A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(2) On the panel 25VU, make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is OFF.
(3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to start the APU.
(4) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).

C. Get Access
(1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below the APU access door 315AL and 316AR.
(2) Open the access doors 315AL and 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
(3) Set the light switch 11LJ to the ON position.
4. Procedure(1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below the APU access door 315AL and 316AR.
(2) Open the access doors 315AL and 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
(3) Set the light switch 11LJ to the ON position.

A. Preliminary Check
(1) Make sure that you did the aircraft external inspection.
(2) Do the pre-conditioning with the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
(3) Make sure that no exhaust gases from the main engines and/or the ground support equipment go into the APU air intake during the pre-conditioning.
(4) Do a check in the cabin for odor/fumes.
(5) Do a check of the APU air intake and the APU inlet plenum looking for de-icing fluid contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 49-00-00-200-804).
Subtask 49-00-00-790-066-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that you did the aircraft external inspection.

C. Oil odor in cabin
(3) Do a check for signs of oil leak at APU lines/tubes and tube fittings:
1 Do a check for the correct TORQUE.
2 Repair and/or replace the tubes, the connectors and the seals as necessary.
(5) Do a check of the APU seals (Ref. AMM TASK 49-13-00-200-802).
(6) Do a check for signs of leak in the upper surface of the air duct/access door 316AR and/or over the access door 315AL.
(a) Air duct/access door 315AL:
1 If you find leakage in the air duct/access door 315AL, on the front area of the APU as the most possible cause of the source of the leakage, follow the paragraph "Leaks on access door 315AL".
2 If you do not find leakage, follow the paragraph "Leaks on access door 316AR".
(b) Access door 316AR:
1 If you find leakage in the access door 316AR, on the rear area of the APU as the most possible cause of the source of the leakage, follow the paragraph "Leaks on access door 316AR".
2 If you do not find leakage, follow the paragraph "Leaks on access door 315AL."
(c) If you do not find leakage in the upper surface of the "Air duct/access door 315AL" and/or over the access door 316AR, follow the paragraphs, "Leaks on access door 315AL" and "Leaks on access door 316AR".
(d) If you do not find leakage at the end of the sequence, follow the paragraph "Last check".
Subtask 49-00-00-790-070-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: After each step, do the cleaning of the APU engine and the APU access doors (Ref. AMM TASK 49-00-00-100-807) when you identify the source of the leakage. If you do not do, the odor can continue.
NOTE: Use a LIGHT SOURCE - ULTRA-VIOLET to identify possible oil leakage.
(1) Do a check for signs of oil leak in the area of the APU plenum. - If the APU plenum is dirty, continue the task to identify the source of the leakage.
- If you find oil in the drain:
(3) Do a check for signs of oil leak at APU lines/tubes and tube fittings:
NOTE: Be careful with the subsequent fittings and lines/tubes:
(a) If there are leaks in the lines or fittings: - Inlet Guide Vane Actuator (IGVA)/Surge Control Valve (SCV) supply and return lines (2) and (3).
- Fuel supply tube (1).
- Fuel Control Unit (FCU) drain tube (8).
- Turbine drain tube (7).
- IGV and SCV drain tubes (9) and (10).
- Fuel supply line and interface to APU FCU.
1 Do a check for the correct TORQUE.
2 Repair and/or replace the tubes, the connectors and the seals as necessary.
NOTE: FCU/lube pump, IGVA and SCV have a same drain port (4). LIGHT SOURCE - ULTRA-VIOLET helps to identify oil (only in FCU/lube pump interface) from fuel (the FCU, IGVA and SCV).
(4) Examine the draining holes for blockage. If necessary, free the blockage (Ref. AMM TASK 49-17-00-200-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-17-00-300-001). (5) Do a check of the APU seals (Ref. AMM TASK 49-13-00-200-802).
(6) Do a check for signs of leak in the upper surface of the air duct/access door 316AR and/or over the access door 315AL.
(a) Air duct/access door 315AL:
1 If you find leakage in the air duct/access door 315AL, on the front area of the APU as the most possible cause of the source of the leakage, follow the paragraph "Leaks on access door 315AL".
2 If you do not find leakage, follow the paragraph "Leaks on access door 316AR".
(b) Access door 316AR:
1 If you find leakage in the access door 316AR, on the rear area of the APU as the most possible cause of the source of the leakage, follow the paragraph "Leaks on access door 316AR".
2 If you do not find leakage, follow the paragraph "Leaks on access door 315AL."
(c) If you do not find leakage in the upper surface of the "Air duct/access door 315AL" and/or over the access door 316AR, follow the paragraphs, "Leaks on access door 315AL" and "Leaks on access door 316AR".
(d) If you do not find leakage at the end of the sequence, follow the paragraph "Last check".
D. Leaks on access door 315AL
(1) Do a check for signs of oil leak around oil filler cap (1) or the oil reservoir pressure servicing-port (4):
(2) Do a check if the oil level in the oil reservoir is above the full mark on the oil sight glass (2).
(b) Remove and clean the air/oil separator (3) and/or replace the packings as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 49-26-54-000-003) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-26-54-400-001).
(3) Do a check for signs of leak around lube module/oil pump assembly (2):
(4) Do a check for signs of fuel leak around the fuel control unit (1):
(5) Do a check for signs of oil leak around the oil level switch (3):
(6) Do a check for signs of oil leak around the de-oil solenoid (5):
(7) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the low oil pressure switch (4):
(8) Do a check for signs of leak around the circumference of generator to gearbox mounting flange (1):
(9) Do a check for signs of oil leak around the generator drain plug (2):
(10) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the flange of the starter motor:
(11) If the oil level in the oil reservoir is not above the full mark on the oil sight glass (3), do a check for signs of leaks in the area of the air/oil separator (4):
(12) Do a check for signs of leaks in the area of the load compressor scroll to gearbox split line:
(b) If the leak continues, replace the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-000-004) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-400-004).
(14) Do a check for signs of oil leaks in the area of lube pump filter (1) and/or the generator scavenge filter (2):
(15) Do a check for signs of leak at the oil sump magnetic drain plug (1):
(16) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the oil sensor temperature (2):
(17) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the oil cooler (1):
(18) Do a check for signs of oil leak in the area of the cooling fan (1):

(b) If the leak continues, replace the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-000-004) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-400-004).
NOTE: APU assembly fluid can be present at the split line area, not to be mistaken with oil leak.
(13) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the access holes in the rear gearbox (1) and front gearbox (2): - If you find leakage:
(14) Do a check for signs of oil leaks in the area of lube pump filter (1) and/or the generator scavenge filter (2):
- If you find leakage:
(15) Do a check for signs of leak at the oil sump magnetic drain plug (1):
- If you find leakage:
(16) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the oil sensor temperature (2):
- If you find leakage:
(17) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the oil cooler (1):
NOTE: Be careful with the oil transfer tube (2) retainers. Bent and/or broken oil transfer tube retainers may cause the tubes to loosen and let oil leak past the o-rings.
- If you find leakage:
(18) Do a check for signs of oil leak in the area of the cooling fan (1):
- If you find leakage:
E. Leaks on access door 316AR
(1) Do a check for signs of oil leak in the area of the gearbox vent tube (1) from the air oil separator (2) to the exhaust (3):
(2) Do a check for signs of oil leak at turbine bearing cavity oil supply (1) and oil scavenge tubes (2) and fitting:
(b) Replace the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-000-004) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-400-004).
(3) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of IGVA:
(4) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the SCV:
Subtask 49-00-00-790-072-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Do a check for signs of oil leak in the area of the gearbox vent tube (1) from the air oil separator (2) to the exhaust (3):
- If you find leakage:
(2) Do a check for signs of oil leak at turbine bearing cavity oil supply (1) and oil scavenge tubes (2) and fitting:
- If you find leakage:
(b) Replace the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-000-004) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-400-004).
(3) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of IGVA:
- If you find leakage:
(4) Do a check for signs of leak in the area of the SCV:
- If you find leakage:
F. Last Check
(1) If you do not find leakage at this point:
(a) Do a check of the gearbox vent tube and the air/oil separator adapter:
1 Remove the air/oil separator adapter and clean it, if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 49-26-54-000-003).
2 Do an inspection of the gearbox vent tube for blockage and clean it, if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 49-26-55-100-801).
3 Install the air/oil separator adapter (Ref. AMM TASK 49-26-54-400-001).
(b) Do a check of the cooling fan and put a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) over the top of the discharge duct and insert it into the cooling fan hood.
a Replace the seals and/or the cooling fan (Ref. AMM TASK 49-52-51-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-52-51-400-002).
(c) Remove the APU bleed-air duct elbow (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-000-004) and the load control valve (Ref. AMM TASK 49-51-51-000-004).
(d) Examine the removed components with the LIGHT SOURCE - ULTRA-VIOLET and with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and make sure that there are not signs of contamination.
2 Clean the load control valve and install it (Ref. AMM TASK 49-51-51-400-004).
3 Do a check of the cooling fan.
4 Do a check of the load-compressor witness drain.
5. Close-up(1) If you do not find leakage at this point:
(a) Do a check of the gearbox vent tube and the air/oil separator adapter:
1 Remove the air/oil separator adapter and clean it, if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 49-26-54-000-003).
2 Do an inspection of the gearbox vent tube for blockage and clean it, if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 49-26-55-100-801).
3 Install the air/oil separator adapter (Ref. AMM TASK 49-26-54-400-001).
(b) Do a check of the cooling fan and put a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) over the top of the discharge duct and insert it into the cooling fan hood.
- If there are signs of contamination:
- If there is oil contamination inside the cooling fan:
a Replace the seals and/or the cooling fan (Ref. AMM TASK 49-52-51-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-52-51-400-002).
(c) Remove the APU bleed-air duct elbow (Ref. AMM TASK 49-11-11-000-004) and the load control valve (Ref. AMM TASK 49-51-51-000-004).
(d) Examine the removed components with the LIGHT SOURCE - ULTRA-VIOLET and with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and make sure that there are not signs of contamination.
- If there are signs of contamination:
2 Clean the load control valve and install it (Ref. AMM TASK 49-51-51-400-004).
3 Do a check of the cooling fan.
4 Do a check of the load-compressor witness drain.
Subtask 49-00-00-410-101-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Set the light switch 11LJ to the OFF position.
(3) Close the APU access doors 315AL and 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
(4) Remove the access platform(s).

(2) Set the light switch 11LJ to the OFF position.
(3) Close the APU access doors 315AL and 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
(4) Remove the access platform(s).
B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):
