3. Job Set-up
Subtask 24-23-51-860-057-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the panel 25VU make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is off.
   (2) Make sure that there is a warning notice in the cockpit to tell persons not to start the APU.
   (3) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
   (4) Make sure that ground fire extinguishing equipment is available.
   (5) Make sure that the access platform is in position below the APU compartment.
   (6) Make sure that the APU access doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
   (7) Make sure that the A1-91-265 HOIST-MINILIFT (33) is installed correctly in the APU generator hoist bracket.
4. Procedure
Subtask 24-23-51-420-055-B
A. Installation of the APU Generator (type 5913667 or type BA03604)
WARNING: OBEY THE HOISTING SAFETY PROCEDURES. MAKE SURE THAT THE HOIST IS ASSEMBLED AND ATTACHED CORRECTLY BEFORE YOU PUT A LOAD ON IT. OBEY THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU USE THE HOIST. IF THE HOIST IS IN AN INCORRECT CONDITION THE LOAD CAN MOVE ACCIDENTALLY AND KILL PERSONS OR CAUSE INJURY.
WARNING: DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE THREADS OF THE SET SCREWS WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE GENERATOR. THE GENERATOR WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 23kg (50.7lb).
   (1) Examine the seal plate (7) and the seals (8) and (11), which are part of the seal plate (7).
   (2) Replace the AIPC 24-23-04-01-040 SEAL PLATE (7) or AIPC 24-23-84-01-040 SEAL PLATE (7) if you find:
  • Breaks and/or scratches on the seal plate (7),
  • Cuts on the seals (8) and/or (11),
  • The height of the seals (8) and/or (11) above the seal plate (7) is less than 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.).
     (a) Remove the countersunk screws (1) and the seal plate (7).
     (b) Lubricate the seals (8) and (11) of the new seal plate (7) with a thin layer of Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.
03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
     (c) Put the seal plate (7) on the flange of the APU generator (4).
     (d) Make sure that the dowel pin (3) engages correctly with the pilot hole (2).
     (e) Lubricate the countersunk screws (1) with Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
     (f) Install the countersunk screws (1) to the generator flange and TORQUE to between 0.47 and 0.43 m.daN (41.6 and 38.1 lbf.in ) T.
   (3) Lubricate the new
AIPC 24-23-51-01-020 O-RING (10) and the new AIPC 24-23-51-01-010 O-RING (9) with a thin layer of Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
   (4) Install the O-ring (10) on the generator splined drive-shaft (6).
   (5) Install the O-ring (9) on the generator mount flange (5).
   (6) Remove the lifting eye (31) from the A1-91-265 HOIST-MINILIFT (33) and install it to the lifting boss of the APU generator (4).
   (7) Make sure that the threads of the lifting eye (31) and the generator lifting boss are in a good condition.
   (8) Lubricate the thread of the lifting eye (31) with Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
   (9) Install the shackle with the quick-release pin (32) to the lifting eye (31).
   (10) Operate the A1-91-265 HOIST-MINILIFT (33) and lift the APU generator (4) in position to the generator mounting flange.
   (11) Lubricate the generator splined drive-shaft (6) with Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
   (12) Install the APU generator (4) in its position and turn it clockwise to engage the slots.
   (13) Make sure that the dowel pin (3) fully engages in the mounting flange of the accessory drive gearbox.
   (14) TORQUE the nuts (15)
   (15) Tighten the nuts (15) behind the generator terminal with the FRDH141 ADAPTER-TORQUE (Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001).
   (16) Clean the nuts (15) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (17) Make a mark on the nuts (15) with Varnish Polyurethane-- Marking Structure (Material No.04SAB2) .
   (18) Install the spacer (27), the clamp (26), the washer (25) and the screw (24).
   (19) TORQUE the screw (24) to between 0.480 and 0.370 m.daN (42.48 and 32.74 lbf.in ) T.
   (20) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (21) Connect the electrical connector (12) to the APU generator (4).
   (22) Make sure that you connect the electrical cable connections correctly to the APU generator terminal.
   (23) Install the washers (23) and the terminal forks (22) on the APU generator (4).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE WASHER IS INSTALLED BETWEEN THE PHASE LEADS AND THE TERMINAL BLOCK. IF NOT, THE TERMINAL BLOCK WILL BURN LOCALLY BECAUSE OF RESISTANCE HEATING.
   (24) Connect the electrical cables (21) as follows:
  • Cable 8XS-T1 to generator terminal T1,
  • Cable 8XS-T2 to generator terminal T2,
  • Cable 8XS-T3 to generator terminal T3, and
  • Cable 8XS- N to generator terminal N.
   (25) If necessary, install the new
AIPC 24-23-51-01-080 NUTS AND CAPTIVE WASHERS (19).
   (26) Install the washers (20) and the nuts and captive washers (19).
   (27) TORQUE the nuts and captive washers (19) to between 2.5 and 2.3 m.daN (18.44 and 16.96 lbf.ft )
T.
   (28) Install the cover plate (18) with the washers (16) and the screws (17).
   (29) TORQUE the screws (17) to between 0.47 and 0.43 m.daN (41.6 and 38.1 lbf.in )
T.
   (30) Install the drain plug (14) with the new
AIPC 24-23-51-01-040 WASHER (13).
NOTE: The drain plug (14) has no inscription on the head.
     (a) TORQUE the drain plug (14) to between 3.25 and 2.95 m.daN (23.97 and 21.76 lbf.ft )

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (b) Safety the drain plug (14):
  • Safety the drain plug (14) with 22swg (0.71 mm (0.028 in) dia) chromium nickel wire.

B. Installation of the APU Generator (type BA16501)
WARNING: OBEY THE HOISTING SAFETY PROCEDURES. MAKE SURE THAT THE HOIST IS ASSEMBLED AND ATTACHED CORRECTLY BEFORE YOU PUT A LOAD ON IT. OBEY THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU USE THE HOIST. IF THE HOIST IS IN AN INCORRECT CONDITION THE LOAD CAN MOVE ACCIDENTALLY AND KILL PERSONS OR CAUSE INJURY.
WARNING: DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE THREADS OF THE SET SCREWS WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE GENERATOR. THE GENERATOR WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 23kg (50.7lb).
   (1) Examine the seal plate (7) and the seals (8) and (11), which are part of the seal plate (7).
   (2) Replace the
AIPC 24-23-04-01-040 SEAL PLATE (7) if you find:
  • Breaks and/or scratches on the seal plate (7),
  • Cuts on the seals (8) and/or (11),
  • The height of the seals (8) and/or (11) above the seal plate (7) is less than 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.).
     (a) Remove the countersunk screws (1) and the seal plate (7).
     (b) Lubricate the seals (8) and (11) of the new seal plate (7) with a thin layer of Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.
03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
     (c) Put the seal plate (7) on the flange of the APU generator (4).
     (d) Make sure that the dowel pin (3) engages correctly with the pilot hole (2).
     (e) Lubricate the countersunk screws (1) with Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
     (f) Install the countersunk screws (1) to the generator flange and TORQUE to between 0.47 and 0.43 m.daN (41.59 and 38.05 lbf.in ) T.
   (3) Lubricate the new
AIPC 24-23-51-01-020 O-RING (10) and the new AIPC 24-23-51-01-010 O-RING (9) with a thin layer of Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
   (4) Install the O-ring (10) on the generator splined drive-shaft (6).
   (5) Install the O-ring (9) on the generator mount flange (5).
   (6) Remove the lifting eye (31) from the A1-91-265 HOIST-MINILIFT (33) and install it to the lifting boss of the APU generator (4).
   (7) Make sure that the threads of the lifting eye (31) and the generator lifting boss are in a good condition.
   (8) Lubricate the thread of the lifting eye (31) with Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
   (9) Install the shackle with the quick-release pin (32) to the lifting eye (31).
   (10) Operate the A1-91-265 HOIST-MINILIFT (33) and lift the APU generator (4) in position to the generator mounting flange.
   (11) Lubricate the generator splined drive-shaft (6) with Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
   (12) Install the APU generator (4) in its position and turn it clockwise to engage the slots.
   (13) Make sure that the dowel pin (3) fully engages in the mounting flange of the accessory drive gearbox.
   (14) TORQUE the nuts (15)
   (15) Tighten the nuts (15) behind the generator terminal with the FRDH141 ADAPTER-TORQUE (Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001).
   (16) Clean the nuts (15) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (17) Make a mark on the nuts (15) with Varnish Polyurethane-- Marking Structure (Material No.04SAB2) .
   (18) Install the spacer (27), the clamp (26), the washer (25) and the screw (24).
   (19) TORQUE the screw (24) to between 0.480 and 0.370 m.daN (42.48 and 32.74 lbf.in ) T.
   (20) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (21) Connect the electrical connector (12) to the APU generator (4).
   (22) Make sure that you connect the electrical cable connections correctly to the APU generator terminal.
   (23) Install the washers (23) and the terminal forks (22) on the APU generator (4).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE WASHER IS INSTALLED BETWEEN THE PHASE LEADS AND THE TERMINAL BLOCK. IF NOT, THE TERMINAL BLOCK WILL BURN LOCALLY BECAUSE OF RESISTANCE HEATING.
   (24) Connect the electrical cables (21) as follows:
  • Cable 8XS-T1 to generator terminal T1,
  • Cable 8XS-T2 to generator terminal T2,
  • Cable 8XS-T3 to generator terminal T3, and
  • Cable 8XS- N to generator terminal N.
   (25) Install the new
AIPC 24-23-51-01-080 NUTS AND CAPTIVE WASHERS (19).
   (26) TORQUE the nuts and captive washers (19) to between 2.5 and 2.3 m.daN (18.44 and 16.96 lbf.ft )
T.
   (27) Install the cover plate (18) with the washers (16) and the screws (17).
   (28) TORQUE the screws (17) to between 0.47 and 0.43 m.daN (41.59 and 38.05 lbf.in )
T.
   (29) Install the drain plug (14) with the new
AIPC 24-23-51-01-040 WASHER (13).
NOTE: The drain plug (14) has the inscription "OIL DRAIN" on the head.
     (a) TORQUE the drain plug (14) to between 0.7 and 0.6 m.daN (61.95 and 53.10 lbf.in )

E. Start and Operate the APU
   (1) Start the APU
   (2) Allows the APU to run 15 minutes.
   (3) Check at 95 % speed of the APU that the generator energizes and begins to indicate voltage and frequency (without the selection of electrical loads).
   (4) An 'AVAIL' message on top of the APU page shows that you can select an electric/pneumatic load.
   (5) Shutdown the APU
   (6) Open the APU access doors (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
   (7) Do a leak check of the APU Oil System.
NOTE: No leaks are permitted.

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the APU access doors 315AL 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
