WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE COMPONENT UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS.
AF. Preparation for the Stage 1 Cleaning of the ECS
   (1) Do one of the steps that follow to remove the clamps and the sleeves between the condenser(s) and the check valve(s):
     (a) If the source of contamination is engine 1:
1 Remove the clamps and the sleeve between condenser 10HM2 and check valve 15HM (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-32-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-43-000-001).
2 Put the special blanking cap on the open end of check valve 15HM.
NOTE: Use the removed clamps to safety the blanking cap.
     (b) If the source of contamination is engine 2:
1 Remove the clamps and the sleeve between condenser 11HM2 and check valve 16HM duct flange (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-32-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-43-000-001).
2 Put the special blanking cap on the open end of check valve 16HM duct flange.
NOTE: Use the removed clamps to safety the blanking cap.
     (c) If the source of contamination is APU or unknown:
1 Remove the clamps and the sleeve between condenser 10HM2 and check valve 15HM (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-32-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-43-000-001).
2 Remove the clamps and the sleeve between condenser 11HM2 and check valve 16HM duct flange (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-32-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-43-000-001).
3 Put the special blanking caps on the open end of check valve 15HM and 16HM duct flange.
NOTE: Use the removed clamps to safety the blanking caps.
   (2) Do a check and make a note of the oil contamination in the condensers.
NOTE: Water condensation can occur in the condensers. This can be ignored.
   (3) If you find the oil contamination in the condensers you must:
     (a) Remove cabin recirculation fans 14HG and 15HG (Ref. AMM TASK 21-21-51-000-001).
     (b) Do a check for the oil contamination in the interior of the mixer unit.
     (c) Cleaning of the mixer unit:
1 If you find oil contamination, you must remove it from the areas that you can get access to with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) .
     (d) Install cabin recirculation fans 14HG and 15HG (Ref. AMM TASK 21-21-51-400-001).
   (4) Disconnect the electrical connectors on cabin temperature sensors 21HK, 22HK and 23HK (Ref. AMM TASK 21-63-17-000-001).
   (5) Install the temperature simulation devices at cabin temperature sensors 21HK, 22HK and 23HK.
   (6) Install 98D21008001000 ROD AIR INLET:
NOTE: This step is not applicable if the rod air-inlet (98D21008001000) is not available.
     (a) Remove the applicable air-inlet flap actuator(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-61-51-000-001):
  • If the source of contamination is engine 1, remove the air-inlet flap actuator (8HH).
  • If the source of contamination is engine 2, remove the air-inlet flap actuator (28HH).
  • If the source of contamination is APU or unknown, remove the air-inlet flap actuators (8HH and 28HH).
NOTE: Keep the parts after the removal of the air-inlet flap actuator(s) for the installation procedure.
     (b) Put 98D21008001000 ROD AIR INLET (4) in position in the bracket (10).
     (c) Install the bolt (11), the washer (3) and the nut (2).
     (d) Torque the nut (2) to between 0.385 and 0.315 m.daN (34.07 and 27.88 lbf.in ) T.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (e) Install the cotter pin (1) and safety it.
     (f) Put the rod eye end in position in the lever (7).
     (g) Install the sleeve (8), bolt (9), washer (6) and nut (5).

     (c) If any of the temperatures go above MAX, you must stop the procedure and do the troubleshooting of the ECS (refer to TSM, chapter 21).
   (8) If you use the engine bleed:
     (a) Move the applicable throttle control lever to the idle position.
   (9) On the ECAM control panel, push the COND pushbutton switch.
   (10) Set the temperature simulating device to the hot condition:
     (a) For temperature simulating device - version 1, adjust the temperature simulating device until on the lower ECAM DU, the CKPT, the FWD cabin and the AFT cabin temperatures show 30 DEG.C (86 DEG.F).
     (b) For temperature simulating device - version 2, push the "HIGH" knob on the temperature simulating device to adjust the cabin temperature to 30 DEG.C (86 DEG.F).
   (11) On AIR COND panel 30VU, turn the COCKPIT, the FWD CABIN and the AFT CABIN temperature selectors to the COLD position.
   (12) If you use the engine bleed:
     (a) Move the applicable throttle control lever forward until the upper ECAM DU shows N1 between 35 and 40 percent (immediately before HPV closure):
1 On the lower ECAM DU, the BLEED page shows:

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT AIR IS NOT SUPPLIED TO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM FROM THE MAIN ENGINE, THE APU OR A GROUND SOURCE. HOT COMPRESSED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE COMPONENT UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS.
   (1) Do a check by hand for the oil contamination in condensers 10HM2 and 11HM2.
   (2) If there is no oil contamination in the condensers then continue with the preparation for and stage 2 cleaning of the ECS.
   (3) If you find the oil contamination in the condensers then you must:
   (4) If you find large deposits of oil contamination in the condensers then you must overhaul or replace the air cycle machine:
     (a) To do an overhaul:
1 Remove the air cycle machine (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-21-000-001).
2 Send the air cycle machine to the workshop for an overhaul.
