4. Procedure
Subtask 71-00-00-860-179-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Procedure
   (1) Move the Engine 1 or Engine 2 thrust lever to IDLE. See the sheet 3 of the figure.
   (2) Operate the engine at MIN IDLE for ten minutes before you do an engine shutdown.
NOTE: You must operate the engine at MIN IDLE for ten minutes before engine shutdown. This time at idle will permit the turbine rotors and cases to decrease in temperature. This procedure will prevent locked turbine rotors and damaged turbine airseals. Also, this cool-down period minimizes the potential for oil coking in the engine main bearing compartments. The MIN IDLE time does not apply to an emergency shutdown procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-815).
   (3) On ENG panel 115VU:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS AN ENGINE SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE MASTER SWITCH IS SET TO OFF. THE SHUTDOWN IS INDICATED WHEN THE FUEL SHUT-OFF VALVE CLOSES. IF THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO OPERATE WHEN YOU SET THE MASTER SWITCH TO OFF, THERE IS A MALFUNCTION AND MAINTENANCE IS MANDATORY BEFORE A SUBSEQUENT ENGINE START.
     (a) Set the ENG/MASTER 1(2) switch to OFF. See the sheet 1 of the figure.
NOTE: This will immediately stop the fuel supply to the engine.
NOTE: After the engine shutdown, the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) is powered by aircraft 28 VDC for 30 minutes to allow for engine parameter interrogation.
   (4) On the engine control panel, located on the upper ECAM display unit, the N1 and N2 will decrease to zero (0RPM).
   (5) Set the EXT LT/BEACON switch to OFF position.
   (6) During cold weather with snow or rain, it will be necessary to install COVER - INLET to prevent ice in the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-660-803).
5. Close-up
Subtask 71-00-00-860-180-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) On HYD/FUEL panel 40VU:
     (a) Release all the FUEL/PUMPS pushbutton switches (the OFF legends of these pushbutton switches come on).
   (2) Do the EIS stop procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-002).
   (3) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
