3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-21-00-860-056-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) In the cockpit, on the right center instrument panel 400VU:
  • Make sure that the landing-gear control-lever 6GA is in the DOWN position.
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing-gear.
   (2) On the panel 110VU, make sure that the GRAVITY GEAR EXT handle is folded into the center console.

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the steering handwheels (CAPT and F/O) and on the brake pedals:
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate them.
   (2) Put SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.
   (3) Make sure that the ground safety locks are on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).

C. Get Access
   (1) Open the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR are in position.
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-21-00-210-052-A
A. General Procedure
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the lubrication points. Make sure that they are clean and serviceable.
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the protective finish on the surface of the NLG and its components for damage.
     (a) If the protective finish or primer layers are damaged, do a repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-00-100-001).
   (3) Make sure that all the components are correctly installed and safetied.
   (4) Make sure that all safety devices (cotter pins, tab washers and lockwire) are correctly installed.
   (5) Make sure that the hinge pins and the hinges are correctly installed and serviceable and that there are no signs of unusual wear.
   (6) Make sure that all the identification plates and labels are correctly installed and show the correct data.
   (7) Do a visual inspection of the bonding straps and make sure that they are correctly installed and serviceable.

B. Inspection of the NLG Uplock Assembly
   (1) Do a visual inspection for signs of shock damage to:
  • The hook of the uplock assembly
  • The uplock roller on the drag strut.
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the uplock manual-release control-links and cables in the NLG well. Make sure that they are correctly installed and serviceable (Ref. AMM TASK 20-24-12-200-001).
   (3) Do a visual inspection of the uplock assembly. Make sure that it is correctly installed and that there is no structural damage.
     (a) If you find damage, remove the uplock for inspection/repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-21-000-001) and install a serviceable component (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-21-400-001).

C. Inspection of the NLG Drag Strut and Lockstay Assemblies
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the safety devices. Make sure that they are correctly installed and in good condition.
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the drag strut to make sure that it is correctly installed and serviceable. Examine for corrosion, cracks, dents, distortion and wear.
     (a) If you find damage, remove the drag strut for inspection/repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-16-000-002) and install a serviceable component (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-16-400-002).
   (3) Do a visual inspection of the lockstay to make sure that it is correctly installed and serviceable. Examine for corrosion, cracks, dents, distortion and wear.
     (a) If you find damage, remove the lockstay for inspection/repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-17-000-001) and install a serviceable component (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-17-400-001).
   (4) Do a visual inspection of the protective finish for damage and if necessary, clean and repair it (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-00-100-001).

D. Inspection of the NLG Downlock Release Actuator
   (1) Make sure that the downlock release actuator is correctly installed and safetied.
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the downlock release actuator for cracks, dents, distortion and wear.
   (3) Make sure that all the components are correctly installed.
   (4) Make sure that the spherical bearings at each end of the actuator do not show signs of migration.
   (5) Make sure that there are no signs of hydraulic leak from the actuator and hoses.
   (6) Do a visual inspection of the chrome plating on the lockstay actuator rod for wear, scores and damage.
     (a) If you find damage, remove the lockstay actuator for inspection/repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-23-000-001) and install a serviceable component (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-23-400-001).

E. Inspection of the NLG Leg Assembly
   (1) Make sure that the NLG leg is correctly installed to the airframe structure.
   (2) Make sure that all the safety devices are correctly installed and serviceable.
   (3) Do a visual inspection of the NLG leg for:
  • Corrosion
  • Cracks
  • Dents
  • Distortion
  • Wear.
   (4) Examine the chrome plating of the shock absorber for scores, wear and damage.
   (5) Make sure that there is no hydraulic leakage from the gland seal.
   (6) If you find damage, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Remove the NLG leg assembly for inspection and repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-11-000-003).
     (b) Install the serviceable NLG leg assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-11-400-003).
   (7) Do a visual inspection of the drain hole at the bottom of the turning tube below the upper torque link.
     (a) Make sure that there is no hydraulic fluid leakage and the drain hole is clear and dry.
   (8) Do a check of the NLG shock-absorber fluid-level and charge pressure (two-point check method) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-32-610-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-32-610-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-32-610-002) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-32-610-002).
     (a) If necessary, remove the NLG shock absorber for inspection and repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-13-000-001).
     (b) Install the serviceable NLG shock absorber (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-13-400-001).
   (9) Do a visual inspection of the torque link assembly.
     (a) Make sure that it is correctly installed and there is no damage or wear.
       1 If you find damage, do the steps that follow:
         a Remove the torque link assembly for inspection and repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-27-000-001).
         b Install the serviceable torque link assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-27-400-001).
   (10) Do a visual inspection of the NLG hydraulic hoses and rigid hydraulic pipes.
     (a) Make sure that hydraulic hoses and rigid hydraulic pipes are correctly installed and attached with clamps.
   (11) Do a visual inspection of the hydraulic hoses and pipes for:
  • Distortion
  • Cracks
  • Signs of fretting because of vibration and/or pressure surges.
     (a) Make sure that:
  • All the hoses are installed in their correct location and are not twisted.
  • There are no signs of hydraulic leakage from the unions.
  • All the brackets, line support blocks and clamps are correctly installed and safetied.
  • The clearance between all the hydraulic pipelines and their related structure is correct.
   (12) Do a visual inspection of the NLG electrical conduits, connectors and protective coverings.
     (a) Make sure that:
  • All the electrical conduits, connectors and protective coatings are in good condition.
  • All the electrical connections and connectors are correctly installed and safetied.
  • There is no fluid contamination. If necessary, clean the dirty area.
   (13) Do a visual inspection of the protective finish for damage.
     (a) If necessary, clean and repair the protective finish (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-00-100-001).

F. Inspection of Hydraulic Equipment and Electrical Conduits in the NLG Compartment
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the hydraulic equipment:
     (a) Make sure that:
  • All the components are correctly installed and safetied.
  • All the electrical connectors and receptacles are correctly installed and safetied.
  • There are no signs of hydraulic leakage.
     (b) Do a visual inspection of the NLG vent valve for signs of wear and damage.
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the hydraulic hoses and rigid hydraulic pipes. Make sure that:
  • Hydraulic hoses and rigid hydraulic pipes are correctly installed and attached with clamps.
   (3) Do a visual inspection of the hydraulic hoses and pipes for distortion, cracks, damage and signs of fretting caused by vibration and/or pressure surges.
     (a) Make sure that:
  • All the hoses are installed in their correct location and are not twisted.
  • There are no signs of hydraulic leakage from the unions.
  • All the brackets, line support blocks and clamps are correctly installed and safetied.
  • The clearance between all hydraulic pipelines and their related structure is correct.
   (4) Do a visual inspection of the electrical conduits, connectors and protective coverings.
     (a) Make sure that:
  • All the electrical conduits, connectors and protective coatings are in good condition.
  • All the electrical connections and connectors are correctly installed and safetied.
  • There is no fluid contamination. If necessary, clean the contaminated area.

G. Inspection of the NLG Actuator
   (1) Make sure that the NLG actuating cylinder is correctly installed and safetied.
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the actuator for cracks, dents, distortion and wear.
   (3) Make sure that all the components are correctly installed.
   (4) Make sure that the spherical bearing of the actuator rod end does not show signs of migration.
   (5) Make sure that there are no hydraulic leakage from the actuator and hoses.
   (6) Do a general visual inspection of the chrome plating on the actuator rod for wear, scores and damage.
   (7) If you find damage, remove the NLG actuating cylinder for inspection/repair (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-22-000-001) and install a serviceable component (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-22-400-001).

A. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
Subtask 32-21-00-410-053-A
B. Close Access
   (1) Close the main doors of the nose gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-410-001).
