Removal of the Torque Link Assy


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-21-27-941-050-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) In the cockpit, on the panel 400VU, put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
   (2) On the steering handwheels (CAPT and F/O) and on the brake pedals put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate them.
   (3) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the panel 110VU, make sure that the PARK BRK control switch is in the OFF position.
   (2) Make sure that the wheel chocks are in position.
   (3) Lift the aircraft at the forward jacking point (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-003).
   (4) Remove the nose wheel which prevents the removal of the pin of the lower arm (Ref. AMM TASK 32-41-12-000-001) (not necessary for Upper Arm Removal).
   (5) Remove the protective sealants with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC to prevent damage to the surfaces of the components.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-21-27-020-055-F
A. Removal of the Torque Link Assy
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (1) Disconnect the center hinge (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-27-000-002).
   (2) Remove the plug (155) or (158 as follows:
F Bulkhead Union ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F Plug ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Remove the sealant around the sliding rod of the plug (155) or (158).
     (b) If the self-locking nut (153) is installed, remove it.
     (c) If the nut (153) and cotter pin (154) are installed, remove them and discard the cotter pin (154).
     (d) Remove the washer (152).
     (e) Remove the bolt (157) and the washer (156).
     (f) Remove the plug (155) or (158).
   (3) Remove the lower arm (150), as follows:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (29).
     (b) Remove the nut (30) and the support (28).
     (c) Remove the screw (22) with the DRIFT - METAL, SOFT.
     (d) Remove the lower shaft (31) with the J47563 EXTRACTOR.
     (e) Remove the lower arm (150) of the torque links and the washers (20) and (21).
     (f) Remove the nuts (23), washers (24), bolts (27) and washers (26).
     (g) Remove the stop (25).
   (4) Remove the target support as follows:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (140).
     (b) Remove the nut (139), washer (138) and screw (136).
     (c) Disconnect the rod (135) from the support (137).
     (d) Remove the nut (130) and the washer (131).
     (e) Hold the casing (134) in position.
     (f) Unlock the tabs of the lockwasher (132) and remove the screw (133) and the spacers (159).
     (g) Remove the screw (133).
     (h) Remove the lockwasher (132) and discard it.
     (i) Release and remove the screw (141).
     (j) Lift the casing (134) and disengage it from the screw (143).
     (k) Remove the casing (134).
   (5) Remove the upper arm (151) as follows:
     (a) Release and remove the nut (71).
     (b) Remove the washer (72).
     (c) Remove the screw (74) with the DRIFT - METAL, SOFT.
     (d) Remove the upper shaft (73) with the J47563 EXTRACTOR.
     (e) Remove the washers (69) and (70).
     (f) Remove the upper arm (151) from the torque links.
     (g) Retain the support assy as follows:
       1 Remove and discard the cotter pins (67).
       2 Remove the nuts (68) and the washers (66).
       3 Remove the screws (62), washers (63) and stop (64).
       4 Remove the screw (60) and the washer (61).
       5 Remove the support (65).
   (6) To remove only the lower arm (150):
  • Do Steps A.(1) thru A.(3).
   (7) To remove only the upper arm (151):
  • Do Steps A.(1), A.(4) and A.(5).
