Removal of the NLG Shock Absorber Assy


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE CONTROLS AGREE WITH THE POSITION OF THE ITEMS THEY OPERATE BEFORE YOU PRESSURIZE A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED ITEMS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-21-13-941-050-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) In the cockpit, on the panel 400VU put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
   (2) On the steering handwheel (CAPT and F/O) and on the brake pedals, put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate them .
   (3) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Lift the aircraft with jacks until the wheels are off the ground (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).

   (1) Open the doors of the nose landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position in zone 123.

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-21-13-020-051-A
A. Preparation before Removal
   (1) Remove the wheels of the nose landing gear. (Ref. AMM TASK 32-41-12-000-001)
   (2) Remove the towing fitting (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-41-000-001).
Subtask 32-21-13-020-052-N ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Removal of the NLG Shock-Absorber Assembly
   (1) Lightly loosen the valve (1) and let the nitrogen go out of the shock absorber (10).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (2) Remove and discard the cotter pin (22) and remove the nut (23) and the bolt (20).
   (3) Use a DRIFT - PLASTIC to remove the bolt (20).
   (4) Remove the support (21).
   (5) Disconnect the center hinge (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-27-000-002).
   (6) Remove the nuts (62), bolts (66) and washers (63) and (65).
   (7) Remove the stop (64).
   (8) Lift the aircraft with jacks to get a clearance of more than 1.50 m (4.92 ft.) between the bottom of the shock absorber and the ground (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).
   (9) Install the TROLLEY - LIFTING and attach the shock absorber (10).
   (10) Open the valve (1) and fully compress the shock absorber (10).
   (11) Remove the bolt (2) and the washer (3).
   (12) Removal of the lockwire
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Cut and discard the lockwire between the valve (1) and the stop plate (4).
   (13) Remove the stop plate (4) and remove the valve (1).
   (14) Remove and discard the packing (5).
   (15) Remove the nut (6) with the J47564 ADAPTOR.
   (16) Slowly remove the shock absorber (10). Make sure that you do not hit the inner part of the shock strut (7) with the sliding tube.
   (17) Remove the shock absorber (10).

B. Removal of the NLG Shock Absorber Assy
   (1) Lightly loosen the valve (1) to bleed the nitrogen from the NLG shock absorber (10).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (2) Remove and discard the cotter pin (22) and remove the nut (23) and the bolt (20).
     (a) Use a DRIFT - PLASTIC to remove the bolt (20).
   (3) Remove the support (21).
   (4) Disconnect the torque-link center hinge (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-27-000-002).
   (5) Remove the nuts (63), the bolts (67) and the washers (64) and (66).
   (6) Remove the stop (65).
   (7) Lift the aircraft with jacks to get a clearance of more than 1.50 m (4.92 ft.) between the bottom of the shock absorber and the ground (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).
   (8) Install the TROLLEY - LIFTING and attach the NLG shock absorber (11).
   (9) Open the valve (1) and fully compress the NLG shock absorber (11).
   (10) Remove the bolt (2) and the washer (3).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (11) Cut, remove and discard the lockwire from the valve (1) and the stop plate (4).
   (12) Remove the stop plate (4) and the valve (1).
   (13) Remove the nut (6) with the J47564 ADAPTOR.
   (14) Slowly remove the NLG shock absorber (10). Make sure that you do not hit the inner part of the shock strut (7) with the sliding tube.
   (15) Remove the NLG shock absorber (10).

B. Removal of the NLG Shock Absorber Assembly
   (1) Lightly loosen the valve (1) and let the nitrogen go out of the shock absorber (11).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (2) Remove and discard the cotter pin (22) and remove the nut (23).
   (3) Use the DRIFT - PLASTIC to remove the bolt (20).
   (4) Remove the support (21).
   (5) Disconnect the center hinge (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-27-000-002).
   (6) Remove the nuts (62), the bolts (66) and the washers (63) and (65).
   (7) Remove the stop (64).
   (8) Lift the aircraft with jacks so as to get a clearance higher than 1.50 m (4.92 ft.) between the bottom of the shock absorber and the ground (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).
   (9) Install the TROLLEY - LIFTING and attach the shock absorber (11).
   (10) Open the valve (1) and fully compress the shock absorber (11).
   (11) Fold back the tabs of the lockwasher (3) and remove the bolt (2).
   (12) Remove the stop plates (4) and (5), then remove the valve (1).
   (13) Remove the nut (7) with the J47564 ADAPTOR.
   (14) Slowly remove the shock absorber (11). Be careful not to hit the inner part of the shock strut (8) with the sliding tube.
   (15) Remove the shock absorber (11).
