LUBRICATION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-21-16-860-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Green hydraulic system is depressurized and put it in the maintenance configuration.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001)
   (2) Make sure that the reservoir of the Green hydraulic system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) Make sure that the aircraft is lifted (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-003).
   (4) In the cockpit, on the panel 400VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
   (5) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Green hydraulic system:
  • on the panel 40VU in the cockpit,
  • on the ground service panel of the Green hydraulic system, access door (197CB).
   (6) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (7) Make sure that the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) is in position below the NLG door actuating cylinder (2531GM).
   (8) Make sure that the doors of the nose landing gear are open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
   (9) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position in zone 123.
   (10) Make sure that you obeyed the flight configuration precautions (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001).
Subtask 32-21-16-860-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized and put it in the maintenance configuration.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001)
   (2) Make sure that the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) Make sure that the aircraft is lifted (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-003).
   (4) In the cockpit, on the panel 400VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
   (5) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Yellow hydraulic system:
  • on the panel 40VU in the cockpit,
  • on the ground service panel of the Yellow hydraulic system, access door (196BB).
   (6) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (7) Make sure that the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) is in position below the NLG door actuating cylinder (2531GM).
   (8) Make sure that the doors of the nose landing gear are open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
   (9) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position in zone 123.
   (10) Make sure that you obeyed the flight configuration precautions (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001).

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-21-16-110-052-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the removed parts with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry them with filtered compressed air.
   (2) Apply a light coat of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of all the nuts, screws, bolts and pins.
   (3) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the bushes (10) and the bolts (13) but not on the threads.
   (4) Apply a thin layer Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) to the pins and the washers.
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
Subtask 32-21-16-420-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the NLG Drag-Strut Assy
   (1) Install the M21931 HOISTING DEVICE on the drag strut (7).
   (2) Install the drag strut as follows:
     (a) Install the drag strut (forestay) (7) between the two spherical bearings with the HOIST 500 KG (1100 LB) and the attach bar of the 98D32203500000 TOOL-R I NLG.
NOTE: It is recommended to assemble the drag strut with the identification plate (and associated boss) in the direction of the ground to see the identification plate more easily.
     (b) Engage the trunnion pins (15) (but not fully) in the spherical bearings and put the drag strut (forestay) against one of the bearings.
     (c) On the opposite side, measure the clearance between the spherical bearing and the drag strut (forestay) (7).
     (d) Make a selection of two washers from the list that follows to get a clearance of between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.):
     (e) Remove the trunnion pins (15).
     (f) Install the lubrication inserts (11) with the new
AIPC 32-21-16-02-060 PACKINGS (12) and the bushes (10) in the trunnion pins (15).
       1 Install new packings (12) after each removal of the trunnion pins (15).
     (g) Put one of the washers (21), (22), (23) or (24) on each side of the drag strut (forestay) (7).
     (h) Install the trunnion pins (15) assembled with the lubrication inserts (11) and the bushes (10).
NOTE: The two rigging bores must be in the horizontal position.
     (i) Make sure that the grease nipples of the lubrication insert (11) point up.
     (j) Align the rigging bores of the trunnion pins (15) and the drag strut (forestay) (7).
     (k) Install the bolts (13), the washers (16) and the nuts (17).
     (l) TORQUE the nuts (17) to between 3 and 2.5 m.daN (22.12 and 18.44 lbf.ft )
T and safety with the AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PINS (18).
NOTE: The bolt (13) heads must point to the rear of the aircraft.
     (m) Align the rigging bores of the nose landing gear leg and the drag strut (7) and install the pin (1) with the
J47554 GUIDE CONE.
     (n) Remove the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
     (o) Install the ring (5), align the rigging bores with the pin (1).
     (p) Install the bolt (6), the washer (2) and the nut (3).
     (q) TORQUE the nut (3) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft ) T and safety with the new AIPC 32-21-11-42-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-62-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-82-050 COTTER PIN (4).
   (3) Install the lockstay assy (
Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-17-400-001).
Subtask 32-21-16-420-052-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the NLG Drag-Strut Assy
   (1) Install the M21931 HOISTING DEVICE on the drag strut (7).
   (2) Install the drag strut as follows:
     (a) Install the drag strut (forestay) (7) between the two spherical bearings with the HOIST 500 KG (1100 LB) and the attach bar of the 98D32203500000 TOOL-R I NLG.
NOTE: It is recommended to assemble the drag strut with the identification plate (and associated boss) in the direction of the ground to see the identification plate more easily.
     (b) Engage the trunnion pins (15) (but not fully) in the spherical bearings and put the drag strut (forestay) against one of the bearings.
     (c) On the opposite side, measure the clearance between the spherical bearing and the drag strut (forestay) (7).
     (d) Make a selection of two washers from the list that follows to get a clearance of between 0.2 mm (0.0078 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.02 in.):
     (e) Remove the trunnion pins (15). Install the lubrication inserts (11) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-060 PACKINGS (12) and the bushes (10) in the trunnion pins (15).
       1 Install new packings (12) after each removal of the trunnion pins (15).
     (f) Put one of the washers (21), (22), (23) or (24) on each side of the drag strut (forestay) (7). Install the trunnion pins (15) assembled with the lubrication inserts (11) and the bushes (10).
NOTE: The two rigging bores must be in the horizontal position.
     (g) Make sure that the grease nipples of the lubrication insert (11) point up.
     (h) Align the rigging bores of the trunnion pins (15) and the drag strut (forestay) (7).
     (i) Install the bolts (13), the washers (16) and the nuts (17). TORQUE the nuts (17) to between 3 and 2.5 m.daN (22.12 and 18.44 lbf.ft )
T and safety with the AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PINS (18).
NOTE: The bolt (13) heads must point to the rear of the aircraft.
     (j) Align the rigging bores of the nose landing gear leg and the drag strut (7) and install the pin (1) with the
J47554 GUIDE CONE.
     (k) Remove the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
     (l) Install the ring (5), align the rigging bores with the pin (1).
     (m) Install the bolt (6), the washer (2) and the nut (3).
     (n) TORQUE the nut (3) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft ) T and safety with the new AIPC 32-21-11-42-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-22-050 COTTER PIN (4).
   (3) Install the lockstay assy (
Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-17-400-001).
Subtask 32-21-16-820-055-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Adjustment of the Attachment Roller Positions
   (1) Make sure that the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR and the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the fork end (39) is in the correct position and that the screw (36) is lightly tightened.
NOTE: Dimension K measured during the AMM removal task will help you adjust dimension K of the new forestay assembly.
   (3) Retract the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-001).
   (4) On the left side, remove the cotter pins (60) and (68), nuts (61) and (67) and washers (62) and (66).
   (5) Remove the bolts (71) and (64) and the rod (63).
   (6) Remove the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR from the left door (69). Close the left door (69) manually and put it against the front stop (70).
   (7) Measure clearance J3 and record it.
F Functional gaps ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (8) Release the left door (69) and install the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR.
   (9) Measure clearance J4 and record it.
   (10) Measure clearance J1 and record it.
   (11) Measure clearance J2 and record it.
   (12) Extend the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-002).
     (a) Record the location of the support (47) on the forestay.
   (13) Remove the cotter pin (29), nut (30), washer (31), pin (38), washer (37), roller (33) and washers (32).
   (14) If necessary:
  • Cut and discard the lockwire from the screw (36).
  • Release the tabs of the lock plate (35).
   (15) Remove the screw (36), lock plate (35) and washer (34). Remove the fork end (39) and the serrated plate (40).
   (16) Make a selection between AIPC 32-21-16-03-170 SHIM (41), AIPC 32-21-16-03-180 SHIM (42), AIPC 32-21-16-03-190 SHIM (43), AIPC 32-21-16-03-200 SHIM (44), AIPC 32-21-16-03-210 SHIM (45), AIPC 32-21-16-03-220 SHIM (46) to adjust clearance K and get the minimum clearances J3 = 20 mm (0.79 in.) and J4 = 74 mm (2.91 in.).
   (17) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.
06LDG2) on the shims that you selected and install them on the support (47).
   (18) Make sure that the stud (48) is installed.
   (19) Install the serrated plate (40) on the fork end (39).
   (20) Install the fork end (39) and the serrated plate (40) on the shim (41).
   (21) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) on the thread and smooth parts of the shank of the screw (36).
   (22) Install the washer (34), the new AIPC 32-21-16-03-120 LOCK PLATE (35) and the screw (36).
   (23) Adjust clearances J1 and J2.
     (a) Move the support (47) on the drag strut assembly to get the correct the adjustment.
   (24) TORQUE the screw (36) to between 3.9 and 3.3 m.daN (28.76 and 24.34 lbf.ft )
T.
   (25) Install the pin (38), washers (37) and (32) and roller (33).
   (26) Install the washer (31) and the nut (30).
   (27) TORQUE the nut (30) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft )
T.
   (28) Retract the landing gear (
Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-001).
   (29) Measure clearances J1, J2, J3 and J4 and make sure that they are in the limits.
   (30) If the clearances are not in the limits, do the adjustment again.
   (31) Extend the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-002).
   (32) Safety the screw (36) with the tabs of the lock plate (35) and with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (33) Safety the nut (30) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-03-010 COTTER PIN (29).
   (34) Install the rod (63), bolt (71), washer (62) and nut (61).
   (35) Make sure that the bush (72) is installed.
   (36) TORQUE the nut (61) to between 0.61 and 0.6 m.daN (53.98 and 53.10 lbf.in )
T and safety it with the new AIPC 32-31-01-12-010 COTTER PIN (60).
   (37) Install the rod (63), bolt (64), washer (66) and nut (67).
   (38) Make sure that the bush (65) is installed.
   (39) TORQUE the nut (67) to between 0.61 and 0.6 m.daN (53.98 and 53.10 lbf.in )
T and safety it with the new AIPC 32-22-11-01-180 COTTER PIN (68).
   (40) Apply the sealant.
     (a) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.
06ABF1) in zones E.
Subtask 32-21-16-820-055-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Adjustment of the Attachment Roller Positions
   (1) Make sure that the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR and the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the fork end (39) is in the correct position and that the screw (36) is lightly tightened.
   (3) Retract the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-001).
   (4) On the left side, remove the cotter pins (60) and (68), nuts (61) and (67) and washers (62) and (66).
   (5) Remove the bolts (71) and (64) and the rod (63).
   (6) Remove the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR from the left door (69). Close the left door (69) manually and put it against the front stop (70).
   (7) Measure clearance J3 and record it.
F Functional gaps ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (8) Release the left door (69) and install the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR.
   (9) Measure clearance J4 and record it.
   (10) Measure clearance J1 and record it.
   (11) Measure clearance J2 and record it.
   (12) Extend the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-002).
     (a) Record the location of the support (47) on the forestay.
   (13) Remove the cotter pin (29), nut (30), washer (31), pin (38), washer (37), roller (33) and washers (32).
   (14) If necessary:
  • Cut and discard the lockwire from the screw (36).
  • Release the tabs of the lock plate (35).
   (15) Remove the screw (36), lock plate (35) and washer (34). Remove the fork end (39) and the serrated plate (40).
   (16) Make a selection between AIPC 32-21-16-03-170 SHIM (41), AIPC 32-21-16-03-180 SHIM (42), AIPC 32-21-16-03-190 SHIM (43), AIPC 32-21-16-03-200 SHIM (44), AIPC 32-21-16-03-210 SHIM (45), AIPC 32-21-16-03-220 SHIM (46) to adjust clearance K and get the minimum clearances J3 = 20 mm (0.79 in.) and J4 = 74 mm (2.91 in.).
   (17) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.
06LDG2) on the shims that you selected and install them on the support (47).
   (18) Make sure that the stud (48) is installed.
   (19) Install the serrated plate (40) on the fork end (39).
   (20) Install the fork end (39) and the serrated plate (40) on the shim (41).
   (21) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the thread and smooth parts of the shank of the screw (36).
   (22) Install the washer (34), the new AIPC 32-21-16-03-120 LOCK PLATE (35) and the screw (36).
   (23) Adjust clearances J1 and J2.
     (a) Move the support (47) on the drag strut assembly to get the correct adjustment.
   (24) TORQUE the screw (36) to between 3.9 and 3.3 m.daN (28.76 and 24.34 lbf.ft )
T.
   (25) Install the pin (38), washers (37) and (32) and roller (33).
   (26) Install the washer (31) and the nut (30).
   (27) TORQUE the nut (30) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft )
T.
   (28) Retract the landing gear (
Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-001).
   (29) Measure clearances J1, J2, J3 and J4 and make sure that they are in the limits.
   (30) If the clearances are not in the limits, do the adjustment again.
   (31) Extend the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-002).
   (32) Safety the screw (36) with the tabs of the lock plate (35) and with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (33) Safety the nut (30) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-03-010 COTTER PIN (29).
   (34) Install the rod (63), bolt (71), washer (62) and nut (61).
   (35) Make sure that the bush (72) is installed.
   (36) Apply a thin layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.
06ABA1) to the threads and the head of the bolt.
   (37) TORQUE the nut (61) to between 0.61 and 0.6 m.daN (53.98 and 53.10 lbf.in ) T and safety it with the new AIPC 32-31-01-12-010 COTTER PIN (60) or the AIPC 32-31-81-12-010 COTTER PIN (60).
   (38) Install the rod (63), bolt (64), washer (66) and nut (67).
   (39) Make sure that the bush (65) is installed.
