LUBRICATION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-31-22-860-051-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ground service network is energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (2) Make sure that the Green hydraulic system is depressurized and put it in the maintenance configuration.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001)
   (3) Make sure that the reservoir of the Green hydraulic system is depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001)
   (4) Make sure that the NLG doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
   (5) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position below the zone 123.
   (6) Make sure that the container is in position below the NLG actuator in zone 123.
   (7) On the panel 400VU:
  • make sure that the landing-gear control lever is in the DOWN position
  • make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate this lever.
   (8) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Green hydraulic system:
  • on the panel 40VU in the cockpit,
  • on the ground service panel of the Green hydraulic system, access door 197CB.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-31-22-640-050-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the actuating cylinder (8) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry it with filtered compressed air.
   (2) Do a check of the lower attachment of the NLG main fitting to the retraction actuator bush (25).
     (a) Make sure that the bush (25) is correctly installed and that the rubber sealant (24) is not damaged and has no crack.
       1 If the sealant is damaged or if the bush (25) is moved, do the steps that follow:
         a Remove the sealant.
         b Clean the parts with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry it with AIR SOURCE FILTERED, DRY.
         c Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) (24), as shown in section A-A.
NOTE: The movement of the bush can cause cracks on the rubber sealant, but this has no effect on the operation of the actuating cylinder (8). Sealant will prevent moisture and corrosion in the area.
   (3) Apply a light coat of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the spherical ends.
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (4) Apply a light coat of Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluid-General Power - - (Material No.02ABA1) on the rod of the actuating cylinder (8).
   (5) Apply a light coat of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the end of the airframe attachment pin (10) and on the sleeve (9).
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (6) Clean the attachment hardware with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry them with filtered compressed air.
   (7) Apply a thin layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Material No.12ACB1) to the:
  • Nuts (1) and (4)
  • Sleeve (9)
  • Airframe attachment pin (10).
   (8) Apply a thin layer of Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) to the nut (13) and the screw (19).
Subtask 32-31-22-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the NLG Actuating Cylinder
   (1) Set the actuating cylinder (8) on its upper link (7) with the 98D32203501000 GUIDE CONE - NLG.
   (2) Install the sleeve (9), washers (6), new AIPC 32-31-01-06-050 LOCKWASHER (5) and nut (4) on the upper link (7).
   (3) TORQUE the nut (4) to between 5.25 and 4.75 m.daN (38.72 and 35.03 lbf.ft )
T with 98D32303000000 ADAPTER-WRENCH KIT and safety it with the lockwasher (5).
   (4) Install the airframe attachment pin (10) and set the grease nipple up.
   (5) Install the washer (3), the new AIPC 32-31-01-06-020 LOCKWASHER (2) and the nut (1).
   (6) TORQUE the nut (1) to between 0.55 and 0.45 m.daN (48.67 and 39.82 lbf.in )
T with 98AMS172321003 ADAPTER-WRENCH or 98AMS172321002 ADAPTER-WRENCH and safety it with the lockwasher (2).
   (7) Engage the spherical end (12) of the actuating cylinder (8) on the hollow pin (11) with the J47557 GUIDE CONE.
   (8) Install the stop ring (17), the bushing (16), the screw (19) and the washers(18) and (15).
   (9) Install and TORQUE the nut (13) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft ) T.
   (10) Safety the nut (13) with the new
AIPC 32-21-11-41-010 COTTER PIN (14) or AIPC 32-21-11-61-010 COTTER PIN (14) or AIPC 32-21-11-81-010 COTTER PIN (14).
   (11) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
   (12) Connect the hydraulic lines (20) and (21) to the elbows (23) and (22).
   (13) TORQUE the union nuts of the hydraulic lines (20) and (21) to between 2.76 and 2.43 m.daN (20.35 and 17.92 lbf.ft )
T.
   (14) Lubricate the spherical ends of the actuating cylinder (8) (
Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-002).
Subtask 32-31-22-420-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the NLG Actuating Cylinder
   (1) Set the actuating cylinder (8) on its upper link (7) with the 98D32203501000 GUIDE CONE - NLG.
   (2) Install the sleeve (9), washers (6), new AIPC 32-31-01-06-050 LOCKWASHER (5) or AIPC 32-31-81-06-050 LOCKWASHER (5) and nut (4) on the upper link (7).
   (3) TORQUE the nut (4) to between 5.25 and 4.75 m.daN (38.72 and 35.03 lbf.ft )
T with 98D32303000000 ADAPTER-WRENCH KIT and safety it with the lockwasher (5).
   (4) Install the airframe attachment pin (10) and set the grease nipple up.
   (5) Install the washer (3), the new AIPC 32-31-01-06-020 LOCKWASHER (2) or AIPC 32-31-81-06-020 LOCKWASHER (2) and the nut (1).
   (6) TORQUE the nut (1) to between 0.55 and 0.45 m.daN (48.67 and 39.82 lbf.in )
T with 98AMS172321003 ADAPTER-WRENCH or 98AMS172321002 ADAPTER-WRENCH and safety it with the lockwasher (2).
   (7) Engage the spherical end (12) of the actuating cylinder (8) on the hollow pin (11) with the J47557 GUIDE CONE.
   (8) Install the stop ring (17), the bushing (16), the screw (19) and the washers(18) and (15).
   (9) Install and TORQUE the nut (13) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft ) T.
   (10) Safety the nut (13) with the new
AIPC 32-21-11-41-010 COTTER PIN (14) or AIPC 32-21-11-21-010 COTTER PIN (14).
   (11) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
   (12) Connect the hydraulic lines (20) and (21) to the elbows (23) and (22).
   (13) TORQUE the union nuts of the hydraulic lines (20) and (21) to between 2.76 and 2.43 m.daN (20.35 and 17.92 lbf.ft )
T.
   (14) Lubricate the spherical ends of the actuating cylinder (8) (
Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-002).

C. Preparation for Test
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the container below the actuating cylinder.
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Close the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-410-001).
Subtask 32-31-22-720-050-A
D. Functional Test
   (1) Do the functional test of the NLG normal extension and retraction (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-00-720-003) or (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-00-720-002).
     (a) Do five full retraction/extension cycles of the NLG as slowly as possible to bleed the hydraulic system.
   (2) Open the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position below the actuating cylinder (2527GM) in zone 123.
   (4) Make sure that there is no hydraulic fluid leakage from the actuating cylinder (2527GM).
   (5) If necessary, fill the reservoir of the Green hydraulic system to the correct level (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-29-611-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-29-611-002).
   (6) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.06AAC5) to the head of the screw (19) and the nut (13).
5. Close-up

A. De-energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-862-001).
Subtask 32-31-22-410-050-A
B. Close Access
   (1) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Close the doors of the nose gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-410-001).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
