Subtask 32-21-00-110-050-A
A. Cleaning of the Nose Landing Gear
CAUTION: DO NOT USE HIGH-PRESSURE SPRAYING EQUIPMENT TO CLEAN THE LANDING GEAR AND THE LANDING GEAR BAYS. IF YOU USE HIGH-PRESSURE EQUIPMENT, THIS CAN CAUSE WATER TO GO INTO ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT.
   (1) If there is some mud, remove it:
  • Use water to make it become soft
  • Remove it with a wooden or plastic scraper and a sponge soaked in water.
   (2) Dry the areas where you removed the mud.
   (3) Clean the landing gear assembly with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) . Start at the top.
NOTE: Make sure that the solvent does not go into the components (e.g. the sliding tube). Do not let solvents go on the protective covers or on the electrical wires and the connectors. (e.g. the proximity detectors).
You can clean with a sponge, a cloth, a brush or a low-pressure spray-gun.
   (4) Dry with compressed air if it is available, or use dry cloths.
   (5) Apply the Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing Oily Film System (Material No.12ABE2) evenly to the surfaces you cleaned with a spray-gun or a brush. Prevent runs.
NOTE: Obey the same precautions as for the cleaning procedure with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) .
   (6) Lubricate the clean items (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-002).
Subtask 32-21-00-150-050-A

     (b) During the deoxidation, do not let the liquid run. If it is necessary install the protective covers.
     (c) Flush with water and do the protective treatment immediately.
   (3) Protective Treatment
     (a) Prepare a solution of Surface Pretreatment-Light Alloys Chemical Conversion Yellow - (Material No.10ABC1) (35 g/liter) (6 oz/US Gal.)
     (b) Apply the solution on the surface with a clean piece of cotton wool.
     (c) Let it stay on the surface for approximately 5 minutes. Apply more solution not less that two times but do not rub.
     (d) Make sure that the solution fully covers the surface.
     (e) Flush with water. Dry with filtered compressed air. Keep for 12 hours at the ambient temperature.
NOTE: Apply the paint as soon as possible when the part is dry.
Subtask 32-21-00-150-051-A

  • Rub the oxidized areas with abrasive paper.
  • Degrease with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
NOTE: The depth of the material removed during the treatment must not change the mechanical strength of the part. If you are not sure, send the part to be repaired.
   (2) Removal of Corrosion - Passivation
  • Apply Phosphoric Acid Surface Pretreatment-Steels Corrosion Removing & Metal Conditioning - (Material No.10BCC1) with no water with a brush to the areas with corrosion until :
  • the oxide is fully changed
  • it becomes crystalline
