Installation of the Torque Link Assy

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-21-27-860-051-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) In the cockpit, on the panel 400VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
   (2) On the steering handwheels (CAPT and F/O) and on the brake pedals, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate them.
   (3) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (4) On the panel 110VU, make sure that the PARK BRK control switch is in the OFF position.
   (5) Make sure that the wheels chocks are in position.
   (6) Make sure that the aircraft is on jacks at the forward jacking point (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-003).
   (7) Make sure that a wheel is removed from the nose landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-41-12-000-001) (not necessary for Upper Arm removal).
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-21-27-110-050-A
A. Preparation of the Replacement Component
   (1) Remove the outer protections from the arms of the torque links. Clean them with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) and dry them with filtered compressed air.
   (2) Install the grease nipples on the new torque links with the washers of the removed torque links.
   (3) Before installation, clean all the parts with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) .
   (4) Make sure that the parts retained are in the correct condition. Replace all the faulty parts.
   (5) Apply a light coat of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the bushes and the shafts.
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).

B. Installation of the Torque Link Assy
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (1) Installation of the lower arm (150):
     (a) Put the stop (25) in position on the lower arm (150) of the torque links.
     (b) Install the washers (26), bolts (27), washers (24) and nuts (23).
     (c) Tighten the nuts (23).
     (d) Put the lower arm (150) in position and align the bores of the lower arm (150), the lower bracket and the washers (20) and (21).
     (e) Install the lower shaft (31).
     (f) Engage the screw (22) with the screw head up.
     (g) Install the support (28).
     (h) Install the nut (30).
     (i) TORQUE the nut (30) to between 20 and 17 m.N (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft ) T.
     (j) Safety the nut (30) with the new
AIPC 32-21-13-12-100 COTTER PIN (29) or AIPC 32-21-13-22-100 COTTER PIN (29).
   (2) Do one of the two steps that follow to install the plug (155) or (158) to the support (28):
F Bulkhead Union ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F Plug ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Install the plug (155) or (158) with the self-locking nut (153) as follows:
       1 Install the washer (156) and the bolt (157) through the plug (155) or (158) and the support (28).
       2 Install the washer (152) and the self-locking nut (153).
       3 Tighten the self-locking nut (153).
       4 Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) around the joint between the sliding rod and plug (155) or (158).
     (b) Install the plug (155) or (158) with the nut (153) and the cotter pin (154) as follows:
       1 Install the washer (156) and the bolt (157) through the plug (155) or (158) and the support (28).
       2 Install the washer (152) and the nut (153).
       3 Tighten the nut (153).
       4 Safety the nut (153) with the new AIPC 32-21-11-32-050 COTTER PIN (154) or AIPC 32-21-11-03-040 COTTER PIN (154).
       5 Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.
06ABA1) around the joint between the sliding rod and plug (155) or (158).
   (3) Installation of the upper arm (151):
     (a) Put the support (65) in position on the upper arm (151) of the torque links.
     (b) Install the screw (60), the washers (61) and (66) and the nut (68).
     (c) Put the stop (64) in position on the support (65).
     (d) Install the screws (62), the washers (63) and (66) and the nuts (68).
     (e) TORQUE the nuts (68) to between 7.5 and 6.0 m.N (66.37 and 53.10 lbf.in ) T.
     (f) Safety the nut (68) with the new
AIPC 32-21-11-10-060 COTTER PIN (67) or the AIPC 32-21-11-90-240 COTTER PIN (67).
     (g) Put the upper arm (151) of the torque links and the washers (69) and (70) in position.
     (h) Install the upper shaft (73) and align the rigging holes.
     (i) Clean the screw (74) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.
08BAA9) and dry it with filtered compressed air.
     (j) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the screw (74).
     (k) Install the screw (74) and correctly put the threads in position.
     (l) Install the washer (72).
     (m) Install the nut (71) but do not tighten it at this step.
     (n) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) on the screw head (74) and gear leg interface.
   (4) Install the target support as follows:
     (a) Put the casing (134) in position on the screw (143).
     (b) Install the screw (141) and the new AIPC 32-21-11-51-470 LOCKWASHER (142) or AIPC 32-21-11-11-080 LOCKWASHER (142) or AIPC 32-21-11-91-470 LOCKWASHER (142).
     (c) TORQUE the screw (141) to between 7.5 and 6.0 m.N (66.37 and 53.10 lbf.in )
T and safety it with the lockwasher (142).
     (d) Install the screw (133), the washers (131), the spacers (159) and the nut (130).
     (e) TORQUE the nut (130) to between 7.5 and 6.0 m.N (66.37 and 53.10 lbf.in )
T.
     (f) Fold the tabs of the lockwasher (132) on the screw (133).
     (g) Put the rod (135) in position. Install the screw (136), the washer (138) and the nut (139).
NOTE: It is permitted to install the screw (136) from the right to the left or from the left to the right.
     (h) TORQUE the nut (139) to between 8.5 and 7.0 m.N (75.22 and 61.95 lbf.in )
T.
     (i) Safety the nut (139) with the new
AIPC 32-21-11-52-080 COTTER PIN (140) or AIPC 32-21-11-12-080 COTTER PIN (140) or AIPC 32-21-11-92-080 COTTER PIN (140).
     (j) Tighten the nut (71).
   (5) Do a check of the plays at the upper and lower torque-link hinges (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-00-200-804).
   (6) Install the center hinge (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-27-400-002).
   (7) To install only the lower arm (150):
  • Do Steps B.(1), B.(2), B.(5) and B.(6).
   (8) To install only the upper arm (151):
  • Do Steps B.(3) thru B.(6).
   (9) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the areas shown as E.

C. Install the wheel
   (1) Install the removed wheel of the nose gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-41-12-400-001).
Subtask 32-21-27-720-051-A
D. Test
   (1) Do a functional test of the normal extension and retraction of the nose landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-00-720-003).
   (2) Do a functional test of the nose wheel steering (Ref. AMM TASK 32-51-00-720-003).
   (3) Do an inspection of the NLG proximity sensor and target clearances (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-73-200-002).
5. Close-up
Subtask 32-21-27-860-052-A
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Lower the aircraft on its wheels (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-586-001).
   (2) Remove the safety barriers.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
