(2) Clean the threads of the shaft (1) and the nut (6) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry them with filtered compressed air.
(3) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the chromium surface of the shaft (1).
(5) Install the shaft (1).
(b) Apply a layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the nut (6) and install it.
(c) TORQUE the nut (6) to between 9.45 and 8.55 m.daN (69.69 and 63.05 lbf.ft )
and then loosen it again. Do this three times.
(d) Loosen the nut (6) to get a clearance of between 0.02 mm (0.0008 in.) and 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.) on the center hinge assembly.
(e) Make sure that you can align the hole of the nut (6) with the slot of the shaft (1) and keep the given clearance.
(f) If the hole of the nut (6) cannot be aligned with the slot of the shaft (1), do as follows:
1 Loosen the nut (6).
2 Remove the washer (5).
3 Adjust the thickness of the washer (5) to get the given clearance when:
5 If the thickness of the washer (5) is less than 4 mm (0.1575 in.), replace it with the new AIPC 32-21-11-43-115 WASHER (5) or AIPC 32-21-11-63-115 WASHER (5) or AIPC 32-21-11-83-115 WASHER (5).
6 Do the torque procedure of the nut (6) again.
(h) Install the screw (10), washer (7) and nut (8).
(i) TORQUE the nut (8) to between 0.25 and 0.2 m.daN (22.12 and 17.70 lbf.in )
.
(j) Install the new AIPC 32-21-11-43-092 COTTER PIN (9) or AIPC 32-21-11-63-092 COTTER PIN (9) or AIPC 32-21-11-83-092 COTTER PIN (9) on the nut (8).
(7) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the nut (8) and the head of the screw (10).
(8) Make sure that the lubrication points on the shaft (1) are clean and in correct condition.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) In the cockpit, on the right-center instrument panel 400VU:
(a) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing-gear control lever.
(2) On the steering handwheels (CAPT and F/O) and on the brake pedals:
(a) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate them.
(3) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
(4) On the PARKING BRK section of the panel 110VU, make sure that the control switch is in the OFF position.
(5) Make sure that the wheel chocks are in position.
4. Procedure(1) In the cockpit, on the right-center instrument panel 400VU:
(a) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing-gear control lever.

Subtask 32-21-27-110-052-A
A. Prepare the Replacement Component
(1) Remove the outer protections from the arms of the torque links. Clean them with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) and dry them with AIR SOURCE - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY.
(2) Before installation, clean all the parts (including the torque-link bushes) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) .
(3) Dry all the parts with filtered compressed air.
(4) Make sure that all the threads and splines are cleaned individually. No old grease must stay at the thread/spline root level.
(5) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(6) If you install a new shaft (1):
(a) On the new shaft (1), install the grease nipple(s) with the washer(s) that you retained when you removed the shaft (1).
(7) Make sure that there is no friction point when each torque-link arm moves.
(8) Examine all the parts (examine the washers very carefully) for damage (corrosion, cracks, impacts). Replace all the damaged parts.

WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
B. Installation of the Torque-Link Center Hinge NOTE: This subtask is only applicable if the NLG is installed without the lock plate on the torque-link center hinge.
(1) Make sure that there is no unwanted friction point when each torque-link arm moves. (2) Clean the threads of the shaft (1) and the nut (6) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry them with filtered compressed air.
(3) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the chromium surface of the shaft (1).
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
(4) Align the center bores of the upper and lower arms of the torque links and install the washers (2), (3) and (4). (5) Install the shaft (1).
NOTE: You can engage the shaft from the right side or from the left side.
(6) Do the torque procedure on the nut (6): CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE CLEARANCE IS NOT LESS THAN THE MINIMUM SPECIFIED CLEARANCE WHEN THE HOLE IN THE NUT IS ALIGNED WITH THE SLOT IN THE SHAFT. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MINIMUM CLEARANCE, TORSION LOADS CAN OCCUR IN THE SHAFT DURING OPERATION.
(a) Apply a layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the washer (5) and install it on the shaft (1). (b) Apply a layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the nut (6) and install it.
(c) TORQUE the nut (6) to between 9.45 and 8.55 m.daN (69.69 and 63.05 lbf.ft )
and then loosen it again. Do this three times. (d) Loosen the nut (6) to get a clearance of between 0.02 mm (0.0008 in.) and 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.) on the center hinge assembly.
(e) Make sure that you can align the hole of the nut (6) with the slot of the shaft (1) and keep the given clearance.
(f) If the hole of the nut (6) cannot be aligned with the slot of the shaft (1), do as follows:
1 Loosen the nut (6).
2 Remove the washer (5).
3 Adjust the thickness of the washer (5) to get the given clearance when:
- The hole of the nut (6) is aligned with the slot of the shaft (1).
NOTE: A 1/6 turn of the nut is equal to a linear movement of 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.).
4 Make sure that the total thickness of the washer (5) (shoulder included) is not less than 4 mm (0.1575 in.).5 If the thickness of the washer (5) is less than 4 mm (0.1575 in.), replace it with the new AIPC 32-21-11-43-115 WASHER (5) or AIPC 32-21-11-63-115 WASHER (5) or AIPC 32-21-11-83-115 WASHER (5).
6 Do the torque procedure of the nut (6) again.
NOTE: After the installation of the center hinge shaft, you can turn the shaft with your hand when the aircraft is on jacks. When the aircraft is not on jacks, because of residual loads, it is possible that you cannot turn the shaft with your hands although the center hinge pin is correctly installed.
(g) Apply a layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the screw (10). (h) Install the screw (10), washer (7) and nut (8).
(i) TORQUE the nut (8) to between 0.25 and 0.2 m.daN (22.12 and 17.70 lbf.in )
. (j) Install the new AIPC 32-21-11-43-092 COTTER PIN (9) or AIPC 32-21-11-63-092 COTTER PIN (9) or AIPC 32-21-11-83-092 COTTER PIN (9) on the nut (8).
(7) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the nut (8) and the head of the screw (10).
(8) Make sure that the lubrication points on the shaft (1) are clean and in correct condition.
C. Installation of the Torque-Link Center Hinge
(a) Install the washer (2) with its chamfer on the side of the shaft (1) head.
(3) Align the center bores of the upper and lower arms of the torque links and install the washer (3).
(4) Install the shaft (1) and washer (2) on the torque links.
(6) Apply a layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) on the splines of the washer (4).
(a) Use a brush to make sure that the two parts are fully lubricated within all the threads and around all the diameter.
(7) Install the washer (4) on the shaft (1).
(a) Make sure that the splines of the washer (4) correctly engage on the splines of the shaft (1).
(b) Make sure that the washer (4) touches the torque-link arm.
(8) Apply Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) to the threads of the nut (5).
(9) Fully cover the splines of the lock plate (6) and fill its hole of the lock plate with Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) .
(a) Use a brush to make sure that the two parts are fully lubricated (all the threads and around all the diameter).
(10) Hold the shaft (1) and install the nut (5).
(11) Tighten the nut (5) as follows:
(a) TORQUE the nut (5) to between 94.5 and 85.5 m.N (69.69 and 63.05 lbf.ft )
then loosen it. Do this three times.
(c) Put the lock plate (6) in position into the nut (5).
1 Make sure that the lock plate (6) lugs are correctly engaged into the nut (5) slots. Do not use force to install the lock plate (6).
(e) Make sure that you can align one of the lock plate (6) holes with the hole of the nut (5).
(12) Fully cover the threads of the bolt (7) with Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) .
(a) Use a brush to make sure that the two parts are fully lubricated within all the threads and around all the diameter.
(13) Install the bolt (7).
(14) TORQUE the bolt (7) to between 6.5 and 5.0 m.N (57.52 and 44.25 lbf.in )
.
14QFC1 Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES - (8) or CNSL02691-Safety cable 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) (8) through the bolt (7) and the holes of the lock plate (6).
(a) Twist the end of the lockwire (8) or the safety cable (8) in the lock plate (6) hole.
(17) Lubricate the torque-link center-hinge greasers (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-002).
5. Close-upNOTE: This subtask is only applicable if the NLG is installed with the lock plate on the torque-link center hinge.
(1) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the chromium surface of the shaft (1). NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
(2) Install the washer (2) on the shaft (1). (a) Install the washer (2) with its chamfer on the side of the shaft (1) head.
(3) Align the center bores of the upper and lower arms of the torque links and install the washer (3).
(4) Install the shaft (1) and washer (2) on the torque links.
NOTE: You can engage the shaft (1) from the right side or the left side of the torque links.
NOTE: The shaft (1) must engage easily without a hammer (non-metallic or other type). If you cannot install the shaft (1) easily, it is possible that aircraft on jacks will make the installation easier (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-003).
(5) Fully cover the splines and the threads of the shaft (1) with Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) . (6) Apply a layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) on the splines of the washer (4).
(a) Use a brush to make sure that the two parts are fully lubricated within all the threads and around all the diameter.
(7) Install the washer (4) on the shaft (1).
(a) Make sure that the splines of the washer (4) correctly engage on the splines of the shaft (1).
(b) Make sure that the washer (4) touches the torque-link arm.
(8) Apply Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) to the threads of the nut (5).
(9) Fully cover the splines of the lock plate (6) and fill its hole of the lock plate with Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) .
(a) Use a brush to make sure that the two parts are fully lubricated (all the threads and around all the diameter).
(10) Hold the shaft (1) and install the nut (5).
(11) Tighten the nut (5) as follows:
(a) TORQUE the nut (5) to between 94.5 and 85.5 m.N (69.69 and 63.05 lbf.ft )
then loosen it. Do this three times. CAUTION:
DO NOT USE A WRENCH TO TIGHTEN THE NUT. TIGHTEN IT WITH YOUR HAND ONLY. IF YOU USE A WRENCH, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(b) Loosen the nut (5), then tighten it again to make all the assembly parts touch. (c) Put the lock plate (6) in position into the nut (5).
1 Make sure that the lock plate (6) lugs are correctly engaged into the nut (5) slots. Do not use force to install the lock plate (6).
NOTE: You can only install the lock plate (6) with one of the three possible positions of the three lugs.
(d) Loosen the nut (5) until the nut slot touches the lug of the lock plate (6). (e) Make sure that you can align one of the lock plate (6) holes with the hole of the nut (5).
(12) Fully cover the threads of the bolt (7) with Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-seize Lithium Thickened System (Material No.03FCC2) .
(a) Use a brush to make sure that the two parts are fully lubricated within all the threads and around all the diameter.
(13) Install the bolt (7).
(14) TORQUE the bolt (7) to between 6.5 and 5.0 m.N (57.52 and 44.25 lbf.in )
. WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(15) Safety the bolt (7) with (a) Twist the end of the lockwire (8) or the safety cable (8) in the lock plate (6) hole.
NOTE: After the installation of the shaft (1), you can turn the shaft (1) with your hand when the aircraft is on jacks. When the aircraft is not on jacks, because of the remaining loads in the torque links:
(16) Make sure that the lubrication points on the shaft (1) are clean and in correct condition. - It is possible that you cannot turn the shaft with your hands although the shaft (1) is correctly installed.
(17) Lubricate the torque-link center-hinge greasers (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-002).
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).

A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
(1) Remove the safety barriers.
(2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(3) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
