(10) Remove the safety pin from the NLG lockstay assy (33).
(11) Disengage the NLG lockstay assy (33) by pushing the lower link assy (45) upwards by hand while operating the HOIST 500 KG (1100 LB) to tilt the NLG. Tilt the NLG until the free length in front of the jacking dome and in the NLG alignment is not less than 1700 mm (66.9292 in.).
(12) Remove the nut (6) and install the J47999 GUIDE CONE on the threaded part of the sliding tube.
(13) Removal of the shock absorber
(b) Slowly remove the shock absorber (10) from the NLG leg.
CAUTION:
BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE STRAPS AND THEIR PROTECTION, MAKE SURE THAT THE PARTS ARE CLEAN AND DRY. THIS IS TO PREVENT ABRASIVE EFFECTS ON THE PAINT.
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU INSTALL THE STRAPS, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A BLISTER PACK BETWEEN EACH STRAP AND THE PART. THIS IS TO PREVENT DAMAGE OR CHAFFING ON THE PAINT.
(1) Install the TROLLEY - LIFTING under the shock absorber (10). (2) Make sure that the valve (1) is open.
(3) Fully compress the shock absorber (10).
NOTE: Some oil may bleed from the valve, connect it to a hose to collect it.
(4) Hold the shock absorber. CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE STRAP BETWEEN THE HYDRAULIC PIPE AND THE STEERING ACTUATOR, AND NOT ON TOP OF THE PIPE. THIS IS TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE PIPE.
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU INSTALL THE STRAPS, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A BLISTER PACK BETWEEN EACH STRAP AND THE PART. THIS IS TO PREVENT DAMAGE OR CHAFFING ON THE PAINT.
(a) Place a 1500 mm (59.06 in.) STRAP-RATCHET between the towing bar (42) and the steering actuator (41) as close as possible of the barrel to hold the shock absorber (10), then hang moderately the strap. NOTE: Position the strap near the barrel as much as possible to avoid side load to be transmitted to the steering actuator.
(5) Loosen the shock absorber nut. (a) Remove the bolt (2) and washer (3).
(b) Cut and discard the lockwire.
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
1 Cut and discard the lockwire between the valve (1) and the stop plate (4). (c) Remove the stop plate (4), then remove the valve (1).
(d) Loosen the nut (6) with the J47564 ADAPTOR but do not remove it.
NOTE: Make sure that it is possible to turn the nut (6) by hand, but do not remove it at this stage. There will not be enough space to use a wrench to remove it later.
(6) Install and close the valve (1). (7) Installation of the strap
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A THIN, NON ABRASIVE FABRIC BETWEEN THE STRAP AND THE PART. THIS IS TO PREVENT DAMAGE OR CHAFFING ON THE PAINT.
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PLASTIC OR METALLIC "0 POSITION" INDICATOR. IF NECESSARY, REMOVE THE INDICATOR.
(a) Put the 735 mm (28.94 in.) STRAP - LIFTING around the turning tube (43). (8) Installation of the hoist and its strap
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU INSTALL THE STRAPS, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A BLISTER PACK BETWEEN EACH STRAP AND THE PART. THIS IS TO PREVENT DAMAGE OR CHAFFING ON THE PAINT.
(a) Install the HOIST 500 KG (1100 LB) with the 500 mm (19.69 in.) STRAP - LIFTING on the center of the upper arm forestay (44). (9) Securing the turning tube.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE STRAP BETWEEN THE TOWING BAR AND THE STEERING CYLINDER IS CORRECTLY ATTACHED AND SAFETIED. IF NOT, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE STRAP AROUND THE TURNING TUBE IS CORRECTLY ATTACHED AND SAFETIED WHEN YOU TILT THE NLG. IF NOT, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(a) Attach the hook of the HOIST - MINI to the strap around the turning tube (43).
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE NLG SHOCK ABSORBER. THE NLG SHOCK ABSORBER IS VERY HEAVY (AROUND 60KG), AND A MINIMUM OF THREE PERSONS IS NECESSARY TO MOVE IT. IF THE NLG SHOCK ABSORBER FALLS, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO HIT THE INNER PART OF THE SHOCK STRUT WITH THE SLIDING TUBE.
(a) Keep the shock absorber (10) in fully compressed position by hand (power of two persons needed) and remove the strap between the towing bar (42) and the steering actuator (41). (b) Slowly remove the shock absorber (10) from the NLG leg.
NOTE: The shock absorber is close to disengage from the main fitting when about 1250 mm (49.2126 in.) of the chromium length is visible.
