Installation of the Safety Devices on the Landing Gears


WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear or the landing gear doors.
   (3) Make sure that the wheel chocks are correctly installed.
4. Procedure

A. Installation of the Safety Devices on the Landing Gears
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT, IF THE LANDING GEAR DOORS ARE OPEN, THEY ARE SAFETIED BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE LANDING GEAR SAFETY-DEVICES. IF THE LANDING GEAR DOORS ARE OPEN BUT NOT SAFETIED THERE IS A RISK THAT THEY CAN CLOSE AND CAUSE INJURY.
   (1) To install the left and right MLG safety locks:
     (a) If a landing gear door is open, make sure:
     (b) Make sure that the piston rod of each lock stay actuating cylinder is clean.
     (c) There are four alternative tools that can be used for this task:
     (d) Remove the pin and open the GROUND LOCK SLEEVE.
     (e) Make sure that the GROUND LOCK SLEEVE is clean and in the correct condition.
     (f) Put the GROUND LOCK SLEEVE in position on the piston rod of each lock stay actuating cylinder.
     (g) Close the GROUND LOCK SLEEVE and install the pin from the inboard side.
     (h) Make sure that the flag is in view.
   (2) To install the NLG safety lock:
     (a) If a landing gear door is open, make sure:
     (b) Make sure that the holes in the NLG lock stay are aligned.
     (c) There are two alternative tools that can be used for this task:
     (d) Make sure that the NLG GROUND LOCK PIN is clean and in a correct condition.
     (e) Install the NLG GROUND LOCK PIN in the holes in the NLG lock stay.
     (f) Make sure that the flag is in view.
5. Close-up

A. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the safety barriers.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
