3. Job Set-up
WARNING: WHEN YOU OPERATE THE FUEL PUMPS DURING A MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, A MAINTENANCE PERSON MUST BE IN THE COCKPIT. THIS PERSON MUST STOP THE PUMPS WHEN THE LOW PRESSURE FAULT LIGHT(S) (ON PANEL 40VU) COME ON, TO PREVENT OPERATION OF THE PUMPS(S) WITHOUT FUEL ('DRY RUNNING'). OPERATION OF THE PUMPS WITHOUT FUEL CAN CAUSE A FIRE.

A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) below the applicable access panels.
   (2) Open the fan cowl doors:
     (a) 437AL and 447AL (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010).
   (3) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors:
     (a) For the left nacelle:
     (b) For the right nacelle:
   (4) Remove the applicable access panels:
     (a) For the left wing, remove:
     (b) For the right wing, remove:

B. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) below the applicable access panels.

     (a) For the left nacelle:

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CIRCUITS IN MAINTENANCE ARE ISOLATED BEFORE YOU SUPPLY ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIRCRAFT. UNWANTED ELECTRICAL POWER CAN BE DANGEROUS.
   (1) On the panel 115VU, make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1 and the ENG/MASTER 2 switches are in the OFF position.
   (2) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (3) Do the EIS start procedure (ECAM only) (Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001), then:

  • on the ECAM control panel (CP), push (in) the FUEL pushbutton switch (P/BSW)
  • make sure that the engine LP valves are shown closed (amber cross-line) on the ECAM lower display unit (DU).
   (4) Make sure each wing fuel tank contains a minimum of 1000 kg (2204.6220 lb) of fuel. Refuel if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).
   (5) On the panel 115VU, put the ENG/MASTER 1 and the ENG/MASTER 2 switches in the ON position.
   (6) On the ECAM lower DU:

  • make sure that the engine LP valves are open (green in-line).

   (1) Examine the main fuel-feed line from the fuel double wall to the fluid disconnect panel for fuel leaks:

  • release (out) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 and R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 P/BSW
