(1) Install the latch
(c) Release the #2 (center) latch.
(d) Release the #3 (aft) latch.
(e) Move the lock rings to release the hold-open rods from the stow brackets.
(f) Extend the hold-open rods.
(g) Attach the hold-open rods to the attach brackets on the engine case.
1 Check latch handles.

WARNING:
DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL(S) WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 60 MPH (96 KM/H) OR MORE. INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR IF THE WIND MOVES THE FAN COWL(S).
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL IF YOU OPEN THE FAN COWL(S) WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 30MPH (48KM/H) OR MORE. INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR IF THE WIND MOVES THE FAN COWL(S).
CAUTION:
WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE OPEN, DO NOT USE THE FIRE DETECTOR SUPPORT TUBE AND ELEMENTS FOR A HAND HOLD. THE TUBE AND ELEMENTS CAN BEND. THIS WILL CAUSE THEM TO RUB ON OTHER COMPONENTS AND CAUSE DAMAGE, OR TO MAKE INCORRECT FIRE WARNING INDICATION.
1. Reason for the JobNOTE: VSB RA32071-163 (equivalent to Airbus service bulletin SB 71-1068)
Introduction of a lockable latch in the forward position (position 1 FWD latch) that must be opened and closed and locked with a key and flag assembly. The key and flag assembly are stowed in the cockpit and must not be used if there is damage to the key or flag. The key always has to stay with the latch.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
(4) Collect the fan cowl latch key from the cockpit storage location.

4. ProcedureSubtask 71-13-00-010-063-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION:
USE YOUR HANDS TO OPERATE THE FAN COWL LATCHES. IF YOU USE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM YOUR HANDS TO OPERATE THE LATCHES, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LATCHES.
A. Opening of the fan cowl doors (1) Install the latch
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE A KEY WITHOUT FLAG TO OPERATE THE FAN COWL DOOR. DO NOT STOW A KEY WITHOUT FLAG IN THE COCKPIT.
WHEN YOU USE AND STOW THE KEY, MAKE SURE THAT IT HAS A FLAG ATTACHED TO IT.
IF THE FLAG IS MISSING OR DAMAGED, IT MUST BE REPLACED BEFORE THE KEY CAN BE USED OR STOWED AGAIN.
CAUTION:
DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE LATCH WHEN THE LATCH IS OPEN. THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED ONLY WHEN THE LATCH IS CLOSED AND FULLY LOCKED WITH THE CLEVIS ENGAGED. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE KEY AND FLAG ASSEMBLY OR TO THE LATCH CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE TOOLS ON THE KEY AND FLAG ASSEMBLY. OPERATE THE KEY BY HAND ONLY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE KEY AND FLAG ASSEMBLY OR TO THE LATCH CAN OCCUR.
(a) First push, then rotate the key 90 degrees in the counter clockwise direction to unlock latch No. 1, with the HA2273-1 KEY AND TETHERED FLAG. NOTE: To ease the operation, you can use your other hand to push the handle before to turn the key.
(b) Release the #1 (forward) latch. (c) Release the #2 (center) latch.
(d) Release the #3 (aft) latch.
(e) Move the lock rings to release the hold-open rods from the stow brackets.
(f) Extend the hold-open rods.
CAUTION:
BOTH HOLD-OPEN RODS ON BOTH DOORS MUST BE ENGAGED WHEN DOOR IS OPEN.
1 Extend the hold-open rods to hold the doors open at either the 40 degree or 55 degree position. (g) Attach the hold-open rods to the attach brackets on the engine case.
1 Check latch handles.
CAUTION:
DO NOT ENGAGE THE LATCH HANDLE HOOKS WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE OPEN.
a Make sure that all the latch handle hooks are not engaged.
