Thrust-Reverser Door LatchesSubtask 78-36-00-941-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 78-36-00-010-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL, 438AR
(b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL, 448AR.
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
Subtask 78-36-00-040-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL, 438AR
(b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL, 448AR.
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
C. Make the thrust reverser unserviceable (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041).
4. ProcedureNOTE: Do not close the fan cowl doors.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Release each of the four door latches of the thrust reverser as follows :
(2) Pull down on the latch handle to disengage the latch hook from its attachment point.
Subtask 78-36-00-020-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
DO NOT OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER DOORS IF THE WIND SPEED IS MORE THAN 40 KNOTS.
(1) Push in on the snap to free the latch handle. (2) Pull down on the latch handle to disengage the latch hook from its attachment point.
B. Remove cap from quick disconnect of the hydraulic junction box.
Subtask 78-36-00-611-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL C. Make sure that the reservoir of the HIX4001 PUMP-ACTUATOR, FAN REVERSER is filled with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
Subtask 78-36-00-480-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL D. Connect the hose of the HIX4001 PUMP-ACTUATOR, FAN REVERSER to the quick disconnect on the hydraulic junction box.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-057-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL E. Opening of the Left or Right Door:
(1) For the left door: to the 35-degree position (Normal Maintenance position) or to the 45-degree position (Engine Change position).
(2) For the right door: to the 33-degree position (Normal Maintenance position) or to the 45-degree position (Engine Change position).
(b) Attach the Hold Open Rod (HOR) as follows:
(4) Open the half door to the 45-degree position (for engine change) as follows:
(a) On flaps panel 114VU:
2 Do one of the steps that follow:
(c) Remove the red bolt and nut from the 45-degree lug of the attachment bracket on the forward frame of the half door. Temporarily attach the nut to the bolt and tighten it.
(d) Attach the HOR as follows:
a Use the quick release pin to attach the HOR to the 45-degree (UPPER) lug of the attachment bracket on the forward frame of the half door.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-058-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) For the left door: to the 35-degree position (Normal Maintenance position) or to the 45-degree position (Engine Change position).
(2) For the right door: to the 33-degree position (Normal Maintenance position) or to the 45-degree position (Engine Change position).
NOTE: To open the left door to the 35-degree position or the right door to the 33-degree position (Normal Maintenance position), do step (3).
To open the left or right door to the 45-degree position (Engine Change position), do step (4).
(3) Open the half door to the 33/35-degree position as follows: To open the left or right door to the 45-degree position (Engine Change position), do step (4).
WARNING:
SUDDEN CLOSURE OF HALF DOORS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO PERSONNEL. ALL PERSONNEL MUST BE CLEAR OF AREA UNDER AND BETWEEN HALF DOORS DURING OPENING OR CLOSING OF REVERSER.
(a) Operate the HIX4001 PUMP-ACTUATOR, FAN REVERSER to open the half door to the 33/35-degree position. (b) Attach the Hold Open Rod (HOR) as follows:
WARNING:
YOU MUST HOLD EACH HALF DOOR OPENED WITH THE HOLD-OPEN ROD TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY DUE TO ACCIDENTAL CLOSURE.
1 Remove the quick release pin that attaches the HOR to the upper bracket on the adapter ring assembly (FAN CASE). CAUTION:
DO NOT MOVE THE HOLD-OPEN ROD TO THE 45 DEGREE (UPPER) LUG OF THE ATTACHMENT BRACKET ON THE HALF DOOR OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
a Use the quick release pin to attach the HOR to the 33/35-degree (LOWER) lug of the attachment bracket on the forward frame of the half door. (4) Open the half door to the 45-degree position (for engine change) as follows:
(a) On flaps panel 114VU:
WARNING:
SUDDEN CLOSURE OF HALF DOORS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO PERSONNEL. ALL PERSONNEL MUST BE CLEAR OF AREA UNDER AND BETWEEN HALF DOORS DURING OPENING OR CLOSING OF REVERSER.
CAUTION:
RETRACT WING SLATS BEFORE OPENING THRUST REVERSER OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
1 Make sure that the slat and the flap are in the fully retracted position.2 Do one of the steps that follow:
- Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION or the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap slat lever, or
- Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the wing slats.
(c) Remove the red bolt and nut from the 45-degree lug of the attachment bracket on the forward frame of the half door. Temporarily attach the nut to the bolt and tighten it.
(d) Attach the HOR as follows:
WARNING:
YOU MUST HOLD EACH HALF DOOR OPENED WITH THE HOLD-OPEN ROD TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY DUE TO ACCIDENTAL CLOSURE.
1 Remove the quick release pin that attaches the HOR to the lower bracket on the adapter ring assembly (FAN CASE). a Use the quick release pin to attach the HOR to the 45-degree (UPPER) lug of the attachment bracket on the forward frame of the half door.
F. On flaps panel 114VU:
(2) Do one of the steps that follow:
(4) Remove the red bolt and nut from the top lug of the HOR attach fitting on the inner cowl. Tighten the nut and the bolt.
(5) Attach the HOR:
(b) Move the HOR to the attachment bracket of the forward frame.
(c) Attach the HOR with the quick-release pin.
Subtask 78-36-00-680-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
RETRACT WING SLATS BEFORE OPENING THRUST REVERSER OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
(1) Make sure that the slat and the flap are in the fully retracted position.(2) Do one of the steps that follow:
- Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION or the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap slat lever, or
- Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the wing slats.
WARNING:
SUDDEN CLOSURE OF HALF DOORS COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO PERSONNEL. ALL PERSONNEL MUST BE CLEAR OF AREA UNDER AND BETWEEN HALF DOORS DURING OPENING OR CLOSING OF REVERSER.
(3) Open the half door to the 45-degree position. NOTE: The half doors are to be opened to the 45-degree position for an engine change.
(a) Operate the HIX4001 PUMP-ACTUATOR, FAN REVERSER to open the half door to the 45-degree position. (4) Remove the red bolt and nut from the top lug of the HOR attach fitting on the inner cowl. Tighten the nut and the bolt.
(5) Attach the HOR:
WARNING:
YOU MUST HOLD EACH HALF DOOR OPENED WITH THE HOLD-OPEN ROD TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY DUE TO ACCIDENTAL CLOSURE.
(a) Remove the quick release pin retaining the HOR on the lower bracket. (b) Move the HOR to the attachment bracket of the forward frame.
(c) Attach the HOR with the quick-release pin.
G. Drain the fluid from the door opening actuator.
(2) Let the fluid in the actuator drain into the hand pump for a minimum of one minute.
Subtask 78-36-00-080-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: The fluid should always be drained from the actuator, if not, there will not be enough fluid in the pump to open the other door. If more fluid is added to the pump there will be too much fluid in the pump when the door is closed.
(1) Open the relief valve on the HIX4001 PUMP-ACTUATOR, FAN REVERSER. (2) Let the fluid in the actuator drain into the hand pump for a minimum of one minute.
H. Disconnect the hose of the HIX4001 PUMP-ACTUATOR, FAN REVERSER from the quick disconnect on the hydraulic junction box.
