Subtask 71-13-00-410-083-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Closing of the Fan Cowl Doors
CAUTION: DO NOT LEAVE THIS JOB AFTER JUST CLOSING THE FAN COWLS, CONTINUE ON TO SECURE THE LATCHES. IF YOU ARE CALLED AWAY PRIOR TO LATCHING, THEN EITHER RE-OPEN ONE COWL DOOR OR LATCH THE LATCHES BEFORE WALKING AWAY FROM THIS ENGINE.
   (1) Prior closing the fan cowl doors, do a check of the latch handles.
CAUTION: DO NOT ENGAGE THE LATCH HANDLE HOOKS WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE OPEN.
     (a) Make sure that all the latch handle hooks are not engaged.
NOTE: The hooks can create damage to the engine parts during Fan Cowl Door closure.
   (2) Closing of the left fan cowl door
     (a) Manually lift and hold the left fan cowl door (10) at the lower edge so that the weight is not on the fixed Hold Open Rod (HOR) (11) and telescoping HOR (12).
     (b) Move the quick disconnect plunger on the fixed HOR (11) away from the bracket on the engine.
     (c) Disconnect the fixed HOR (11) from the bracket.
     (d) Attach the fixed HOR (11) to the stow bracket on the left fan cowl door (10).
     (e) Move the quick disconnect plunger away from the bracket to open the fitting attachment on the hold open HOR (11).
     (f) Attach the fitting attachment to the bolt on the stow bracket.
     (g) Make sure that the quick disconnect plunger locks onto the bolt.
     (h) Manually lift the left fan cowl door (10) until the telescoping HOR (12) extends sufficiently so that you can turn the release collar.
     (i) Turn the collar and pull it up to unlock the telescoping HOR (12).
NOTE: When the telescoping HOR (10) is unlocked, you will no longer see a green band adjacent to the release collar. You will see a red band adjacent to the release collar.
     (j) Lower the left fan cowl door as follows:
WARNING: HAVE A PERSON HOLD OPEN THE FAN COWL DOOR TO MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT FALL. THE FAN COWL DOOR IS HEAVY. IF THE AFT HOLD-OPEN ROD FAILS AND THE DOOR FALLS, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
1 Slowly lower the left fan cowl door (10) until it is on the bottom.
   (3) Closing of the right fan cowl door
     (a) Manually lift and hold the right fan cowl door (15) at the lower edge so that the weight is not on the fixed HOR (14) and telescoping HOR (13).
     (b) Move the quick disconnect plunger on the fixed HOR (14) away from the bracket on the engine.
     (c) Disconnect the fixed HOR (14) from the bracket.
     (d) Attach the fixed HOR (14) to the stow bracket on the right fan cowl door (15).
     (e) Move the quick disconnect plunger away from the bracket and put the fitting attachment on the fixed HOR (14) on the bolt on the stow bracket.
     (f) Make sure that the quick disconnect plunger locks into position.
     (g) Manually lift the right fan cowl door (15) until the telescoping HOR (13) extends sufficiently so that you can turn the release collar.
     (h) Turn the collar and pull it up to unlock the telescoping HOR (13).
NOTE: When the telescoping HOR (13) is unlocked, you will no longer see a green band adjacent to the release collar. You will see a red band adjacent to the release collar.
     (i) Lower the right fan cowl door as follows:
WARNING: HAVE A PERSON HOLD OPEN THE FAN COWL DOOR TO MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT FALL. THE FAN COWL DOOR IS HEAVY. IF THE AFT HOLD-OPEN ROD FAILS AND THE DOOR FALLS, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
1 Slowly lower the right fan cowl door (15) until it is on the bottom.
   (4) Visually examine the alignment between POD and POD wear plate.
NOTE: If the fan cowl door falls, the push open device (POD) can become caught under the inlet cowl POD wear plate. The door can then apparently be fully closed and latched when it is not safely latched. The function of the POD is to keep doors that are not latched partially open. Then you can see that they need to be latched. Make sure that the POD is not caught under the inlet cowl POD wear plate before you close the latches.
     (a) Make sure that the push open device correctly aligns with the POD wear plate.
   (5) Push the fan cowl doors as follows:
     (a) Push the right fan cowl door (15) until it is against the inlet cowl.
     (b) Make sure that the axial locators (6) and (7) on the right fan cowl door (15) engage the locator clips on the inlet cowl (refer to Fig. 201, Sheet 1, View B).
     (c) Push or pull the left fan cowl door (10) against the right fan cowl door (15).
     (d) Make sure that the alignment pins (5) go into the holes adjacent to the latches (1), (4) and (3).
     (e) Make sure that the axial locators (2) and (8) on the left fan cowl door (10) engage the locator clips on the inlet cowl.
NOTE: The push-open device on the outboard fan cowl door will try to push the doors open as you close them.
CAUTION: CLOSE THE LATCHES IN THE SEQUENCE THAT FOLLOWS. DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE LATCHES OF THE FAN COWL DOORS CLOSE WITH A FORCE NO MORE THAN 60 LBF (27.2 KGF). IF THE FORCE IS TOO HIGH, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE THE SPECIFIED FORCE TO CLOSE THE LATCH HANDLES. IF ONE OR MORE LATCH(ES) IS (ARE) NOT CLOSED CORRECTLY, THE FAN COWL DOORS CAN OPEN IN FLIGHT.
CAUTION: IF THE BAULK BRACKET ABOVE THE AFT LATCH (L3) IS NOT THERE OR IF ITS WEARSTRIP IS MISSING, DO NOT OPEN THE LATCH HOOK MORE THAN NECESSARY TO DISENGAGE OR ENGAGE THE KEEPER. DO NOT MOVE THE LATCH HOOK TOO MUCH IN THE DIRECTION OF THE LATCH HANDLE OR PUT THE LATCH HOOK AGAINST THE LATCH HANDLE. MAKE SURE THAT THE ANGULAR POSITION OF THE LATCH HOOK IS NOT LESS THAN 90 DEGREES FROM THE LATCH HANDLE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, THE LATCH CAN HIT THE ENGINE OIL TUBE OR THE BAULK BRACKET AND CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (6) Closing of the latches
NOTE: A force between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN) at the end of the handle of a correctly adjusted latch is necessary to get the overcenter locking function.
     (a) Engage the hook on the (L1) forward latch (4) with the related latch keeper (9).
     (b) Close the (L1) forward latch (4) until it is flush with the door surface and locked into position.
     (c) Engage the hook on the (L2) center latch (3) with the related latch keeper (9).
     (d) Close the (L2) center latch (3) until it is flush with the door surface and locked into position.
     (e) Engage the hook on the (L3) aft latch (1) with the related latch keeper (9).
     (f) Close the (L3) aft latch (1) until it is flush with the door surface and locked into position.
   (7) Make sure that the three latches are correctly closed.
     (a) Make sure that the distance between the left and right fan cowl doors is between 0.170 in. (4.32 mm) and 0.250 in. (6.35 mm).
     (b) If the latches do not have the correct tension or if the distance between the doors is not within the correct range, adjust the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-820-802).
     (c) Make sure the latch handles are flush with the adjacent fan cowl surface.
     (d) Make sure the latch triggers are flush with the latch handle surfaces.
     (e) If a latch handle or latch trigger is not flush, open the latch and close it again. Refer to the applicable step above.
