A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
   (2) Retraction of the slats:
CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL IF THE WING LEADING EDGE SLATS ARE EXTENDED. DAMAGE TO THE FAN COWL, WING LEADING EDGE SLATS AND WING CAN OCCUR.
     (a) On the ECAM upper display-unit, make sure that the slats are fully retracted.
     (b) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap and slat control lever.
     (c) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the flaps and the slats.

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
447AL, 448AR.
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Ground Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).
   (2) Make sure that the thrust reverser translating sleeves are retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-803).
4. Procedure
WARNING: DO NOT KEEP OPEN A THRUST REVERSER DOOR WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 46 MPH (74.0 KM/H) OR MORE. IF THE WIND MOVES THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR, INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL IF YOU OPEN/CLOSE A THRUST REVERSER DOOR WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 23 MPH (37 KM/H) OR MORE. IF THE WIND MOVES THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR, INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: WHEN YOU OPEN OR CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOORS, MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA BELOW AND BETWEEN THE DOORS IS CLEAR. IF THE DOORS CLOSE SUDDENLY, INJURY TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: RETRACT WING SLATS BEFORE OPENING THRUST REVERSER OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: IF THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES ARE OPEN, MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST-REVERSER TRANSLATING-SLEEVES ARE RETRACTED BEFORE YOU EXTEND THE SLATS. IF THE TRANSLATING SLEEVES ARE EXTENDED, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SLATS AND THE TRANSLATING SLEEVES WHEN THE SLATS EXTEND.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-135-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Opening of the Closure Assist Assembly
   (1) Engage the closure assist assembly (2). If the closure assist assembly (2) is damaged or missing, go to step 4.A.(2).
NOTE: The closure assist assembly (2) only helps to open or close the L1A latch (12) and the L1B latch (11). It is not necessary to use the closure assist assembly (2) if you can open and close these latches without it.
CAUTION: DISENGAGE THE CLOSURE ASSIST FITTING FROM THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY BEFORE YOU DISENGAGE THE CLIP ASSEMBLY ON THE STOW BRACKET. IF YOU DISENGAGE THE CLIP ASSEMBLY ON THE STOW BRACKET FIRST, DAMAGE TO THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Move the hinged panel on the closure assist fitting (1) to move the spring clip off of the closure assist assembly (2).
     (b) Open the clip assembly on the stow bracket (3). Move the closure assist assembly (2) out of the stow bracket (3).
     (c) Hold the free rod end of the closure assist assembly (2) which is not attached to the thrust reverser door so that it does not move.
     (d) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (2) to make it longer.
       1 Increase the length until the rod end can be attached to the closure assist hook (5) on the right thrust reverser door (6).
       2 Make sure that approximately an equal amount of thread shows on each side of the barrel of the closure assist assembly (2).
     (e) Engage the closure assist assembly (2) in the closure assist hook (5).
CAUTION: DO NOT CONTINUE TO TURN THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY IF IT STOPS. THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY HAS A STOP TO MAKE SURE THE TWO THRUST REVERSERS DO NOT HIT EACH OTHER. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
     (f) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (2) until you can easily open the L1A latch (12) and the L1B latch (11).
       1 Open the latches in the sequence shown in Para. 4.B.
NOTE: If you cannot open another latch, you can tighten the closure assist assembly (2) more to remove the force on that latch.
   (2) If the closure assist assembly (2) is damaged or missing, do the following:
     (a) Have one person push the left thrust reverser door (4).
     (b) Have another person push the right thrust reverser door (6).
     (c) Push the thrust reverser doors together until you can open the L1A latch (12) at the bottom of the doors.

B. Opening of the Latches
CAUTION: ALWAYS OPEN/CLOSE THE LATCHES ON THE THRUST REVERSER IN THE SEQUENCE THAT FOLLOWS. YOU CAN DAMAGE THE THRUST REVERSER IF YOU DO NOT OPEN/CLOSE THE LATCHES IN THE CORRECT SEQUENCE.
   (1) Push the latch trigger to release the L5 latch (7) on the core cowl. Open the L5 latch (7).
   (2) Push the latch trigger to release the L4 latch (8) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L4 latch (8).
   (3) Push the latch trigger to release the L3 latch (9) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L3 latch (9).
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE BIFURCATION LATCH SYSTEM HANDLE IS COOL TO THE TOUCH BEFORE YOU OPEN IT, OR USE INSULATION TO PROTECT YOUR HAND. THE BIFURCATION LATCH SYSTEM HANDLE CAN BE HOT.
   (4) Push the latch trigger to release the bifurcation latch system handle (13) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the bifurcation latch system handle (13).
   (5) Push the latch trigger to release the L2 latch (10) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L2 latch (10).
CAUTION: DO NOT CONTINUE TO TURN THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY IF IT STOPS. THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY HAS A STOP TO MAKE SURE THE TWO THRUST REVERSERS DO NOT HIT EACH OTHER. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
   (6) If necessary, turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (2) until it releases the pressure on the L1B latch (11) and L1A latch (12) so you can open the latches.
   (7) Push the latch triggers to release the L1B latch (11) and L1A latch (12) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the latches (11) and (12).
Subtask 78-36-00-410-132-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Closing of the Closure Assist Assembly
CAUTION: PUT THE CLOSURE ASSIST FITTING IN ITS STOWED POSITION WHEN THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY IS NOT IN USE. IF YOU LET THE CLOSURE ASSIST FITTING HANG, OTHER COMPONENTS CAN HIT IT AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO IT.
   (1) If you engaged the closure assist assembly (2), put the closure assist assembly (2) in its stowed position.
     (a) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (2) to make it longer.
       1 Increase the length of the closure assist assembly (2) until the rod end disengages from the closure assist hook (5).
     (b) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (2) to make it shorter.
       1 Decrease the length of the closure assist assembly (2) until the rod end fits into the hole in the stow bracket (3).
     (c) Put the closure assist assembly (2) in the stow bracket (3).
       1 Close the clip assembly on the stow bracket (3) to safety the closure assist assembly (2).
     (d) Move the hinged panel on the closure assist fitting (1) to put the spring clip on the closure assist assembly (2).
NOTE: The hinged panel is a red color so that it will be seen if it is not correctly stowed.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-070-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Opening of the Left Thrust Reverser Door
   (1) Remove the dust cap on the quick disconnect fitting on the Door Opening System (DOS) actuator (14).
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN 1700 PSI (11721 KPA) OF PRESSURE ON THE DOS ACTUATOR. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE OIL TO SPILL FROM THE OVERPRESSURE RELIEF VALVE ON THE ACTUATOR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT ENGINE OIL WHEN YOU FILL THE RESERVOIR OF THE THRUST REVERSER MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM. REFER TO THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE MANUFACTURER. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
  • THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPEN AND CLOSE SLOWLY
  • THE DOS ACTUATOR POSSIBLY WILL NOT CLOSE AT TEMPERATURES BELOW -35°C
  • YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
   (2) Connect the flexible hose of the thrust reverser manual hydraulic opening system to the quick disconnect fitting of the DOS actuator (14). Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT THE HOLD OPEN ROD TO THE ENGINE FAN CASE BEFORE YOU FULLY OPEN THE LEFT THRUST REVERSER DOOR. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
   (3) Release the top end of the hold open rod (15) from the hold open rod bolt (16).
     (a) PRE SB GRAA320NEO-G-78-36-0001-00001-930A-C

If the hold open rod is missing or damaged on the left thrust reverser door (4):
       1 You can use the 636-3000-10GSE TR HOLD OPEN STRUT TO PYLON as an alternative to the hold open rods, with the limitations of AOL A320NEO-0021-1.
       2 Refer to the manufacturer's instructions of the 636-3000-10GSE TR HOLD OPEN STRUT TO PYLON.

If the hold open rod is missing or damaged on the left thrust reverser door (4):
       1 You can use the 636GSE3009-901 TR HOLD OPEN STRUT as an alternative to the hold open rods.
       2 Refer to the manufacturer's instructions of the 636GSE3009-901 TR HOLD OPEN STRUT.

CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE HOLD OPEN ROD FALL INTO THE POSITION AWAY FROM THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HARDWARE.
   (4) Extend the hold open rod (15) until it is fully extended and locked. Slowly lower the hold open rod (15) away from the left thrust reverser door (4).
CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN OR CLOSE THE LEFT OR RIGHT THRUST REVERSER DOOR UNTIL ALL OF THE LATCHES ARE OPEN. IF A LATCH STAYS ENGAGED, DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR MORE THAN 45 DEGREES FROM THE VERTICAL. DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR AND/OR PYLON CAN OCCUR.
   (5) Operate the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM until the DOS actuator (14) opens the left thrust reverser door (4) to a small distance more than 43 degrees from the vertical. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (6) Close the valve on the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM to hold the left thrust reverser door (4) in position.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE HOLD-OPEN RODS ARE INSTALLED BEFORE YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE. FAILURE OF THE OPENING SYSTEM CAN CAUSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR TO CLOSE. IF THE HOLD-OPEN RODS ARE NOT INSTALLED, THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: DO NOT UNLOCK THE HOLD-OPEN ROD UNTIL YOU PREPARE TO CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR. UNLOCKING THE HOLD-OPEN ROD CAN CAUSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR TO CLOSE, WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (7) Adjust the length of the hold open rod (15) until it locks into the extended position. Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on the hold open rod (15).
NOTE: When the green band is in view, the hold open rod (15) is correctly locked.
   (8) Attach the hold open rod (15) to the hold open rod support bracket (17) on the fan case.
   (9) Open the pressure relief valve on the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM to release pressure from the DOS actuator (14).
   (10) Lower the left thrust reverser door (4) on the hold open rod (15).
     (a) Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on hold open rod (15).
   (11) Disconnect the flexible hose of the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM from the quick disconnect fitting on the DOS actuator (14). Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-071-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
E. Opening of the Right Thrust Reverser Door
   (1) Remove the dust cap on the quick disconnect fitting on the DOS actuator (18).
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN 1700 PSI (11721 KPA) OF PRESSURE ON THE DOS ACTUATOR. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE OIL TO SPILL FROM THE OVERPRESSURE RELIEF VALVE ON THE ACTUATOR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT ENGINE OIL WHEN YOU FILL THE RESERVOIR OF THE THRUST REVERSER MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM. REFER TO THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE MANUFACTURER. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
  • THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPEN AND CLOSE SLOWLY
  • THE DOS ACTUATOR POSSIBLY WILL NOT CLOSE AT TEMPERATURES BELOW -35°C
  • YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
   (2) Connect the flexible hose of the thrust reverser manual hydraulic opening system to the quick disconnect fitting of the DOS actuator (18). Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT THE HOLD OPEN ROD TO THE ENGINE FAN CASE BEFORE YOU FULLY OPEN THE LEFT THRUST REVERSER DOOR. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
   (3) Release the top end of the hold open rod (19) from the hold open rod bolt (20).
     (a) PRE SB GRAA320NEO-G-78-36-0001-00001-930A-C

If the hold open rod is missing or damaged on the right thrust reverser door (6):
       1 You can use the 636-3000-10GSE TR HOLD OPEN STRUT TO PYLON as an alternative to the hold open rods, with the limitations of AOL A320NEO-0021-1.
       2 Refer to the manufacturer's instructions of the 636-3000-10GSE TR HOLD OPEN STRUT TO PYLON.

If the hold open rod is missing or damaged on the right thrust reverser door (6):
       1 You can use the 636GSE3009-901 TR HOLD OPEN STRUT as an alternative to the hold open rods.
       2 Refer to the manufacturer's instructions of the 636GSE3009-901 TR HOLD OPEN STRUT.

   (4) Extend the hold open rod (19) as follows:
CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE HOLD OPEN ROD FALL INTO THE POSITION AWAY FROM THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HARDWARE.
     (a) Extend the hold open rod (19) until it is fully extended and locked.
     (b) Slowly lower the hold open rod (19) away from the right thrust reverser door (6).
CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN OR CLOSE THE LEFT OR RIGHT THRUST REVERSER DOOR UNTIL ALL OF THE LATCHES ARE OPEN. IF A LATCH STAYS ENGAGED, DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR MORE THAN 45 DEGREES FROM THE VERTICAL. DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR AND/OR PYLON CAN OCCUR.
   (5) Operate the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM until the DOS actuator (18) opens the right thrust reverser door (6) to a small distance more than 43 degrees. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (6) Close the valve on the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM to hold the right thrust reverser door (6) in position.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE HOLD-OPEN RODS ARE INSTALLED BEFORE YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE. FAILURE OF THE OPENING SYSTEM CAN CAUSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR TO CLOSE. IF THE HOLD-OPEN RODS ARE NOT INSTALLED, THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: DO NOT UNLOCK THE HOLD-OPEN ROD UNTIL YOU PREPARE TO CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR. UNLOCKING THE HOLD-OPEN ROD CAN CAUSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR TO CLOSE, WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (7) Adjust the length of the hold open rod (19) until it lock into the extended position. Make sure you can see the green band on the slide on the old open rod (19).
NOTE: When the green band is in view, the hold open rod (19) is correctly locked.
Retraction of the DOS actuator:
   (8) Attach the hold open rod (19) to the hold open rod support bracket (21) on the fan case.
   (9) Open the pressure relief valve on the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM to release pressure from the DOS actuator (18).
   (10) Lower the right thrust reverser door (6) on the hold open rod (19).
   (11) Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on hold open rod (19).
   (12) Close the valve on the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM. Then disconnect the flexible hose of the 636-3000-13GSE TR MANUAL HYDRAULIC OPENING SYSTEM from the quick disconnect fitting on the DOS actuator (14). Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
