3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-11-18-941-052-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the ground safety locks are installed on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (3) On panel 400VU:
  • Make sure that the landing-gear control-lever 6GA is in the DOWN position
  • Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
   (4) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is on the ground service connection to tell persons not to pressurize the:
  • Green and Yellow Hydraulic systems.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the aircraft is on jacks (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is below the applicable side-stay at zone 733(743).
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is in line with the trailing edge of the applicable wing, at zone 580(680).
   (4) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below zone 571(671).
   (5) Make sure that the isolation coupling of the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) is disconnected (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-001).
   (6) Make sure that the Yellow and Green hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
   (7) Make sure that the applicable hydraulic reservoirs are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (8) Make sure that the lockstay is temporarily safetied in position.

   (1) If you did not open the LGCIU circuit breakers, make sure that the electrical circuits are de-energized (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-11-18-420-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
F MLG Side-Stay - Circlip Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) If the MLG side-stay is replaced, install the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A) on the side-stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side-stay (6) located in the center hole of the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (2) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook. Tighten the cable.
   (3) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (5) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (6) Examine these components for corrosion, damage and wear:
  • The pins (20) and (19)
  • The bores of the MLG attachment lugs.
   (7) Examine the bushes in the side-stay bracket for corrosion, damage and wear.
     (a) If you find corrosion, damage and wear, SRM 572613 for wear dimensions (or damage) and repair procedures.
   (8) Lubricate these parts with Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-Landing Gear Wheel Bearing Lithium Thickened - (Material No.03GCB1) :
  • The pins (20) and (19)
  • The bushes in the side-stay bracket
  • The seal (32)
  • The bores of the MLG attachment lugs.
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).

B. Installation of the MLG Side-Stay
F MLG Side-Stay - Circlip Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE MLG SIDE-STAY. IT WEIGHS 62.5kg (137.5lb).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (1) Disengage the lower cardan (8) from the lower side-stay (6):
     (a) Remove the bolt (13), the tab washer (14), the end caps (7) and (15), the pin (16) and the washers (28).
   (2) Install the lower cardan (8) in the MLG attachment lugs.
   (3) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the lower cardan (8).
   (4) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the lower cardan (8).
   (5) Install the washer (9) and the nut (10). Tighten the nut (10) with your hand.
   (6) Torque the nut (10) as follows:
     (a) Use the 460005834 TUBE SPANNER and TORQUE the nut (10) to between 27.1 and 24.4 m.daN (199.85 and 179.94 lbf.ft ) T.
     (b) Loosen the nut (10).
     (c) Do steps (a) and (b) two more times.
     (d) Use the
460005834 TUBE SPANNER and TORQUE the nut (10) to between 20.3 and 16.2 m.daN (149.71 and 119.47 lbf.ft ) T.
   (7) Use the GAGE - FEELER to measure dimensions Y and Z as follows:
     (a) For in-service components:
  • The total clearance must be between 0.043 mm (0.0017 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.).
     (b) For repaired or overhauled components:
  • The total clearance must be between 0.043 mm (0.0017 in.) and 0.143 mm (0.0056 in.).
     (c) If the total clearance measured in steps (a) and (b) is not in the limit, do the steps that follow:
       1 Remove the nut (10), the washer (9) and the lower cardan (8).
       2 Measure dimensions T and V:
  • Dimension T must be between 137.917 mm (5.4298 in.) and 137.957 mm (5.4314 in.)
  • Dimension V must be between 138.0 mm (5.4331 in.) and 138.06 mm (5.4354 in.).
       3 If necessary, replace the lower cardan bushes CMM 321133 and/or the lower cardan sub-assembly CMM 321126.
     (d) If the total clearance measured in steps (a) and (b) is in the limit:
       1 Remove the nut (10), the washer (9) and the lower cardan (8).
   (8) Install the new
AIPC 32-11-05-02-140 SEAL (32) in the bush (33).
   (9) Lift the side-stay assembly (6) into position with the hoist and install the upper cardan (5) in the side-stay bracket.
   (10) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the upper cardan (5).
   (11) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the upper cardan (5).
   (12) Install the washer (1) and the nut (2). Tighten the nut (2) with your hand.
   (13) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (14) Install the lower cardan (8) in the MLG attachment lugs.
   (15) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the lower cardan (8).
   (16) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the lower cardan (8).
   (17) Install the washer (9) and the nut (10). Tighten the nut (10) with your hand.
   (18) Put the lower cardan sub-assembly and the washers (28) in position between the lugs of the lower side-stay assembly (6).
   (19) Install the pin (16).
   (20) Put the end caps (7) and (15) in position. Make sure that the lugs of the pin (16) engage in the cut-outs of the end caps (7) and (15).
   (21) Put the tab washer (14) on the bolt (13) and install the bolt (13).
   (22) Use the 460006442 SPANNER - HOLDING to hold the end cap (7) and TORQUE the bolt (13) to between 1.15 and 0.95 m.daN (101.77 and 84.07 lbf.in ) T.
   (23) Make sure that the assembled joint is free to move through its range.
   (24) Lock the tab washer (14).
   (25) Disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (26) Disconnect the strap and remove the
98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (27) Torque the nut (2) as follows:
     (a) Push the MLG as far as possible to the closed position. This will make sure that the upper cardan (5) is installed fully in the side-stay bracket.
     (b) Use the 460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (2) to between 27.1 and 24.4 m.daN (199.85 and 179.94 lbf.ft ) T.
     (c) Loosen the nut (2).
     (d) Do steps (a), (b) and (c) two more times.
     (e) Use the
460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (2) to between 20.3 and 16.2 m.daN (149.71 and 119.47 lbf.ft ) T.
   (28) Torque the nut (10) as follows:
     (a) Push the MLG as far as possible to the closed position. This will make sure that the lower cardan (8) is installed fully in the MLG leg assembly.
     (b) Use the
460005834 TUBE SPANNER and TORQUE the nut (10) to between 27.1 and 24.4 m.daN (199.85 and 179.94 lbf.ft ) T.
     (c) Loosen the nut (10).
     (d) Do steps (a), (b) and (c) two more times.
     (e) Use the
460005834 TUBE SPANNER and TORQUE the nut (10) to between 20.3 and 16.2 m.daN (149.71 and 119.47 lbf.ft ) T.
   (29) Use the GAGE - FEELER to measure dimensions W and X as follows:
     (a) For in-service components:
  • The total clearance must be between 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.).
     (b) For repaired or overhauled components:
  • The total clearance must be between 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) and 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.).
   (30) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating surfaces of:
  • The upper cardan (5), the lock washer (3) and the nut (2).
   (31) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the mating surfaces of:
  • The upper cardan (5), the lock washer (3) and the nut (2).
   (32) Align the key slot of the lock washer (3) with the chamfered slot on the nut (2) and install the lock washer (3). Make sure that the space between the lock washer (3) and the nut (2) is full of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) .
   (33) Align the circlip (4) with the key slot of the lock washer (3) and the chamfered slot of the nut (2).
   (34) Install the circlip (4) (in a counterclockwise direction) until the end of the circlip (4) engages in the key slot of the lock washer (3).
   (35) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating surfaces of:
  • The lower cardan (8), the lock washer (11) and the nut (10).
   (36) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the mating surfaces of:
  • The lower cardan (8), the lock washer (11) and the nut (10).
   (37) Align the key slot of the lock washer (11) with the chamfered slot on the nut (10) and install the lock washer (11). Make sure that the space between the lock washer (11) and the nut (10) is full of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) .
   (38) Release the lockstay and put it in position on the side-stay (6).
   (39) Put the washers (17) between the attachment of the lockstay and the center joint lugs of the side-stay (6).
   (40) Install the lockstay with:
  • The pin (19), with the head of the pin aft
  • The washers (18) and (27)
  • The nut (26).
   (41) TORQUE the nut (26) to between 2.26 and 1.5 m.daN (16.67 and 11.06 lbf.ft ) T.
   (42) Safety the nut (26) with the new
AIPC 32-11-18-01-080 COTTER PIN (25).
   (43) Put the washers (21) between the lockspring link and the lockstay attachment lug.
   (44) Install the pin (20), with the head of the pin aft, the washer (22) and the nut (24).
   (45) TORQUE the nut (24) to between 0.508 and 0.34 m.daN (44.96 and 30.09 lbf.in )
T.
   (46) Safety the nut (24) with the new
AIPC 32-11-18-01-030 COTTER PIN (23).
   (47) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from the electrical dressings and the proximity switches.
   (48) Install the lockstay actuating cylinder (
Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-400-001).
   (49) Install the lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-400-001).
   (50) Do the dimensional check of the proximity sensors on the side stay (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-73-200-001).
   (50) Do the detailed dimensional check of the MLG lockstay assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-00-220-003).
   (51) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The ends of the upper cardan (5) and the lower cardan (8)
  • The ends of the pins (19) and (20)
  • The nuts (2), (10), (24) and (26)
  • The washers (1), (9), (18), (22) and (27)
  • The locking washers (3) and (11).
     (a) Do not apply sealant between the washer (1) and the flanged bush of the side-stay assembly.
   (52) Lubricate the side-stay (6) through the greasers (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-001).

C. Preparation for Installation
F MLG Side-Stay - Circlip Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) If the MLG side-stay is replaced, install the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY on the side-stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side-stay (6) located in the center hole of the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (2) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook. Tighten the cable.
   (3) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (5) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (6) Examine these components for corrosion, damage and wear:
  • The pins (21) and (22)
  • The bores of the MLG attachment lugs.
   (7) Examine the bushes in the side-stay bracket for corrosion, damage and wear.

   (1) Disengage the lower cardan (14) from the lower side-stay (6) as follows:
     (a) Remove and discard the nut (12).
     (b) Remove the washer (11), the bolt (7), the end caps (8) and (10), the pin (9) and the washers (30).
   (2) Install the lower cardan (14) in the MLG attachment lugs.
   (3) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the lower cardan (14).
   (4) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the lower cardan (14).
   (5) Install the nut (15) and tighten with your hand.
   (6) Torque the nut (15) as follows:
     (a) Use the 460007272 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (15) to between 42 and 38 m.daN (309.73 and 280.24 lbf.ft ) T.
     (b) Loosen the nut (15).
     (c) Do steps (a) and (b) two more times.
     (d) Use the
460007272 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (15) to between 17.01 and 15.39 m.daN (125.44 and 113.50 lbf.ft ) T.
   (7) Use the GAGE - FEELER to measure dimensions Y and Z as follows:
     (a) For the in-service components:
  • Make sure that the total clearance is between 0.043 mm (0.0017 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.).
     (b) For the repaired or overhauled components:
  • Make sure that the total clearance is between 0.043 mm (0.0017 in.) and 0.143 mm (0.0056 in.).
     (c) If the total clearance measured in steps (a) and (b) is not in the limit, do the steps that follow:
       1 Remove the nut (15) and the lower cardan (14).
       2 Measure dimensions T and V:
  • Make sure that dimension T is between 137.917 mm (5.4298 in.) and 137.957 mm (5.4314 in.)
  • Make sure that dimension V is between 169.95 mm (6.6909 in.) and 170.05 mm (6.6949 in.).
       3 Replace the lower cardan bushes CMM 321212 and/or the lower cardan sub-assembly CMM 321214, as necessary.
     (d) If the total clearance measured in steps (a) and (b) is in the limit:
       1 Remove the nut (15) and the lower cardan (14).
   (8) Install the new
AIPC 32-11-05-06-145 SEAL (32) in the bush (33).
   (9) Lift the side-stay (6) into position with the hoist and install the upper cardan (5) in the side-stay bracket.
   (10) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the upper cardan (5).
   (11) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the upper cardan (5).
   (12) Install the washer (1) and the nut (2). Tighten the nut (2) with your hand.
   (13) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (14) Install the lower cardan (14) in the MLG attachment lugs.
   (15) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the lower cardan (14).
   (16) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the lower cardan (14).
   (17) Install the nut (15) and tighten with your hand.
   (18) Put the lower cardan sub-assembly and the washers (30) in position between the lugs of the lower side-stay (6).
   (19) Install the pin (9).
   (20) Install the end caps (8) and (10).
   (21) Install the bolt (7), the washer (11) and the new AIPC 32-11-18-02-280 NUT (12).
   (22) TORQUE the nut (12) to between 3.0 and 2.5 m.daN (22.12 and 18.44 lbf.ft )
T.
   (23) Safety the nut (12) with the new
AIPC 32-11-18-02-270 COTTER PIN (13).
   (24) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.
06AAC5) to the head of the bolt (7) and the nut (12).
   (25) Release the lockstay from the side-stay (6) and extend the lockstay actuator to hold the lockstay in the open position.
   (26) Disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (27) Disconnect the strap and remove the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (28) Torque the nut (2) as follows:
     (a) Push the MLG as far as possible to the closed position.
NOTE: This will make sure that the upper cardan (5) is installed fully in the side-stay bracket.
     (b) Use the 460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (2) to between 42 and 38 m.daN (309.73 and 280.24 lbf.ft ) T.
     (c) Loosen the nut (2).
     (d) Do steps (a), (b) and (c) two more times.
     (e) Use the
460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (2) to between 17.01 and 15.39 m.daN (125.44 and 113.50 lbf.ft ) T.
   (29) Torque the nut (15) as follows:
     (a) Push the MLG as far as possible to the closed position.
NOTE: This will make sure that the lower cardan (14) is installed fully in the MLG leg assembly.
     (b) Use the
460007272 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (15) to between 42 and 38 m.daN (309.73 and 280.24 lbf.ft ) T.
     (c) Loosen the nut (15).
     (d) Do steps (a), (b) and (c) two more times.
     (e) Use the
460007272 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (15) to between 17.01 and 15.39 m.daN (125.44 and 113.50 lbf.ft ) T.
   (30) Use the GAGE - FEELER to measure dimensions W and X as follows:
     (a) For the in-service components:
  • Make sure that the total clearance is between 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.).
     (b) For the repaired or overhauled components:
  • Make sure that the total clearance is between 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) and 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.).
   (31) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating surfaces of:
  • The upper cardan (5), the lock washer (3) and the nut (2).
   (32) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the mating surfaces of the upper cardan (5), the lock washer (3) and the nut (2).
   (33) Align the key slot of the lock washer (3) with the chamfered slot on the nut (2). If necessary, use the 460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (2) to between 36.00 and 15.39 m.daN (265.49 and 113.50 lbf.ft ) T.
   (34) Install the lock washer (3). Make sure that the space between the lock washer (3) and the nut (2) is full of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.
06LDG2) .
   (35) Align the circlip (4) with the key slot of the lock washer (3) and the chamfered slot of the nut (2).
   (36) Install the circlip (4) (in a counterclockwise direction) until the end of the circlip (4) engages in the key slot of the lock washer (3).
   (37) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating surfaces of:
  • The lower cardan (14), the lock washer (16) and the nut (15).
   (38) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the mating surfaces of the lower cardan (14), the lock washer (16) and the nut (15).
   (39) Align the key slot of the lock washer (16) with the chamfered slot on the nut (15) and install the lock washer (16). Make sure that the space between the lock washer (16) and the nut (15) is full of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) .
   (40) Install the washers (17) and the bolts (18). TORQUE the bolts (18) to between 1.1 and 0.9 m.daN (97.35 and 79.65 lbf.in ) T.
   (41) Safety the bolts (18) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (42) Release the lockstay and put it in position on the side-stay (6).
   (43) Put the washers (19) between the attachment of the lockstay and the center joint lugs of the side-stay (6).
   (44) Install the lockstay with:
  • The pin (21), with the head of the pin aft
  • The washers (20) and (29)
  • The nut (28).
   (45) TORQUE the nut (28) to between 4.2 and 3.6 m.daN (30.97 and 26.55 lbf.ft )
T.
   (46) Safety the nut (28) with the new
AIPC 32-11-18-01-080 COTTER PIN (27).
   (47) Put the washers (23) between the lockspring link and the lockstay attachment lug.
   (48) Install the pin (22), with the head of the pin aft, the washer (24) and the nut (26).
   (49) TORQUE the nut (26) to between 0.95 and 0.8 m.daN (84.07 and 70.80 lbf.in )
T.
   (50) Safety the nut (26) with the new
AIPC 32-11-18-01-030 COTTER PIN (25).
   (50) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (51) Install the lockstay actuating cylinder (
Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-400-001).
   (52) Install the lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-400-001).
   (53) Do the dimensional check of the proximity sensors on the side-stay (6) (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-73-200-001).
   (54) Do the detailed dimensional check of the MLG lockstay assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-00-220-003).
   (55) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The ends of the upper cardan (5) and the lower cardan (14)
  • The ends of the pins (21) and (22)
  • The ends of the bolts (18)
  • The nuts (2), (15), (26) and (28)
  • The washers (1), (17), (20), (24) and (29)
  • The lock washers (3) and (16).
     (a) Do not apply sealant between the washer (1) and the flanged bush of the side-stay (6).
   (56) Lubricate the side-stay (6) through the greasers (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-001).

E. Preparation for Installation
F MLG Side-Stay - Circlip Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) If the MLG side-stay is replaced, install the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A) on the side-stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side-stay (6) located in the center hole of the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (2) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook. Tighten the cable.
   (3) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (5) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (6) Examine these components for corrosion, damage and wear:
  • The pins (22) and (23)
  • The bores of the MLG attachment lugs.
   (7) Examine the bushes in the side-stay bracket for corrosion, damage and wear.
     (a) If you find corrosion, damage and wear, SRM 572613 for wear dimensions (or damage) and repair procedures.

   (3) Use the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the lower cardan (12).
   (4) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the lower cardan (12).
   (5) Install the washer (13) and the nut (14). Tighten the nut (14) with your hand.
   (6) Torque the nut (14) as follows:
     (a) Use the 460005834 TUBE SPANNER and TORQUE the nut (14) to between 271 and 244 m.N (199.85 and 179.94 lbf.ft ) T.
     (b) Loosen the nut (14).
     (c) Do steps (a) and (b) two more times.
     (d) Use the
460005834 TUBE SPANNER and TORQUE the nut (14) to between 203 and 162 m.N (149.71 and 119.47 lbf.ft ) T.
   (7) Use the GAGE - FEELER to measure dimensions Y and Z as follows:
     (a) For in-service components:
  • The total clearance must be between 0.043 mm (0.0017 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.).
     (b) For repaired or overhauled components:
  • The total clearance must be between 0.043 mm (0.0017 in.) and 0.143 mm (0.0056 in.).
     (c) If the total clearance measured in steps (a) and (b) is not in the limit, do as follows:
       1 Remove the nut (14), the washer (13) and the lower cardan (12).
       2 Measure dimensions T and V:
  • Dimension T must be between 137.917 mm (5.4298 in.) and 137.957 mm (5.4314 in.)
  • Dimension V must be between 138.0 mm (5.4331 in.) and 138.06 mm (5.4354 in.).
       3 Replace the lower cardan bushes CMM 321133 and/or the lower cardan sub-assembly CMM 321126, as necessary.
     (d) If the total clearance measured in steps (a) and (b) is in the limit:
       1 Re0move the nut (14), the washer (13) and the lower cardan (12).
   (8) Install the new
AIPC 32-11-05-02-140 SEAL (32) in the bush (33).
   (9) Lift the side-stay assembly (6) into position with the hoist and install the upper cardan (5) in the side-stay bracket.
   (10) Use the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the upper cardan (5).
   (11) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the upper cardan (5).
   (12) Install the washer (1) and the nut (2). Tighten the nut (2) with your hand.
   (13) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (14) Install the lower cardan (12) in the MLG attachment lugs.
   (15) Use the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the threads of the lower cardan (12).
   (16) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of the lower cardan (12).
   (17) Install the washer (13) and the nut (14). Tighten the nut (14) with your hand.
   (18) Put the lower cardan sub-assembly and the washers (11) in position between the lugs of the lower side-stay assembly (6).
   (19) Engage the lower cardan (12) from the lower side-stay (6) as follows:
     (a) Install the pin (19).
     (b) Install the end caps (10) and (18).
     (c) Install the bolt (17), the washer (9) and the new AIPC 32-11-18-02-280 NUT (8).
     (d) TORQUE the bolt (17) to between 30 and 25 m.N (22.12 and 18.44 lbf.ft )
T.
     (e) Make sure that the assembled joint is free to move through its range.
     (f) Safety the bolt (17) and the nut (8) with the new
AIPC 32-11-18-02-270 COTTER PIN (7).
   (20) Disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (21) Disconnect the strap and remove the
98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (22) Torque the nut (2) as follows:
     (a) Push the MLG as far as possible to the closed position. This will make sure that the upper cardan (5) is installed fully in the side-stay bracket.
     (b) Use the 460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (2) to between 271 and 244 m.N (199.85 and 179.94 lbf.ft ) T.
     (c) Loosen the nut (2).
     (d) Do steps (a), (b) and (c) two more times.
     (e) Use the
460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE and TORQUE the nut (2) to between 203 and 162 m.N (149.71 and 119.47 lbf.ft ) T.
   (23) Torque the nut (14) as follows:
     (a) Push the MLG as far as possible to the closed position. This will make sure that the lower cardan (12) is installed fully in the MLG leg assembly.
     (b) Use the
460005834 TUBE SPANNER and TORQUE the nut (14) to between 271 and 244 m.N (199.85 and 179.94 lbf.ft ) T.
     (c) Loosen the nut (14).
     (d) Do steps (a), (b) and (c) two more times.
     (e) Use the
460005834 TUBE SPANNER and TORQUE the nut (14) to between 203 and 162 m.N (149.71 and 119.47 lbf.ft ) T.
   (24) Use the GAGE - FEELER to measure dimensions W and X as follows:
     (a) For in-service components:
  • The total clearance must be between 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.).
     (b) For repaired or overhauled components:
  • The total clearance must be between 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) and 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.).
   (25) Use the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.

  • The upper cardan (5), the lock washer (3) and the nut (2).
   (26) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the mating surfaces of:
  • The upper cardan (5), the lock washer (3) and the nut (2).
   (27) Align the key slot of the lock washer (3) with the chamfered slot on the nut (2).
   (28) Install the lock washer (3). Make sure that the space between the lock washer (3) and the nut (2) is full of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) .
   (29) Align the circlip (4) with the key slot of the lock washer (3) and the chamfered slot of the nut (2).
   (30) Install the circlip (4) (in a counterclockwise direction) until the end of the circlip (4) engages in the key slot of the lock washer (3).
   (31) Use the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating surfaces of:
  • The lower cardan (12), the lock washer (15) and the nut (14).
   (32) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the mating surfaces of:
  • The lower cardan (12), the lock washer (15) and the nut (14).
   (33) Align the key slot of the lock washer (15) with the chamfered slot on the nut (14) and install the lock washer (15). Make sure that the space between the lock washer (15) and the nut (14) is full of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) .
   (34) Release the lockstay and put it in position on the side-stay (6).
   (35) Put the washers (20) between the attachment of the lockstay and the center joint lugs of the side-stay (6).
   (36) Install the lockstay with:
  • The pin (22), with the head of the pin aft
  • The washers (21) and (30)
  • The nut (28).
   (37) TORQUE the nut (28) to between 42 and 36 m.N (30.97 and 26.55 lbf.ft ) T.
   (38) Safety the nut (28) with the new
AIPC 32-11-18-01-080 COTTER PIN (29).
   (39) Put the washers (24) between the lockspring link and the lockstay attachment lug.
   (40) Install the pin (23), with the head of the pin aft, the washer (25) and the nut (26).
   (41) TORQUE the nut (26) to between 9.5 and 8 m.N (84.07 and 70.80 lbf.in )
T.
   (42) Safety the nut (26) with the new
AIPC 32-11-18-01-030 COTTER PIN (27).
   (43) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from the electrical dressings and the proximity switches.
   (44) Install the lockstay actuating cylinder (
Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-400-001).
   (45) Install the lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-400-001).
   (46) Do the dimensional check of the proximity sensors on the side stay (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-73-200-001).
   (47) Do the detailed dimensional check of the MLG lockstay assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-00-220-003).
   (48) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The ends of the upper cardan (5) and the lower cardan (12)
  • The ends of the pins (22) and (23)
  • The nuts (2), (14), (26) and (28)
  • The washers (1), (13), (21), (25) and (30)
  • The lock washers (3) and (15).
     (a) Do not apply sealant between the washer (1) and the flanged bush of the side-stay assembly.
   (49) Lubricate the side-stay (6) through the greasers (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-001).

     (b) Torque the nuts (45) and (46) as follows:
       1 TORQUE the nuts (45) and (46) to between 5 and 3 m.N (44.25 and 26.55 lbf.in ) T.
       2 If necessary, loosen the nuts (45) and (46) until you can align the holes for the cotter pins (47) and (48).
       3 To make sure that the nuts (45) and (46) are sufficiently tight:
  • Use the 0.05 MM (0.0020 IN.) GAGE - FEELER and make sure that it does not go in the space between the nuts (45) and (46) and the bridge plates (43) and (44).
     (c) Safety the nut (45) with the new
AIPC 57-51-05-67-015 COTTER PIN (47) or AIPC 57-51-85-67-020 COTTER PIN (47).
     (d) Safety the nut (46) with the new
AIPC 57-51-05-67-010 COTTER PIN (48) or AIPC 57-51-85-67-010 COTTER PIN (48).
   (2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
