  • The L/G doors close and lock
  • The ECAM lower DU shows the L/G is up and locked and the L/G doors are closed and locked
  • The three green triangles on the L/G annunciator panel 402VU go off.
NOTE: During the extension and the retraction of the L/G:
  • The red UNLK legend comes on when the L/G is not in the same position as the selector lever
  • The ECAM lower DU shows the change in the L/G position and the amber L/G CTL indication.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-33-00-720-050-A
A. Functional Check of the Free-Fall Extension
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE LANDING GEAR ARE CLEAR.
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE GRAVITY GEAR EXTENSION HANDLE MORE THAN 3 FULL TURNS. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FREE FALL EXTENSION SYSTEM.
   (1) L/G Free-Fall Extension Check:
     (a) Set the ADIRU 1 or 3 to ON.
     (b) On panel 20VU, set the applicable IR1 and IR3 selector switch to the ATT position.
     (c) On the panel 110VU, move the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle from the folded position.
     (d) Connect a SPRING BALANCE 5 DAN (12 LBF) to the end of the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle.
NOTE: When you use the spring balance, it must:
  • Be pulled at 90 DEG to the radius of the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle at a rate of one full turn each 5 seconds
  • Show a force of between 0.5 daN (1.12 lbf) and 2 daN (4.5 lbf).
NOTE: During the procedure, record the time taken for each L/G to extend and downlock. This is the time taken between release from the uplock to when the lockstay goes fully over-center. All three L/G's operate at the same time.
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE GRAVITY GEAR EXTENSION HANDLE FOR A THIRD TIME UNTIL ALL THE LANDING GEAR DOORS ARE FULLY OPEN.
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE GRAVITY GEAR EXTENSION HANDLE FOR A THIRD TIME UNTIL ALL THE LANDING GEAR DOORS ARE FULLY OPEN.
   (2) Do this check:
ACTION
RESULT
1.On panel 110VU:
On the aircraft:

  • turn the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle clockwise two full turns

  • if the L/G doors do not fully open, help them to fully open with your hand.

NOTE: There are no aerodynamic effects on the doors during this test. This is why the doors do not always fully open.
  • at the end of the second turn the L/G doors have released and started to open.
  • make sure that all the L/G doors are fully open

  • wait for 30 seconds

On the ECAM upper DU, after 30 seconds these messages will come into view:
L/G DOOR NOT CLOSED
MAX SPEED 250/.60.
  • turn the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle clockwise one full turn (to release each leg from its uplock)

NOTE: Before you turn the GRAVITY GEAR EXT handle a third time:
  • make sure that the travel range of the landing gear is clear.

  • at the end of the third turn the L/G has unlocked and started to extend.

  • make sure that the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle will not turn more than 3 turns. Do not use a force of more than 2 daN (4.5 lbf) when you turn the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle.

On the aircraft:
  • record the time taken for each of the L/G to extend.

NOTE: You must be on the ground when you monitor these times. These times are measured from when the L/G legs start to move, to the end of the downlock link movement.

On the aircraft:
  • the time taken must be 11.5 +/- 5 seconds for the NLG and 23 +/- 7 seconds for the MLG.

On panel 402VU:
  • the three green triangles on the L/G annunciator panel come into view.

On the ECAM lower DU, after 30 seconds:
  • six green triangles come into view
  • the three door symbols will show doors open (white) or doors in transit (amber).
