LUBRICATION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-11-19-941-055-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate:
  • the landing gear
  • the MLG doors.
   (3) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in the cockpit to tell persons not to pressurize the Green hydraulic system.
   (4) Make sure that the ground safety locks are on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the applicable MLG door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
   (2) Make sure that the GROUND LOCK SLEEVE is installed on the applicable MLG door actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-002).
   (3) Make sure that that the flight configurations were obeyed (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001).
   (4) Make sure that the access platform is in position below the applicable zone 731(741).

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-11-19-560-051-A
A. Preparation for a Replacement Component
   (1) If you are to install new lock springs (6) and (8):
     (a) Install the new springs (6) and (8) into the lock spring guide block.
     (b) Install the lock spring guide block assembly into the 460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-481-001).
Subtask 32-11-19-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (2) Examine the pins (2) and (15) and the bores of the attachment lugs for damage, cracks and corrosion.
   (3) Lubricate the pins (2) and (15), the bores of the attachment lugs and the bushes of the lock spring eye-ends with:
  • Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-Landing Gear Wheel Bearing Lithium Thickened - (Material No.03GCB1) .
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (4) Install the lock springs (6) and (8) through the lock spring guide block. Make sure that:
  • The fixed eye-ends are to the side-stay attachment lugs
  • The free to turn eye-ends are to the center pivot attachment lugs.
Subtask 32-11-19-420-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Installation of the MLG Lock Springs
   (1) Align the lock spring link with the attachment lugs, at the center-pivot attachment lugs, and install the washers (14).
   (2) Make sure the head of the pin (15) points AFT and install these items together:
   (3) TORQUE the nut (19) to between 0.508 and 0.34 m.daN (44.96 and 30.09 lbf.in ) T and install a new AIPC 32-11-18-01-140 COTTER PIN (20).
   (4) Install the
460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-481-001).
   (5) Install the location pin (5) through the eye-ends of the lock springs (6) and (8). Turn the location pin (5) to align the lock spring eye-ends. Remove the location pin (5).
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU TENSION THE LOCKSPRINGS.
     (a) Adjust the 460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY with the driving nut (7). Align the eye-end of the lock springs (6) and (8) with the bores of the side-stay attachment lugs.
   (6) Install these items together:
  • The pin (9)
  • The washer (10)
  • The lock spring (8)
  • The spacer (3)
  • The lock spring (6)
  • The washer (4).
   (7) Attach the bullet (1) (part of the Spring Expander - MLG Side Stay) to the pin (2). Make sure the head of the pin (2) points AFT and install the pin (2).
NOTE: If the spring expander tool is not correctly adjusted, it will not be possible to install the pin (2) easily.
NOTE: The pin (2) will push out the pin (9).
   (8) Remove the bullet (1).
   (9) Install the washer (11) and the new AIPC 32-11-18-02-100 NUT (12).
   (10) TORQUE the nut (12) to between 0.508 and 0.34 m.daN (44.96 and 30.09 lbf.in )
T and install a new AIPC 32-11-18-02-090 COTTER PIN (13).
   (11) Remove the
460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-081-001).
   (12) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-Landing Gear Wheel Bearing Lithium Thickened - (Material No.03GCB1) to the lock springs (6) and (8).
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (13) Application of sealants:
     (a) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The ends of the pins (2) and (15)
  • The nuts (12) and (19)
  • The washers (11) and (18).

D. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (2) Examine the pins (2) and (15) and the bores of the attachment lugs for damage, cracks and corrosion.
   (3) Lubricate the items that follow with Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) :
  • The pins (2) and (15)
  • The bores of the attachment lugs
  • The bushes of the lock spring eye-ends.
   (4) Install the lock springs (6) and (8) through the lock spring guide block. Make sure that:
  • The fixed eye-ends are to the side-stay attachment lugs
  • The free to turn eye-ends are to the center-pivot attachment lugs.
Subtask 32-11-19-420-054-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
E. Installation of the MLG Lock Springs
   (1) Put the lock springs (6) and (8) in the 460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY. Make sure that the eye-ends that are free to turn are in the direction of the center-pivot attachment lugs.
   (2) Align the lock spring link with the attachment lugs, at the center-pivot attachment lugs, and install the washers (14).
   (3) Make sure the head of the pin (15) points AFT and install these items together:
   (4) TORQUE the nut (19) to between 0.95 and 0.8 m.daN (84.07 and 70.80 lbf.in ) T and install the new AIPC 32-11-18-01-140 COTTER PIN (20) or AIPC 32-11-85-97-140 COTTER-PIN (20).
   (5) Install the
460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-481-001).
   (6) Do the steps that follow:
     (a) Install the location pin (5) through the eye-ends of the lock springs (6) and (8).
     (b) Turn the location pin (5) to align the lock spring eye-ends.
     (c) Remove the location pin (5).
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU TENSION THE LOCKSPRINGS.
     (d) Adjust the 460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY with the driving nut (7).
     (e) Align the eye-end of the lock springs (6) and (8) with the bores of the side-stay attachment lugs.
   (7) Install these items together:
  • The pin (9)
  • The washer (10)
  • The lock spring (8)
  • The spacer (3)
  • The lock spring (6)
  • The washer (4).
   (8) Attach the bullet (1) (part of the 460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY) to the pin (2). Make sure the head of the pin (2) points AFT and install the pin (2).
NOTE: If the 460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY is not correctly adjusted, it will not be possible to install the pin (2) easily.
NOTE: The pin (2) will push out the pin (9).
   (9) Remove the bullet (1).
   (10) Install the washer (11) and the new AIPC 32-11-18-02-100 NUT (12) or AIPC 32-11-85-98-100 NUT (12).
   (11) TORQUE the nut (12) to between 0.51 and 0.34 m.daN (45.13 and 30.09 lbf.in )
T and install the new AIPC 32-11-18-02-090 COTTER PIN (13) or AIPC 32-11-85-98-090 COTTER PIN (13).
   (12) Remove the
460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY, (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-081-001).
   (13) Application of sealants:
     (a) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Density Multi Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06ACA1) to:
  • The ends of the pins (2) and (15)
  • The nuts (12) and (19)
  • The washers (11) and (18).
     (b) Apply Coating_- Flexible Structure (Material No.04QAB2) to:
  • The ends of the pins (2) and (15)
  • The nuts (12) and (19)
  • The washers (11) and (18).

   (1) Connect the isolation coupling of the PTU (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-002).
   (2) If you did the flight configuration precautions, put the aircraft back to the ground configuration (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-002).

H. Test
   (1) Do a functional test of the MLG Normal Extension and Retraction system (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-00-720-002).
   (2) Do a functional check of the MLG Free-Fall Extension (Ref. AMM TASK 32-33-00-720-001).

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the applicable MLG door (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).

B. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the SAFETY BARRIER(S).
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
