WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 79-20-00-941-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):

   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

C. Deactivate the thrust reverser hydraulic control unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

4. Procedure
Subtask 79-20-00-210-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Examination of the oil on the external gearbox:
   (1) Examine the oil pressure tubes on the external gearbox (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-48-200-010).
   (2) Examine the oil scavenge tubes on the external gearbox (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-48-200-010).

B. Examination of the oil on the engine:
   (1) Examine the oil pressure tubes on the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-49-200-010).
   (2) Examine the oil scavenge tubes on the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-49-200-010).
Subtask 79-20-00-210-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Examine the Air Cooled Oil Cooler (ACOC). Use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION, if necessary
   (1) Examine the ACOC for security of attachment.
   (2) If loose attachment is found, replace the ACOC attachment bolts as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-400-010).
   (3) Examine the ACOC tube connections for leaks.
   (4) If leaks are found, replace the tube connection packings or the ACOC as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-400-010).
   (5) Examine the ACOC for damage such as dents, cracks and chafed areas (Ref. AMM TASK 70-52-11-918-010).
   (6) If damage is found, replace the ACOC (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-400-010).
   (7) Examine the ACOC for signs of wetting or leakage.
   (8) If oil is only wetting (characterized by a moist surface without drip formation) the surface of the ACOC, the unit can continue to operate for 10 cycles before it must be replaced (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-400-010).
   (9) If the oil is leaking (characterized by the formation of a drop or expectancy of a drop that will detach during engine operation), replace the unit (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-42-400-010).

D. Examine the Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC). Use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION, if necessary
   (1) Examine the FCOC for security of attachment.
   (2) If loose attachment is found, replace the FCOC attachment bolts as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-400-010).
   (3) Examine the FCOC tube connections for leaks.
   (4) If leaks are found, replace the tube connection packings or the FCOC as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-400-010).
   (5) Examine the FCOC for damage such as dents, cracks and chafed areas (Ref. AMM TASK 70-52-11-918-010).
   (6) If damage is found, replace the FCOC (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-400-010).
   (7) Examine the FCOC atmospheric vent hole for signs of oil or fuel wetting or leaking.
NOTE: Oil or fuel in this location is indicative of either internal cracking between the fuel and oil seals or degradation of the seals.
   (8) If the fluid is only wetting (characterized by a moist surface without drip formation) the surface of the FCOC, the unit can continue operation for 10 cycles before replacement (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-400-010).
   (9) If the fluid is leaking (characterized by the formation of a drop or expectancy of a drop that will detach during engine operation), replace the unit (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-400-010).

E. Examine the oil pressure pump and filter assembly. Use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION if necessary
   (1) Examine the pump and filter assembly for security of attachment.
   (2) If loose attachment is found, replace the pump attachment nuts as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-41-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-41-400-010).
   (3) Examine the pump mounting flange and the tube connection for leaks.
   (4) If leaks are found, replace the packings as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-41-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-41-400-010).
   (5) Examine the pump and filter assembly for damage such as dents, cracks and chafed areas (Ref. AMM TASK 70-52-11-918-010).
   (6) If damage is found, replace the pump and filter assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-41-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-41-400-010).

F. Examine the No.4 bearing compartment scavenge valve. Use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION, if necessary
   (1) Examine scavenge valve for security of attachment.
   (2) If loose attachment is found, replace the scavenge valve attachment bolts (Ref. AMM TASK 79-23-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-23-51-400-010).
   (3) Examine the scavenge valve and the vent tube connection for leaks.
   (4) If leaks are found, replace the packing or do a check on the tube connection for loss of torque, as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-23-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-23-51-400-010).
   (5) Examine the scavenge valve for damage such as dents, cracks and chafed areas (Ref. AMM TASK 70-52-11-918-010).
   (6) If damage is found, replace the scavenge valve (Ref. AMM TASK 79-23-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-23-51-400-010).

G. Examine the scavenge oil pump. Use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION if necessary
   (1) Examine the scavenge pump for security of attachment.
   (2) If loose attachment is found, replace the pump attachment nuts as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-41-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-41-400-010).
   (3) Examine the scavenge pump mounting flange and the tube connections for leaks.
   (4) If leaks are found, replace the packings as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-41-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-41-400-010).
   (5) Examine the scavenge pump for damage such as dents, cracks and chafed areas (Ref. AMM TASK 70-52-11-918-010).
   (6) If damage is found, replace the scavenge pump (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-41-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-41-400-010).

H. Examine the scavenge oil filter assembly. Use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION, if necessary
   (1) Examine the scavenge filter assembly for security of attachment.
   (2) If loose attachment is found, replace the filter assembly attachment bolts as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-43-400-010).
   (3) Examine the filter housing and the tube connections for leaks.
   (4) If leaks are found, replace the packings as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-43-000-010) (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-43-400-010), (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-44-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-44-400-010).
   (5) Examine the scavenge filter assembly for damage such as dents, cracks and chafed areas (Ref. AMM TASK 70-52-11-918-010).
   (6) If damage is found, replace the scavenge filter assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-43-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-43-400-010).
Subtask 79-20-00-210-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
I. Examine the Magnetic Chip Detectors (MCD) and MCD housings. Use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION, if necessary
   (1) Examine the MCDs and the MCD housings for leaks.
   (2) If leaks are found, replace the seal rings as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-45-000-010) (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-45-400-010), (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-45-000-011) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-45-400-011).

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the thrust reverser halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-410-010):
