Removal of the No. 4 Bearing Compartment Scavenge Valve
WARNING:
DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
- FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
- GET MEDICAL AID.
WARNING:
DO NOT TOUCH THE FUEL OR OIL SYSTEM COMPONENTS FOR A SHORT TIME AFTER THE ENGINE IS SHUT DOWN. THE ENGINE COMPONENTS STAY HOT FOR SOME TIME AND CAN CAUSE INJURY.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK IN TO THE OIL SYSTEM.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):

Subtask 79-23-51-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove the Bearing Compartment Scavenge Valve.
(1) Disconnect the air tube and the electrical connector from the valve.
(a) Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the valve.
(2) Remove the wire following.
(3) Disconnect the oil tubes.
(a) Remove the wire and disconnect the oil tube (15) from the oil vent tube (2).
(b) Loosen the bolts and the nuts of the clips around the oil vent tube to make the oil vent tube movable.
(c) Remove the wire which safeties the oil tube (18) to the oil vent tube (2).
(d) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position to catch the drained oil.
(e) Disconnect the oil tube (18) from the oil vent tube (2) with the IAE1R18003 WRENCH, and let the oil drain in to the container.
(f) Remove the wire and disconnect the oil vent tube (2) from the valve.
(g) Remove the container and discard the drained oil.
(4) Remove the No. 4 bearing compartment scavenge valve
(a) Remove the bolts (4), remove the valve, and drain the oil in to the container.
(5) Install COVER - PROTECTION to all the exposed openings.
(1) Disconnect the air tube and the electrical connector from the valve.
(a) Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the valve.
(2) Remove the wire following.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT LOOSEN THE BOLT WHEN YOU REMOVE THE WIRE.
(a) Remove the wire and disconnect the air tube (1) from the valve. (3) Disconnect the oil tubes.
(a) Remove the wire and disconnect the oil tube (15) from the oil vent tube (2).
(b) Loosen the bolts and the nuts of the clips around the oil vent tube to make the oil vent tube movable.
(c) Remove the wire which safeties the oil tube (18) to the oil vent tube (2).
(d) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position to catch the drained oil.
(e) Disconnect the oil tube (18) from the oil vent tube (2) with the IAE1R18003 WRENCH, and let the oil drain in to the container.
(f) Remove the wire and disconnect the oil vent tube (2) from the valve.
(g) Remove the container and discard the drained oil.
(4) Remove the No. 4 bearing compartment scavenge valve
(a) Remove the bolts (4), remove the valve, and drain the oil in to the container.
NOTE: Hold the weight of the valve before the bolts are released.
(b) Remove the sealing ring (5) from the valve and discard it. (5) Install COVER - PROTECTION to all the exposed openings.
