Removal of the Air Cooled Oil Cooler (ACOC)
WARNING:
DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL DURING REMOVAL INSTALLATION OF THE AIR COOLED OIL COOLER. IT WEIGHS 12.3lb (5.58kg).
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH THE OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK IN TO THE OIL SYSTEM.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 79-21-42-010-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.

B. Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):

Subtask 79-21-42-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Air Cooled Oil Cooler (ACOC) modulating valve:
(1) Remove the bolts (29) and (30), washer (31) and nuts (32) and (33) from the bracket (28).
(2) Remove the ACOC modulating valve (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-51-000-010).
Subtask 79-21-42-680-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the bolts (29) and (30), washer (31) and nuts (32) and (33) from the bracket (28).
(2) Remove the ACOC modulating valve (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-51-000-010).
B. Drain the air cooled oil cooler
(1) Remove the lockwire (12) from the drain plug (13).
(2) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) to catch the oil which drains from the ACOC.
(3) Remove the drain plug (13) and seal ring (11) from the air cooled oil cooler.
(4) Let the oil drain in to the container.
(5) Discard the seal ring (11).
(6) Remove the container and discard the drained oil.
Subtask 79-21-42-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the lockwire (12) from the drain plug (13).
(2) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) to catch the oil which drains from the ACOC.
(3) Remove the drain plug (13) and seal ring (11) from the air cooled oil cooler.
(4) Let the oil drain in to the container.
(5) Discard the seal ring (11).
(6) Remove the container and discard the drained oil.
C. Removal of the ACOC:
(1) Remove the tubes (3) and (7).
(a) Remove the bolt (14), washer (15), clip (16) and nut (22) from the clip position.
(b) Remove the bolt (19), washer (21) and nut (20) from the clip position.
(c) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position to collect the oil which drains from the tubes (3) and (7).
(d) Use the IAE1R18002 WRENCH to disconnect the tube (3) from the oil tube (18).
(e) Use the IAE1R18002 WRENCH to disconnect the oil tube (17) from the tube (7).
(f) Remove the bolts (4) and (6) that attach the tubes (3) and (7) to the ACOC.
(g) Remove the tubes (3) and (7) from the ACOC.
(h) Remove and discard the two sealing rings (8).
(i) Remove the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) and discard the drained oil.
(2) Remove the ACOC oil temperature-thermocouple (Ref. AMM TASK 79-32-15-000-010).
(5) Hold the weight of the ACOC to remove the ten remaining bolts (10) and the ten remaining washers (9).
(6) Remove the ACOC.
(7) Install the COVER - BLANKING to all exposed openings.
(1) Remove the tubes (3) and (7).
(a) Remove the bolt (14), washer (15), clip (16) and nut (22) from the clip position.
(b) Remove the bolt (19), washer (21) and nut (20) from the clip position.
(c) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position to collect the oil which drains from the tubes (3) and (7).
(d) Use the IAE1R18002 WRENCH to disconnect the tube (3) from the oil tube (18).
(e) Use the IAE1R18002 WRENCH to disconnect the oil tube (17) from the tube (7).
(f) Remove the bolts (4) and (6) that attach the tubes (3) and (7) to the ACOC.
(g) Remove the tubes (3) and (7) from the ACOC.
(h) Remove and discard the two sealing rings (8).
(i) Remove the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) and discard the drained oil.
(2) Remove the ACOC oil temperature-thermocouple (Ref. AMM TASK 79-32-15-000-010).
NOTE: If you have to install again the same ACOC, it is not necessary to remove the thermocouple. Disconnect the electrical connector (5) from the ACOC.
(3) Remove the two bolts (1) and the two washers (2) from the bracket (23).NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the harness, wire bundle, and clips from the brackets during the removal and the installation of the ACOC.
(4) Remove the 12 bolts (10) and the 12 washers (9) from the brackets (24), (25), (26) and (27).(5) Hold the weight of the ACOC to remove the ten remaining bolts (10) and the ten remaining washers (9).
(6) Remove the ACOC.
(7) Install the COVER - BLANKING to all exposed openings.
