Removal of the Scavenge Oil Pump


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 79-22-41-941-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 79-22-41-941-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the scavenge oil pump to catch the drained oil.

B. Drain the oil system (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-010).

C. Remove the magnetic chip detector
   (1) Remove the magnetic chip detector (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-45-000-010).
   (2) Remove the magnetic chip detector housing (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-45-000-011).

D. Remove the scavenge oil filter housing assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 79-22-43-000-010).

E. Remove the two scavenge oil tubes (2) and (18) from the scavenge oil pump
   (1) Remove the scavenge oil tube (2).
     (a) Remove the three bolts (19) which attach the tube (2) to the scavenge oil pump.
     (b) Remove the three bolts (3) which attach the tube (2) to the LP compressor/intermediate case.
     (c) Drain the oil into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
     (d) Remove the tube (2).
     (e) Remove and discard the rings (1) and (4).
   (2) Remove the scavenge oil tube (18).
     (a) Remove the three bolts (5) and washer (6) which attach the tube (18) to the scavenge oil pump.
     (b) Drain the oil into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
     (c) Remove the tube (18).
     (d) Remove and discard the packing (17).

F. Remove the scavenge oil tube (14) from the scavenge oil pump and the scavenge oil tube (7).
F Scavenge Oil Tube ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

PRE SBE 79-0056

   (1) Disconnect the scavenge oil tube (14) from the scavenge oil tube (7). Use the IAE1R18001 WRENCH.
   (2) Remove the bolt (8), washer (9), spacer (13), clipnut (12) and clip (10) from the bracket (11).
   (3) Remove the three bolts (15) that attach the tube (14) to the scavenge oil pump.
   (4) Drain the oil into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
   (5) Remove the tube (14) from above the angle gearbox support (22).
   (6) Remove and discard the packing (16).

POST SBE 79-0056

   (7) Disconnect the scavenge oil tube (14) from the scavenge oil tube (7). Use the IAE1R18001 WRENCH.
   (8) Remove the nut (50), bolt (8) and clip (10) from the bracket (11).
   (9) Remove the nut (54), bolt (51), spacer (53) and clip (52) from the bracket (55).
   (10) Remove the three bolts (15) which attach the tube (14) to the scavenge oil pump.
   (11) Drain the oil into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
   (12) Remove the tube (14) from below the angle gearbox support (22).
   (13) Remove and discard the packing (16).

G. Disconnect the adapter (33) from the angle gearbox (23)

   (1) Remove the two nuts (28) and the two washers (29) that attach the adapter (33) to the angle gearbox (23).

   (2) Remove the two bolts (28) and the two washers (29) that attach the adapter (33) to the angle gearbox (23).

   (3) Disconnect the adapter (33) from the angle gearbox (23) and move it along the tube.

H. Loosen the bolts (27) and (34) which attach the tubes (30) and (36) to the scavenge oil pump (38)

I. Remove the scavenge oil pump
WARNING: BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP. IT WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 12.22 LBS (5,544 KG). IF IT FALLS, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE NUTS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE SUCTION STRAINER DOES NOT FALL DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP.
   (1) Remove the four nuts (39) and the four washers (40) which attach the scavenge oil pump (38) to the gearbox casing.
   (2) Remove the scavenge oil pump.
CAUTION: USE A TOOL WITH A BLUNT EDGE (FOR EXAMPLE A SMOOTH PUTTY KNIFE) TO SEPARATE THE PUMP FROM THE GEARBOX FLANGE. YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT DAMAGE THE SEALING SURFACES OF THE PUMPS PILOTING DIAMETER.
     (a) Remove the scavenge oil pump (38), with the two scavenge tubes (30) and (36) attached, from the gearbox casing.

J. Remove the suction strainer:
   (1) Remove the suction strainer (42).
   (2) Remove and discard the two packings (41).

K. Remove the two tubes (30) and (36) from the scavenge oil pump
   (1) Remove the bolts (27) and (34) and the washers (26) and (35) which attach the tubes (30) and (36) to the scavenge oil pump (38).
   (2) Remove the tubes (30) and (36) from the pump.
   (3) Remove and discard the packings (24), (37), (25), (31) and (32).
   (4) Put the applicable COVER - BLANKING on all the openings.

L. Remove the container from below the engine
CAUTION: DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK IN TO THE OIL SYSTEM.
   (1) Remove the container.
   (2) Discard the drained oil.
