Installation of the Magnetic Chip Detector

CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE MAGNETIC CHIP DETECTORS HAVE NEW SEAL RINGS INSTALLED. IF THE SEAL RINGS ARE NOT INSTALLED LARGE OIL LEAKAGE WILL OCCUR DURING ENGINE OPERATION AND CAN CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 79-22-45-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU, make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

4. Procedure
Subtask 79-22-45-420-055-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Install the new seal ring AIPC 79-22-45-80-040 SEAL RING (5) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-13-911-010) on the MCD.
F Magnetic Chip Detectors ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Lubricate the seal ring (5) with clean V10-077lubricant (engine oil)
Subtask 79-22-45-420-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Install the MCD (4)
F Master Magnetic Chip Detector ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THE MCD IF THE SEAL RING AND OMNISEAL ARE NOT INSTALLED. IF YOU DO, THIS COULD RESULT IN AN INFLIGHT SHUTDOWN OF THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF OIL LEAKAGE.
   (1) Carefully put the end of the MCD (4) into the housing (6). Align the bayonet pins with the slots in the housing. Push the MCD in to the housing and turn it clockwise until it will not turn more. Release the MCD. The spring pressure will keep the MCD in position.
   (2) To do an installation check of the MCD (4). Lightly pull the MCD and try to turn it clockwise and counterclockwise. The MCD must stay locked. Make sure the red marks on the MCD align with the red marks on the MCD housing.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the MCD access panel or left and right fan cowls if applicable.

   (3) Close the MCD access panel.

   (5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
