The procedure that follows to be done as a result of a microbiological contamination test. You must do this task if the test result shows moderate contamination and biocide will not be used, or if it shows heavy contamination. Return to AMM task "Sample Fuel for Microbiological Contamination Analysis (12-32-28-281-003-A)" on completion of this task and do the remaining steps. A. Safety Precautions
(2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate:
Subtask 28-11-00-860-058-A WARNING:
BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
WARNING:
ALWAYS PUT ON AN APPROVED RESPIRATOR AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING BEFORE YOU GO INTO A FUEL TANK THAT HAS MICROBIAL CONTAMINATION.
IF YOU BREATHE IN OR TOUCH THE MICROBIAL GROWTH, THERE CAN BE A HEALTH RISK.
(1) Obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001). (2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate:
- The flap/slat system
- The fuel system.
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(2) Do the EIS start procedure (upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).
(3) Defuel the aircraft to an unpumpable level (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
(4) Drain the remaining fuel from all of the fuel tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
(5) Discard the drained fuel that contains microbiological particles. Refer to the local regulations.
(6) Do the EIS stop procedure
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-002).
(7) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
(8) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the aircraft until all the work inside the tanks is complete and the tanks are closed.
Subtask 28-11-00-010-055-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(2) Do the EIS start procedure (upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).

C. Get Access
(1) To get access to the fuel tanks, remove the access panels that follow:
(3) If the results of the MBC test or visual inspection show heavy contamination, do a manual removal of contamination from the fuel tanks.
(4) If the results of the MBC test or visual inspection show moderate contamination and biocide is not available, remove contamination by manual cleaning.
(5) Do a visual inspection of all the other fuel tanks for contamination.
(6) If you find contamination during the visual inspection of the other fuel tanks, do a manual removal of contamination from the tanks:
(7) If biocide is available, do a curative biocide treatment in all the fuel tanks after the manual removal of contamination.

- 540AB, 540BB, 540CB, 540DB, 540EB, 540FB, 540GB, 640AB, 640BB, 640CB, 640DB, 640EB, 640FB and 640GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001).
- 540JB, 540KB, 540LB, 540MB, 540NB, 540PB, 540QB, 540RB, 550AB, 550BB, 550DB, 640JB, 640KB, 640LB, 640MB, 640NB, 640PB, 640QB, 640RB, 650AB, 650BB and 650DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001).

Subtask 28-11-00-615-052-A
A. Removal of the Microbiological Particles
(2) Clean the areas of contamination with a BRUSH - BRISTLED, FIBER, SOFT and the solution.
(3) Contamination can be seen as:
(a) Use a SPONGE to remove the remaining water from the tanks.
(6) Prepare the cleaning agent as follows:
(b) Make sure there is not more than 50% of Methyl Alcohol in the solution.
(7) Apply the solution to the areas of contamination and let it stay there between 15 minutes and 2 hours.
(8) Remove the solution with clean water.
(9) Remove the water that is remaining in the tank with the SPONGE.
(10) Use a BLOWING EQUIPMENT - DRY AIR to make sure that the tank is dry.
Subtask 28-11-00-960-085-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
DO NOT LET NEODOL 91-6E STAY IN THE FUEL TANK:
IT IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE ENGINES AND APU.
(1) Mix one part of Non Aqueous Cleaner-Microbiological in Tank - Ethoxylate Alcohol base- - (Material No.08BHA1) solution with 16 parts of water. (2) Clean the areas of contamination with a BRUSH - BRISTLED, FIBER, SOFT and the solution.
(3) Contamination can be seen as:
- Brown slimy or white particles
- A dark staining of the tank structure surface (when the tanks are dry)
- A mat of microbiological particles on the surfaces of the tank
- Sludge or slime with a strong sulphide smell
- Surface damage to sealants.
- The lower surfaces of the tank structure (stringers, spars and ribs)
- The areas where water can be caught
- The fuel pump canisters
- The fuel quantity probes.
NOTE: Take care when you do an inspection for contamination. The color of the contamination can be the same color as the sealants used in fuel tanks.
(5) Use a BRUSH - BRISTLED, FIBER, SOFT and clean water to remove the solution and the microbiological particles from the fuel tanks:(a) Use a SPONGE to remove the remaining water from the tanks.
(6) Prepare the cleaning agent as follows:
WARNING:
DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
(a) Mix one part of Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Methyl Alcohol - (Material No.08BBE1) solution with one part of water in a CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL). - FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
- GET MEDICAL AID.
(b) Make sure there is not more than 50% of Methyl Alcohol in the solution.
(7) Apply the solution to the areas of contamination and let it stay there between 15 minutes and 2 hours.
(8) Remove the solution with clean water.
(9) Remove the water that is remaining in the tank with the SPONGE.
(10) Use a BLOWING EQUIPMENT - DRY AIR to make sure that the tank is dry.
B. Replacement of the Fuel Filter Elements
(1) Replace the fuel filter elements for the engine and the APU:
(b) Replace the APU fuel-filter element:
Subtask 28-11-00-960-085-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Replace the fuel filter elements for the engine and the APU:
- Before the first flight after the biocide treatment and
- Between 50 to 75 subsequent flight hours.

B. Replacement of the Fuel Filter Elements
(1) Replace the fuel filter elements for the engine and the APU:

- Before the first flight after the biocide treatment and
- Between 50 to 75 subsequent flight hours.
(b) Replace the APU fuel-filter element:
- For 131-9(A) APU (Ref. AMM TASK 49-32-41-920-001)
- For APS 3200 APU (Ref. AMM TASK 49-32-41-920-002)
- For GTCP 36-300 APU (Ref. AMM D/O 49-32-11-61).
C. Tank Inspection
(1) Examine the exposed structure, brackets and clamps for damage and corrosion. Make sure that the components are correctly attached.
(2) Examine all the tank seals, sealant and void filler (if present) for deterioration. Be careful when you examine the sealant in the RIB1 and RIB2 areas:
(a) If heavy contamination has caused sealant or filler damage or if contamination is found below the sealant or filler:
1 Remove the sealant at each damaged location SRM 517612.
2 Remove all void filler along the buttstrap joint at RIB1 SRM 517612.
3 Do a detailed inspection of the exposed area and the sealant NTM 519000.
4 Do a detailed inspection and a surface HFEC inspection at each exposed area. Make sure that there is no damage and contamination NTM 519000, NTM 511002 and NTM 511008.
5 If structural damage is found, report full details to AIRBUS SRM 511113.
(b) If no damage is found:
1 Make sure the area is clean and free of contamination.
2 Replace the removed void filler and the sealant SRM 517612.
(3) Examine all the fuel system pipelines, couplings, bonded items, brackets and clamps for damage and corrosion. Make sure that the attachments are secure.
(4) If you can see corrosion refer to SRM 512200.
5. Close-up(1) Examine the exposed structure, brackets and clamps for damage and corrosion. Make sure that the components are correctly attached.
(2) Examine all the tank seals, sealant and void filler (if present) for deterioration. Be careful when you examine the sealant in the RIB1 and RIB2 areas:
(a) If heavy contamination has caused sealant or filler damage or if contamination is found below the sealant or filler:
1 Remove the sealant at each damaged location SRM 517612.
2 Remove all void filler along the buttstrap joint at RIB1 SRM 517612.
3 Do a detailed inspection of the exposed area and the sealant NTM 519000.
4 Do a detailed inspection and a surface HFEC inspection at each exposed area. Make sure that there is no damage and contamination NTM 519000, NTM 511002 and NTM 511008.
5 If structural damage is found, report full details to AIRBUS SRM 511113.
(b) If no damage is found:
1 Make sure the area is clean and free of contamination.
2 Replace the removed void filler and the sealant SRM 517612.
(3) Examine all the fuel system pipelines, couplings, bonded items, brackets and clamps for damage and corrosion. Make sure that the attachments are secure.
(4) If you can see corrosion refer to SRM 512200.

B. Removal of Equipment
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the SAFETY BARRIERS.
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
(5) Return to (Ref. AMM TASK 12-32-28-281-003) and complete the remaining steps. Repeat the microbiological contamination test in 10 days or after a minimum of 5 flights to confirm all microbiological contamination has been removed.
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the SAFETY BARRIERS.
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
(5) Return to (Ref. AMM TASK 12-32-28-281-003) and complete the remaining steps. Repeat the microbiological contamination test in 10 days or after a minimum of 5 flights to confirm all microbiological contamination has been removed.
