A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank, (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (4) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap/slat control lever.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Defuel the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (2) Drain the remaining fuel from the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable access panel:
   (2) Remove the forward and aft fixed fairings of the No. 3 flap track (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-000-001):

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable access panel:
   (2) Remove the forward and aft fixed fairings of the No. 3 flap track (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-000-004):
4. Procedure
Subtask 57-27-11-020-050-A
A. Removal of the Access Panel
CAUTION: YOU MUST REMOVE AND INSTALL THE BOLTS IN THE SPECIFIED SEQUENCE. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ACCESS PANEL.
   (1) To remove the PRE modification 30100J2130 panels:
     (a) If you cannot remove the applicable bolt(s) (6), (17) and (28) easily, use the 98A53003500000 REMOVAL TOOL OF PHILLIPS TORQUE or the 98A57304002000 EXTRACTION, MANHOLE BOLT.
     (b) Remove the applicable bolt(s) (6), (17) and (28) in the sequence AF thru A.
     (c) Remove the applicable clamp ring(s) (5), (16) and (27) and the applicable knitted gasket(s) (4), (15) and (26).
     (d) Remove the applicable access panel(s) (1), (12) and (23).
     (e) Identify the applicable removed access panel(s) (1), (12) and (23) with a LABEL - IDENTIFICATION.
   (2) To remove the POST modification 30100J2130 panels:
     (a) If you cannot remove the applicable bolt(s) (11), (22) and (33) easily, use the 98A53003500000 REMOVAL TOOL OF PHILLIPS TORQUE or the 98A57304002000 EXTRACTION, MANHOLE BOLT.
     (b) Remove the applicable bolt(s) (11), (22) and (33) in the sequence AF thru A.
     (c) Remove the applicable outer access panel(s) (10), (21) and (32) and the applicable knitted gasket(s) (9), (20) and (31).
     (d) Remove the applicable access panel(s) (7), (18) and (29).
     (e) Identify the applicable removed access panel(s) (7), (18) and (29) with a LABEL - IDENTIFICATION.

B. Inspection of the Lower Wing Tank Access Panels for Fluid Ingress
   (1) Examine the lower wing tank access panels:
     (a) Look for signs of:
  • fluid leakage at the panel side plug
  • fluid leakage at the panel rivnuts.
     (b) Weigh the panel to make sure that it is not heavier than its nominal weight. The nominal weights of the panels are given in the table that follows:

NOTE: If a panel weighs more than the value given in the table, repair the panels that have fluid ingress (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-300-001).
