Idle Test (Menu Mode)
This procedure is mainly used for Troubleshooting or test after installation of specific LRUs. It may also be used to do necessary idle leak checks after maintenance. The engine idle test will slew the electro-hydraulically controlled actuators that are inhibited sub-idle fully open and fully closed while the engine is at idle. Upon completion of the test, the test results screen is displayed on the Multipurpose Control and Display Unit (MCDU) showing any faults detected during the test. The valves tested are the High Pressure Turbine Active Clearance Control (HPTACC) valve, the Low Pressure Turbine Active Clearance Control (LPTACC) valve, the Modulated Turbine Cooling (MTC) valve and the Nacelle Anti Ice (NAI) valves.

(a) Release the FADEC GND PWR1(2) pushbutton switch. The ON legend of this pushbutton switch comes on.
1 After the FADEC is energized, wait ten seconds before you start the test. If you do not wait ten seconds, the interactive mode stops the EEC self-test and this can cause unwanted faults.
(2) On the left or right MCDU, get the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST/ENG page (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-012).
(3) Do the aircraft preparation.

WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT ALL ENGINE OPERATING AREAS ARE AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. ALL RAMPS, TAXIWAYS, RUNWAYS AND OTHER OPERATING AREAS MUST BE VERY CLEAN TO PREVENT BAD DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE, AIRCRAFT AND PERSONS IN THE AREA.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR GROUND SAFETIES AND THE WHEEL CHOCKS ARE IN POSITION. MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT CAN BE DANGEROUS.

- THE AIRCRAFT IS STOPPED AND CANNOT MOVE DURING THE ENGINE GROUND RUN.
- DECREASE THE ENGINE THRUST IMMEDIATELY
- STOP THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE PARKING BRAKE.

DO NOT TOUCH THE PROBES DURING OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS PROCEDURE. THE PROBES WILL BE HOT AND CAN BURN YOU.
CAUTION:
DO NOT REPLACE AN IDLE LEAK CHECK BY A MOTORING TEST. YOU CANNOT DETECT POTENTIAL OIL LEAKS WITH A MOTORING TEST. IF YOU DO A MOTORING TEST INSTEAD OF AN IDLE LEAK CHECK, YOU CAN CAUSE AN ENGINE SHUTDOWN.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY CONNECTED TO THE AIRCRAFT WHEN YOU DO THIS PROCEDURE. IF A HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY IS CONNECTED, THERE IS A RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE PUMPS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT ENTER A FLIGHT NUMBER IN THE CFDIU. IF YOU DO, THE MENU MODE WILL STOP WHEN YOU START THE OTHER ENGINE.
CAUTION:
- SEE THE APPLICABLE FIGURE FOR WIND LIMIT RESTRICTIONS WHEN THE ENGINE OPERATES.
- NATURAL WINDS AND IRREGULAR FORCES FROM SUDDEN GUSTS INCREASE THE DANGEROUS AREA.
- DO NOT GO ABOVE OPEN COWLING LIMITATIONS WHEN YOU DO THE TESTS.
- THE OPERATOR MUST FULLY KNOW ALL THE OPERATING LIMITS AND PROCEDURES BEFORE THE ENGINE OPERATES.
CAUTION:
OPERATION AT MINIMUM IDLE IN ICING CONDITIONS IS PERMITTED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS. IF THE CONDITION CONTINUES FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES , OR IF IMPORTANT ENGINE VIBRATION OCCURS; YOU MUST INCREASE THE ENGINE SPEED TO 70 PERCENT N1 MINIMUM FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 SECONDS BEFORE YOU SELECT A HIGHER THRUST OPERATION.

Thus it shall not be used as a Confirmation Method for NAI Failed Open fault (FC 2450, 2452, 2462) or as an Operational test for AMM tasks of NAIV installation (30-21-51-400-804) or NAIV reactivation (30-21-00-440-805) if FADEC version is FCS3.1.
Instead, use the procedure Alternative Operational Test for the Trouble Shooting NAI Valve Failed provided in task 30-21-00-710-802.

A. Preparation for Test
(1) Obey the wind limitations and safety precautions during engine ground operations (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-869-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-869-803).
(2) Put the 98F10103500000 CHOCK-MLG,ENGINE RUN-UP in position in front of each forward outboard MLG wheel.
(4) Make a visual check of the temperature sensors, fan inlet, and exhaust areas. If snow or ice has collected in the fan duct, make sure that the fan turns freely. Also, make sure that the engine inlet, inlet lip, fan, spinner, and fan exhaust duct are clear of ice or snow. If the fan does not turn freely, melt the ice or snow with hot air before an engine operation.
(5) If it is necessary, deice or anti-ice the fan blades. Refer to task Engine Start In Cold Weather Conditions (Ref. AMM TASK 12-31-71-660-803).
(6) Look at the general condition of the fan spinner and fan blades, core exhaust nozzle, LPT and external surfaces of the cowls.
(7) Make a check of the drain ports for fuel, oil and hydraulic leaks (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-790-805). Also make sure that fuel drained from the engine does not cause a fire.
Subtask 73-29-00-869-065-A (1) Obey the wind limitations and safety precautions during engine ground operations (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-869-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-869-803).
(2) Put the 98F10103500000 CHOCK-MLG,ENGINE RUN-UP in position in front of each forward outboard MLG wheel.
NOTE: If engine start is followed by a high power run, use 98F10103500000 CHOCK-MLG,ENGINE RUN-UP.
(3) Make sure that the engine inlet and exhaust covers are removed. Make sure that these areas are clear of unwanted objects. (4) Make a visual check of the temperature sensors, fan inlet, and exhaust areas. If snow or ice has collected in the fan duct, make sure that the fan turns freely. Also, make sure that the engine inlet, inlet lip, fan, spinner, and fan exhaust duct are clear of ice or snow. If the fan does not turn freely, melt the ice or snow with hot air before an engine operation.
(5) If it is necessary, deice or anti-ice the fan blades. Refer to task Engine Start In Cold Weather Conditions (Ref. AMM TASK 12-31-71-660-803).
(6) Look at the general condition of the fan spinner and fan blades, core exhaust nozzle, LPT and external surfaces of the cowls.
(7) Make a check of the drain ports for fuel, oil and hydraulic leaks (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-790-805). Also make sure that fuel drained from the engine does not cause a fire.
NOTE: In case of extreme cold weather condition (OAT < -20 deg.C), fuel leaks from the drain may occur and should not be considered as abnormal. Therefore, check for fuel leaks at the drain mast shall be performed with the engine fully stabilized at idle.
(8) Remove covers from TAT, AOA, and PITOT probes. B. Retraction of the Flaps and the Slats
Subtask 73-29-00-861-069-A Subtask 73-29-00-865-080-A CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE FLAPS AND THE SLATS ARE RETRACTED. IF THE FLAPS AND THE SLATS ARE NOT RETRACTED, AND IF YOU SELECT "FLEX TAKE OFF", THERE IS A RISK THAT THE THRUST WILL GO TO "MAX TAKE OFF".

E. Continue to Prepare for Idle Test
(1) Do the EIS start procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).
(2) Make sure that fire-fighting personnel is there.
(3) On the lower ECAM display unit:
(b) Make sure that the pressure of the Green reservoir for the engine 1 (Yellow reservoir for the engine 2) is correct.
(c) Make sure that the reservoir fluid level is correct.
(4) Make sure that the engine 1(2) pump is serviceable (on the ENG panel 40VU, the OFF legend of the ENG 1(2) PUMP pushbutton switch must be off).
Subtask 73-29-00-710-071-A (1) Do the EIS start procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).
(2) Make sure that fire-fighting personnel is there.
(3) On the lower ECAM display unit:
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR PRESSURE IS IN THE CORRECT OPERATION RANGE BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE. THE HYDRAULIC FLUID IS NECESSARY TO LUBRICATE THE HYDRAULIC PUMPS THAT THE ENGINE OPERATES.
(a) Get the HYDRAULIC page. (b) Make sure that the pressure of the Green reservoir for the engine 1 (Yellow reservoir for the engine 2) is correct.
(c) Make sure that the reservoir fluid level is correct.
(4) Make sure that the engine 1(2) pump is serviceable (on the ENG panel 40VU, the OFF legend of the ENG 1(2) PUMP pushbutton switch must be off).
F. Do the operational test of the engine fire and overheat detection (loop/squib) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-00-710-001).
Subtask 73-29-00-869-078-A G. Continue to prepare for test
(1) On the RUD TRIM/PARKING BRK panel 110VU:
(a) Make sure that the parking-brake control switch is set to ON.
(2) On the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch is set to OFF.
(3) Make sure that the throttle control lever of the engine 1(2) is in the idle stop position (zero on the graduated sector).
(4) On the center instrument panel 400VU, make sure that:
(a) The brake pressure indication on the brake Yellow-pressure triple-indicator is correct. If necessary, pressurize the brake accumulator with Yellow Pump (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-863-002).
(b) The landing-gear normal control-lever is in the DOWN position.
(5) Make sure that the interphone system operates correctly.
(6) Make sure that the aircraft is cleared and that no one stays in the dangerous areas.
(7) On the lower ECAM display unit:
(a) Get the FUEL page. Make sure that there is the correct quantity of fuel in the fuel tanks to run the engine.
(8) On the ENG panel 40VU:
(a) If there is fuel in the Center tank, make sure that MODE SEL is in AUTO (the MAN legend off).
(b) Push all the FUEL/PUMPS pushbutton switches (the OFF legends of these pushbutton switches go off).
(9) Do a check of the oil quantity.
(10) Supply the aircraft pneumatic system from a HP ground power unit or the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 36-12-00-860-805) or (Ref. AMM TASK 36-12-00-860-806).
(a) Set the EXT LT/BEACON switch to ON
(12) On the left or right Multipurpose Control and Display Unit (MCDU), get the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST/ENG page (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-012).
4. Procedure(1) On the RUD TRIM/PARKING BRK panel 110VU:
(a) Make sure that the parking-brake control switch is set to ON.
(2) On the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch is set to OFF.
(3) Make sure that the throttle control lever of the engine 1(2) is in the idle stop position (zero on the graduated sector).
(4) On the center instrument panel 400VU, make sure that:
(a) The brake pressure indication on the brake Yellow-pressure triple-indicator is correct. If necessary, pressurize the brake accumulator with Yellow Pump (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-863-002).

(5) Make sure that the interphone system operates correctly.

(a) Get the FUEL page. Make sure that there is the correct quantity of fuel in the fuel tanks to run the engine.
(8) On the ENG panel 40VU:
(a) If there is fuel in the Center tank, make sure that MODE SEL is in AUTO (the MAN legend off).
(b) Push all the FUEL/PUMPS pushbutton switches (the OFF legends of these pushbutton switches go off).
(9) Do a check of the oil quantity.
(10) Supply the aircraft pneumatic system from a HP ground power unit or the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 36-12-00-860-805) or (Ref. AMM TASK 36-12-00-860-806).
NOTE: The minimum recommended starter air supply pressure is 25 PSI, when the start valve is open.
Two external pneumatic power units may be used in parallel, if the pressure/flow relation is expected to be marginal.
(11) On the overhead CTL & PNL panel 25VU: Two external pneumatic power units may be used in parallel, if the pressure/flow relation is expected to be marginal.
(a) Set the EXT LT/BEACON switch to ON
(12) On the left or right Multipurpose Control and Display Unit (MCDU), get the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST/ENG page (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-012).

WARNING:
AFTER AN ABORT OF THE ENGINE STARTING SEQUENCE, A DRY CRANK, TO REMOVE FUEL VAPOURS, WILL OCCUR, ACCOMPANIED BY ECAM MESSAGE:
- AUTO CRANK IN PROGRESS
- ENG MASTER OFF.
CAUTION:
DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE IF THE FUEL INLET PRESSURE IS NOT POSITIVE (THE FUEL IS NECESSARY TO LUBRICATE THE ENGINE FUEL PUMP AND THE FMU AND THUS PREVENT DAMAGE).
A. Idle Test (Menu Mode) NOTE: The EEC will not enter the menu mode (interactive mode) after an enquire command from the CFDS (Centralized Fault Display System) when any of the following conditions are set:
- N2 more than ten percent or invalid
- Rotary selector on CRANK or IGN/START or invalid
- Manual Start Button on ON or invalid
- TLA (Throttle Lever Angle) not at idle or invalid
- Aircraft in the air
- MASTER lever ON or invalid
- BITE command code input label invalid.
NOTE: The EEC will abort a running test or special function when any of the following conditions becomes set:
(1) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU: - N2 more than 85 percent or invalid
- TLA (Throttle Lever Angle) not at idle or invalid
- Aircraft in the air
- N2 drops below 20 percent after going above 20 percent
- N2 more than 20 percent for two minutes during crank or start phase
- You enter in the interactive mode of the other channel
- Idle test has run with N2 more than 55 percent for ten minutes or more.

(2) Check the engine oil level and service as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-805).
