TASK 71-13-00-010-803-A
Opening of the Fan Cowl Doors

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TELESCOPIC HOR'S ARE LOCKED CORRECTLY IN THE EXTENDED POSITION. IF THEY ARE NOT, THE COWL DOORS CAN CLOSE ACCIDENTALLY.
WARNING: WHEN THIS OPERATION IS DONE BY TWO PERSONS, MAKE SURE THAT THE MAXIMUM WIND SPEED IS NOT MORE THAN 40 KNOTS (74 KM/H). INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR IF THE WIND MOVES THE FAN COWL(S).
WARNING: IF YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON TO DO THIS PROCEDURE, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THE GROUND IS DRY AND CLEAN, AND
  • THE MAXIMUM WIND SPEED IS NOT MORE THAN 10 KNOTS (19 KM/H).
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: DO NOT KEEP A FAN COWL DOOR OPEN WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 45 KNOTS (83 KM/H) OR MORE. IF THE WIND MOVES THE FAN COWL DOOR, INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU HANDLE THE LATCHES, DO NOT USE TOO MUCH FORCE. IF EXCESSIVE FORCE IS NECESSARY, DO AN INSPECTION OF THE FAN COWL DOORS.
CAUTION: DO NOT EXTEND THE SLATS WHEN THE FAN COWLS AND THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS ARE OPEN. IF YOU DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.
NOTE: Engine run up to idle is allowed with the fan cowls doors open.

A. Opening of the Fan Cowl Doors
   (1) Left fan cowl door:
     (a) Follow this sequence:

2 Push the trigger (3) to release the L3 latch handle and pull the L3 latch handle (4).
3 Push the trigger (3) to release the L2 latch handle and pull the L2 latch handle (5).
     (b) Move the fan cowl door (1) in order to disengage the spigots and generate a gap between fan cowl door and the air intake cowl.
NOTE: When the forward latch is open, the cowl loss prevention flag is deployed on the left fan cowl door. If the flag is not deployed on the left fan cowl door, you must examine the system for blockage.
NOTE: The fan cowl door must sustain this gap while the mechanic goes to the forward lateral side of the fan cowl door.

1 Get access to the rear HOR (7) and move the lock ring to release the rod from its stowage bracket (8).
     (f) Attach the rear HOR (7) to the fitting on the engine case (9).
     (g) Make sure that the rear HOR (7) is attached correctly.
     (h) Close the HOR (7).
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE INDICATOR OF THE HOLD-OPEN ROD (HOR) IS GREEN (LOCKED). IF IT IS NOT GREEN, THE HOR IS NOT LOCKED CORRECTLY AND INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
