C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Put on a safety harness:
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK, YOU MUST PUT ON A SAFETY HARNESS AND ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
     (a) Put on and attach a 98L12003001000 HARNESS,SAFETY before you start work in the work area.
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is in position below the applicable inboard flap.
   (3) Make sure that the flaps are in the fully extended position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
   (4) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the slat/flap control lever.
   (5) Make sure that movable fairing of flap track No 2 is lowered for access (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-010-001).
   (6) If installed make sure that the movable fairing of the aft pylon is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 54-55-00-000-001).

NOTE: NEO aircraft do not have a pylon aft movable fairing.
   (7) Make sure that the applicable wing to fuselage panels are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-11-000-001):
     (a) For the left wing, remove 193AB 193BB.
     (b) For the right wing, remove 194AB 194BB.
   (8) Make sure that the applicable wing access panels are removed:
     (a) For the left wing:
       1 Remove 573CB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-000-002).
       2 Remove 575AB 575BB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-000-004).
     (b) For the right wing:
       1 Remove 673CB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-000-002).
       2 Remove 675AB 675BB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-000-004).
   (9) Make sure that hinge 1A fairings is removed.
   (10) Make sure that the applicable torque shaft is disconnected from the right angle gearbox.
   (11) Install the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) on the right angle gearbox.
   (12) Make sure that the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT is on the applicable torque shaft.
   (13) Make sure that spoilers 1 and 2 are fully extended and locked.
   (14) Make sure that the 98D27604000000 COLLAR-SAFETY, SPOILER or 98D27604004000 COLLAR SAFETY SPOILER is installed on the applicable piston rod of the servo-control.
   (15) Make sure that the flap kink seals are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-000-002).
   (16) Make sure that the interconnecting strut is disconnected (Ref. AMM TASK 27-51-44-000-001) and is safetied to the outboard flap with the TAPE - ADHESIVE.
   (17) Make sure that the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE at hinge 1A and track 2 positions are installed.
   (18) If you install a new inboard flap, install the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DISCONNECTED PARTS DO NOT TOUCH AND/OR CATCH THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE WING.
     (a) Manually push the tab forward and install the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE (82) and (88) as follows:
       1 At hinge 1A position, put the distance gage (88) in position.
       2 Install the rear pin (89).
       3 Install the forward pin (86) and lock it with the knurled screw (87).
       4 At track 2 position, put the distance gage (82) in position.
       5 Install the rear pin (85) and lock it with the knurled screw (81).
       6 Install the forward pin (83) and lock it with the knurled screw (84).
4. Procedure
Subtask 27-54-61-560-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Remove the covers from the flap.
   (2) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (5) At the track 1 and the track 2 positions:
     (a) Make sure that the rotary actuator drive-levers (110) are in the fully extended position.
     (b) Make sure that the frangible covers (105) are not damaged or loose.
   (6) Make sure that the flap track 2 carriage touches the end stop (130).
   (7) Make sure that the items that follow are held with TAPE - ADHESIVE:

  • The Z-coupling lever (15) on the outboard flap
  • The Z-coupling lever (25) on the inboard flap
  • The tab drive control-rod (36) at the hinge 1A position
  • The electrical cables (144) and (145).
   (8) At the track 2 position, if installed, remove the tab drive control-rod (68) from the flap attachment bracket (62):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (63).
     (b) Remove the nut (64), washer (65), bolt (61) and the loose bush (66).
Subtask 27-54-61-420-062-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Inboard Flap
   (1) If necessary, install the hoisting sling (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-002).
   (2) Remove the temporarily installed items that follow from the flap drive trunnion (165):
  • The bolt (159)
  • The tabwasher (160)
  • The retainer (161)
  • The nut (162)
  • The tabwasher (158)
  • The toothplate (157)
  • The eccentric bush (163).
   (3) Put the spacer (164) in position on the flap drive trunnion (165).
   (4) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the flap drive trunnion (165).
NOTE: For the lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (5) Install the flap on the wing:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE FLAP DOES NOT HIT THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE.
     (a) With the hoist and the hoisting sling, carefully lift the flap and put it in position above the wing.
     (b) Lower the flap and engage the flap drive trunnion (165) in the flap-track carriage (169) at the track 1 position.
   (6) Make sure that the spacer (164) is correctly in position on the flap drive trunnion (165).
   (7) Install the eccentric bush (163) on the flap drive trunnion (165).
   (8) If necessary, carefully move the flap with the hoist and the sling to let you install the eccentric bush (163).
   (9) Make sure that the eccentric bush (163) engages into the spacer (164).
   (10) Temporarily install:
   (11) Make sure that the eccentric bush (163) shows the zero datum position. Refer to
   (12) Lower the outboard end of the flap and engage the spherical bearing in the flap track 2 carriage.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DISCONNECTED PARTS DO NOT TOUCH AND/OR CATCH THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE WING.
     (a) Make sure that the spherical bearing is set to its nominal position. At this position:
  • The painted (red) marks on the spherical bearing are aligned, and/or
  • The hole of the spherical bearing is at its maximum aft position.
     (b) If necessary, repair the painted (red) marks.
   (13) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the bolt (132) and the splined bush (121).
NOTE: For the lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (14) If necessary, install the 98D27504083000 EXTRACTOR - PIN TRACKS 2 AND 3 to the carriage bolt (132).
   (15) Make sure that you screw the extractor tool fully on to the threads. This will let the carriage bushes compress the retaining wire ring (131) when the bolt (132) is installed.
   (16) Install the splined bush:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE SPLINED BUSH IS FULLY ENGAGED WITH THE SPHERICAL BEARING. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
     (a) Install the splined bush (121).
   (17) Install the carriage bolt assembly as follows:
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE RETAINING WIRE RING FROM THE CARRIAGE BOLT ASSEMBLY. IF YOU DO, YOU MUST INSTALL A NEW CARRIAGE BOLT ASSEMBLY TO KEEP THE FAIL SAFE FUNCTION.
     (a) Install the bolt (132) to the track 2 carriage.
     (b) Remove the 98D27504083000 EXTRACTOR - PIN TRACKS 2 AND 3 from the bolt (132).
     (c) Make sure that you can see the retaining wire ring (131) and that it is free to turn.
   (18) Temporarily install the locking plate (122), washer (127) and nut (126) hand tight only.
   (19) Make sure that the failsafe hook nuts (133) are hand tight only.
CAUTION: SUPPORT THE FLAP ALONG THE FULL LENGTH OF THE TRAILING EDGE. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FLAP.
   (20) Remove the hoisting sling:
NOTE: The weight of the inboard flap is 201 kg (443.13 lb).
     (a) Remove the hoisting sling (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-002).
   (21) Connect the flap to the drive-levers (106) and (110):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DISCONNECTED PARTS DO NOT TOUCH AND/OR CATCH THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE WING.
     (a) Manually push the flap forward and engage the flap drive-levers (106) with the rotary actuator drive-levers (110). Temporarily install the bolt (104), the washer (107) and the nut (108) at each lever position.
   (22) Use the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) and use a WRENCH - PNEUMATIC to fully retract the flaps.
   (23) Remove the 98D27604000000 COLLAR-SAFETY, SPOILER or 98D27604004000 COLLAR SAFETY SPOILER from the piston rod of the servo controls and lower spoilers 1 and 2 (Ref. AMM TASK 27-60-00-866-002).
Subtask 27-54-61-820-059-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Check and Adjustment of the Inboard Flap Rigged Position
   (1) Before you do the rigging procedure, make sure that:
  • The aircraft weight is on the landing gear.
  • The engines are installed.
  • The fuel load is symmetrical or the wing tanks are empty
  • The flap is fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-012).
   (2) Install the sharks fin flap rigging kit and do a check of the inboard flap rigged position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-51-00-820-003).
   (3) If necessary, adjust the inboard flap rigged position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-51-00-820-009).
Subtask 27-54-61-420-078-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Complete the Installation of the Flap to the Carriage Assembly
   (1) At the track 2 position:
     (a) Make sure that the failsafe hook nuts (133) are hand tight only.
     (b) Make sure that the spherical bearing and the splined bush (121) are engaged correctly.
     (c) Install the locking plate (122), washer (127) and nut (126).
     (d) Install the new AIPC 27-54-46-22-030 CRUSHABLE WASHER (123) and the nut (124) as follows:
       1 Put the new crushable washer (123) in position on the bolt (132).
       2 Loosely install the nut (124) on the bolt (132) and turn it sufficiently to engage the threads correctly.
       3 Put the crushable washer (123) in position on the flange of the nut (124) and hold it there.
       4 Continue to turn the nut (124) until the crushable washer (123) touches the locking plate (122).
     (e) Use the
98D27504118000 SPANNER - FLAP ADJUSTMENT to hold the head of the bolt (132) and TORQUE the nut (124) to between 20 and 15 m.daN (147.49 and 110.62 lbf.ft ) T.
     (f) Safety the nut (124) with a new
AIPC 27-54-46-22-010 COTTER PIN (125).
     (g) TORQUE the nuts (133) to between 0.12 and 0.05 m.daN (10.62 and 4.42 lbf.in )
T.
     (h) Safety the nuts (133):
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Safety the nuts (133) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (2) Attach the bonding strap (129) with the bolt (128) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (3) TORQUE the bolt (128) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
   (4) Safety the bolt (128):

   (1) Install the tab drive control-rod (68) at the track 2 position:
     (a) Install the loose bushes (57) and (66).
     (b) Install the tab drive control-rod (68) to the tab attachment bracket (62) with the bolt (61). Do not install the washer (65) and the nut (64) at this time.
     (c) If necessary, adjust the tab drive control-rod (68) to let you connect it to the carriage assembly (56) as follows:
       1 Remove the bolt (61) and remove the tab drive control-rod (68).
       2 Remove the lockwire:

       5 Adjust the length of the tab drive control-rod (68) until you can install the bolt (70).
   (2) When the tab drive control-rod (68) is at its correct length:
     (a) Install the bolt (70).
     (b) Tighten the nut (69) and tighten the nut (67) by hand as much as possible.
     (c) Remove the bolts (70) and (61) and remove the tab drive control-rod (68).
     (d) Make sure that the threads of the eye-ends of the tab drive control rod (68) are in safety.
     (e) TORQUE the nut (69) to between 3.8 and 3.3 m.daN (28.02 and 24.34 lbf.ft ) T.
     (f) TORQUE the nut (67) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft )

     (g) Safety the nuts:

     (k) Safety the nut (60) with the new
AIPC 27-54-46-22-095 COTTER PIN (59).
     (l) TORQUE the nut (64) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft )

     (m) Safety the nut (64) with the new
AIPC 57-52-23-10-110 COTTER PIN (63).
   (3) Remove the rigging pin (180) at the track 1 position.
   (4) Remove the
98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE (82) and (88).
   (5) At the hinge 1A position:
     (a) Remove the knurled screw (87) and the forward pin (86).
     (b) Remove the rear pin (89) and the distance gage (88).
   (6) At the track 2 position:
     (a) Remove the knurled screw (84) and the forward pin (83).
     (b) Remove the knurled screw (81), the rear pin (85) and remove the distance gage (82).

I. Installation of the Tab Drive Control-Rod (36) at the Hinge 1A Position
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DISCONNECTED PARTS DO NOT TOUCH AND/OR CATCH THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE WING.
   (1) Use the pneumatic wrench and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to carefully extend the flaps fully. Manually move the tab so that it moves parallel with the flap.
NOTE: The tab is connected at the track 2 position only.
   (2) Remove the TAPE - ADHESIVE from the tab drive control-rod (36) and remove the PAD - PROTECTIVE FOAM.
   (3) Push the tab forward (at the inboard end) until the upper tab drive control-rod (36) is aligned with the bracket (39).
   (4) Install the bolt (40), washer (41) and nut (42).
   (5) Use the pneumatic wrench and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to fully retract the flaps.
   (6) Install the distance gage (88) at the hinge 1A position. If you cannot install the distance gage, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Use the pneumatic wrench and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to fully extend the flaps.
     (b) Remove the nut (42), washer (41) and bolt (40).
     (c) Loosen the nut (37).
     (d) Increase or decrease the length of the eye-end (38) (by one half turn) and install the bolt (40), the washer (41) and the nut (42).
     (e) Tighten the nut (37).
   (7) Do the steps (4) and (5) again until the distance gage (88) at the hinge 1A position can be installed.
   (8) Measure dimension G (between the forward lever (45) and the nose of the flap (44)). This must be between 7 mm (0.28 in.) and 11 mm (0.43 in.).
   (9) Remove the distance gage (88) from hinge 1A.
   (10) Use the pneumatic wrench and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to fully extend the flaps.
   (11) Make sure that the eye end (38) is in safety.
   (12) TORQUE the nut (37) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft ) T.
   (13) Safety the nut (37):

   (15) Safety the nut (42) with the new
AIPC 57-51-05-89-320 COTTER PIN (43).
   (16) Use the pneumatic wrench and the
98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to fully retract the flaps. Make sure that the flap and the tab operate correctly.

J. Complete the Installation of the Flap Drive Lever and the Actuator Drive Lever at the Track 2 Position
   (1) TORQUE the nut (108) to between 12.0 and 10.0 m.daN (88.50 and 73.75 lbf.ft ) T.
   (2) Safety the nut (108) with the new
AIPC 27-54-05-31-130 COTTER PIN (109) or AIPC 27-54-85-34-220 COTTER PIN (109).
   (3) Attach the bonding strap (102) with the bolt (100), washer (101) and nut (103) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).

K. Alignment of the Inboard Cruise Roller of the Outboard Flap
F Cruise Roller Adjustment ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Measure dimension U:
     (a) If dimension U is less than, or equal to, 3 mm (0.12 in.):
  • You must adjust the position of the cruise roller (234) so that dimension T measures 3 mm (0.12 in.).
     (b) If dimension U is more than 3 mm (0.12 in.):
  • You must adjust the position of the cruise roller (234) so that dimension T measures 0 mm (0.00 in.).
   (2) To adjust the cruise roller (234), do the steps that follow:
     (a) If necessary, remove the cushion seal (229).
     (b) Remove the nut (232), collar (231) and serrated plate (233).
     (c) Turn the eccentric (230) until dimension T is correct.
     (d) Install the serrated plate (233) to lock the eccentric (230).
     (e) Install the collar (231) and the nut (232). Tighten the nut (232) by hand.
     (f) Do a check of dimension U and dimension T again.
     (g) TORQUE the nut (232) to between 5.4 and 4.8 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.ft ) T.
   (3) Measure and record the clearance between the bottom surface of the shroud box and the top surface of the flap (measured at the outboard end of the shroud box). The clearance must be between 5 mm (0.20 in.) and 12 mm (0.47 in.).
   (4) Do a check of the clearance between the trailing edge of spoiler 1 and the top surface of the flap (
Ref. AMM TASK 27-64-00-820-001).

L. Installation of the Z-coupling
F Details of the Z-Coupling ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove the Z-coupling lever (25) from the inboard flap attachment-bracket (21):
     (a) Remove the nut (23), washer (24), bolt (20) and lever (25).
     (b) Remove the nut (17), washer (18) and spacer(s) (19).
   (2) Put the lever (25) in position on the lever (15) and at the inboard flap attachment-bracket (21).
   (3) Temporarily install the bolt (20).
   (4) Measure and write down the minimum value of dimension F that can be measured between the levers (25) and (15):
     (a) Subtract 2 mm (0.08 in.) from dimension F and use sufficient 57522303-350SPACER(S)19 to get the remaining thickness.
     (b) If dimension F is less than 2 mm (0.08 in.), put the spacer(s) (19) between the lever (15) and the washer (18).
     (c) If there is no gap between the levers (25) and (15), apply a load to the outboard end of the inner flap to get a gap of 0.1 mm (0.00 in.). The load must be applied vertically in line with the lever (25) and must not be more than 20 daN (45 lbf).
   (5) If necessary, remove the bolt (20) and the lever (25).
   (6) Install the lever (25) with the correct thickness of 57522303-360SPACER(S)19 between the levers (25) and (15).
   (7) Install the bolt (20).
   (8) Make sure that the rigging pin (180) is removed at the track 1 position.
   (9) Use the pneumatic wrench and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to extend the flaps to position 1.
   (10) Install the washer (24) and the nut (23).
   (11) TORQUE the nut (23) to between 1 and 0.9 m.daN (88.50 and 79.65 lbf.in ) T.
   (12) Safety the nut (23) with a new
AIPC 57-52-23-03-270 COTTER PIN (22).
   (13) Use the pneumatic wrench and the
98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to retract the flaps to the 0 position.
   (14) Install the remaining spacers(s) (19) above the washer (18) and the nut (17).
   (15) TORQUE the nut (17) to between 3.6 and 3.1 m.daN (26.55 and 22.86 lbf.ft ) T.
   (16) Safety the nut (17) with a new
AIPC 57-52-23-03-328 COTTER PIN (16).
Subtask 27-54-61-860-065-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
M. Aircraft Configuration
   (1) Install the interconnecting strut (
Ref. AMM TASK 27-51-44-400-001).
   (2) Connect the applicable torque shaft to the right angle gearbox (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-41-400-001).
   (3) Remove the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP).

     (a) For the left wing, install 193AB 193BB.
     (b) For the right wing, install 194AB 194BB.
   (6) Install the applicable wing access panels:
     (a) For the left wing:
       1 Install 573CB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-400-002).
       2 Install 575AB 575BB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-400-004).
     (b) For the right wing:
       1 Install 673CB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-400-002)
       2 Install 675AB 675BB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-400-004).
   (7) Extend the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008) sufficiently to install the rubbing strip (2).
   (8) Install the rubbing strip (2) and the support (1).

O. Adjustment of the Inboard Flap to Fuselage Belly-Fairing Seals
   (1) Retract the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
   (2) At area X, make sure that the upper seal touches the belly fairing.
   (3) At areas U and U1:
     (a) If possible, adjust the lower seals until they touch the belly fairing.
       1 If you cannot adjust the lower seals until they touch the belly fairing, make sure that:
  • The clearance between the lower seals and the belly fairing is a maximum of 4 mm (0.16 in.).
   (4) If, at area X, the upper seal does not touch the belly fairing:
  • Loosen the screws (248) and move the upper seal until it touches the belly fairing.
   (5) If, at areas U and U1, the lower seals are in incorrect position, do the steps that follow:
     (a) At area U:
  • Loosen the screws (248) and move the lower seal until it is in correct position.
     (b) At area U1:
  • Loosen the screws (247) and move the lower seal until it is in correct position.
   (6) TORQUE the screws (247) and (248) to between 0.5 and 0.4 m.daN (44.25 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
