A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are energized (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002) or (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (2) In the cockpit, on AIR COND panel 30VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the OFF legend is on).
     (b) Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
   (3) Make sure that you did the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
   (4) On access door 191DB on the HP ground connector:
     (a) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.

D. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Ground Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).
4. Procedure
Subtask 36-11-49-420-136-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the ECS Ducts
   (1) If you use the APU to energize the electrical circuits, stop the APU:
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM IS DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE YOU START WORK. PRESSURIZED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
   (2) Make sure that you wait for a minimum of 5 minutes until there is no pressure in the bleed-air duct system.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE UNIT UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
   (3) Make sure that the temperature of the bleed-air duct system is in the ambient condition.
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
   (4) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION from the engine.
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (5) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (6) Install the ECS ducts as follows:
     (a) Install the ECS LP duct (27) on the engine as follows:
       1 Attach the ECS LP duct (27) to the engine with the V-band couplings (29) and a new AIPC 36-11-86-20-250 SEAL (28).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the V-band coupling (29) at this time.
       2 Attach the ECS LP duct (27) to the heatshield bracket with the bolts (52) and the washers (53).
       3 TORQUE the bolts (52) to between 35 and 31.5 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.36 m.daN )
T.
     (b) Install the venturis (50) as follows:
       1 Apply Never-Seez Pure Nickel Special (Material No.
PU5-0003) to the threads of the bolts (49).
       2 Install the venturis (50) and a new AIPC 36-11-86-20-410 SEAL (51) on the engine with the bolts (49) and the washers (48).
       3 TORQUE the bolts (49) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
WARNING: USE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL SAFETY CABLE. EACH TIME YOU CUT SAFETY CABLE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE SAFETY CABLE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
       4 Install PU1-0002Cable,Safety or safety cable (Material No.
PU1-0027) on the bolts (49) and the Nacelle Anti Icing (NAI) duct bolt.
     (c) Install the ECS HP duct (26) as follows:
       1 Apply anti-seize compound (Material No.PU5-0005) or Royco 81 MS Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005A) or PT 605 Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005B) to the threads of the nuts (30).
       2 Install the unions (32), the washers (31) and the nuts (30) of the ECS HP duct (26).
       3 TORQUE the nuts (30) to between 150 and 130 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.47 m.daN ) T.
       4 Install the link assembly (47) as follows:
         a If necessary, adjust the link assembly (47) to a nominal length of approximately 3.5 in. (88.90 mm).
         b TORQUE the lock nuts of link assembly (47) to between 175 and 155 lbf.in (1.98 and 1.75 m.daN )
T.
         c On the link assembly (47), make sure that the threads of the link rod continue to cover the inspection hole.
         d Apply a layer of anti-seize compound (Material No.
PU5-0005) or Royco 81 MS Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005A) or PT 605 Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005B) to the threads of the nuts (43).
         e Install the link assembly (47) of the ECS HP duct (26) with the bolts (46), washers (44), bushings (45) and nuts (43).
         f TORQUE the nuts (43) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN ) T.
CAUTION: INSTALL THE V-BAND COUPLINGS AS SHOWN IN THE FIGURE. DO NOT USE THE LATCH MARKINGS TO FIND THE POSITION OF THE COUPLINGS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
       5 Attach the ECS HP duct (26) to the venturis (50) with the V-band couplings (34) and a new
AIPC 36-11-86-20-260 SEAL (33).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the V-band couplings (34) at this time.
       6 Apply a layer of anti-seize compound (Material No.
PU5-0005) or Royco 81 MS Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005A) or PT 605 Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005B) to the threads of the nuts (35) and (42).
       7 Attach the ECS HP duct (26) to the link assembly with the bolt (38), washers (36), bushing (37) and nut (35).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the nut (35) at this time.
       8 Attach the ECS HP duct (26) to the link assembly with the bolt (39), washers (40), bushing (41) and nut (42).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the nut (42) at this time.
       9 Attach the anti-ice sense tubes to the ECS HP duct (26) (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-807).
     (d) Install the ECS starter duct (9) as follows:
       1 Apply Never-Seez Pure Nickel Special (Material No.PU5-0003) to the threads of the nut (22).
       2 Install the union (24), the washer (23) and the nut (22) of the ECS starter duct (9).
       3 TORQUE the nut (22) to between 150 and 140 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.58 m.daN ) T.
       4 Attach the ECS starter duct (9) to the Starter Air Valve (SAV) with the V-band coupling (7) and a new
AIPC 36-11-86-20-270 SEAL (8).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the V-band coupling (7) at this time.
       5 Attach the overpressure valve to the ECS starter duct (9) with the V-band coupling (7) and the seal (8) (
Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-53-400-802).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the V-band coupling (7) at this time.
       6 Apply a layer of anti-seize compound (Material No.PU5-0005) or Royco 81 MS Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005A) or PT 605 Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005B) to the threads of the nuts (13), (14) and (21).
       7 Attach the ECS starter duct (9) to the link assemblies with the bolts (10) and (17), washers (11) and (15), bushings (12) and (16) and nuts (13) and (14).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the nuts (13) and (14) at this time.
       8 Attach the ECS starter duct (9) to the link assembly with the bolt (18), washers (19), bushing (20) and nut (21).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the nut (21).
     (e) Install the HP Bleed Valve (HPV) with the V-band coupling (7) and the seal (8) of the ECS HP duct (26) (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-51-400-802).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the V-band coupling (7) at this time.
     (f) Install the Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV) with the V-band coupling (7) and the seal (8) of the ECS starter duct (9) (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-52-400-802).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the V-band coupling (7) at this time.
     (g) Install the intermediate pressure check-valve with the mid-Y duct (25), the V-band couplings (7) and the seal (8) of the PRV, the HPV and the ECS LP duct (27) (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-41-400-802).
NOTE: It is not necessary to torque the V-band coupling (7) at this time.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THERE IS NO TENSION ON THE LINK ASSEMBLIES FOR THE ECS DUCTS
  • THE MATING SURFACES BETWEEN THE DUCTS CORRECTLY ALIGN.
TENSION AND INCORRECT ALIGNMENT CAN CAUSE AIR LEAKAGE, WHICH CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
     (h) Adjust the ECS ducts, the valves and the link assemblies until there is no preload.
     (i) If you cannot adjust the ECS ducts, the valves, and the link assemblies (until there is no preload), adjust the starter duct as follows:
       1 Remove the bolt (67) and the nut (65) from the rod assembly (66) and the starter duct (63).
       2 Move the rod assembly (66) away from the starter duct (63).
       3 Loosen the coupling (64) on the starter duct (63) from the starter.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THERE IS NO TENSION ON THE LINK ASSEMBLIES FOR THE ECS DUCTS
  • THE MATING SURFACES BETWEEN THE DUCTS CORRECTLY ALIGN.
TENSION AND INCORRECT ALIGNMENT CAN CAUSE AIR LEAKAGE, WHICH CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
       4 Adjust the starter duct (63), ECS ducts, valves and link assemblies until there is no preload.
       5 Do a check of the rod assembly (66) on the starter duct (63). If the length of the link needs to be adjusted, do as follows:
WARNING: USE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL SAFETY CABLE. EACH TIME YOU CUT SAFETY CABLE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE SAFETY CABLE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
         a Remove and discard the safety cables on the jam nuts on the rod assembly (66).
         b Hold the loose end of the rod assembly (66) and turn the center rod of the link to adjust it to the correct length.
         c Make sure that you can see the threads of the tie rods in the inspection holes on the rod assembly (66). If you cannot see the threads, do Steps 6.(i).4_ and 6.(i).5_ again.
       6 Apply PU5-0008Lubricant, Solid Film to the threads of the bolt (67).
       7 Attach the rod assembly (66) to the starter duct (63) with the bolt (67) and the nut (65).
       8 TORQUE the nut (65) to between 195 and 175 lbf.in (2.20 and 1.98 m.daN ) T.
       9 If you adjusted the length of the rod assembly (66), tighten the link as follows:
         a Make sure that the rod assembly (66) freely rotates around the end balls of the link.
         b TORQUE the jam nuts on the rod assembly (66) to between 24 and 22 lbf.in (0.27 and 0.25 m.daN )
T.
         c Safety the jam nuts with PU1-0027Cable, Safety.
       10 Tighten the loose coupling (64) on the starter duct (63) as follows:
         a TORQUE the coupling (64) to between 115 and 100 lbf.in (1.30 and 1.13 m.daN )
T.
         b Tap around the outer surface of the coupling (64) with a U1-0004Hammer, Fiber.
         c TORQUE the coupling (64) again to between 115 and 100 lbf.in (1.30 and 1.13 m.daN )
T.
         d Tap around the outer surface of the coupling (64) again with a U1-0004Hammer, Fiber.
         e TORQUE the coupling (64) a third time to between 115 and 100 lbf.in (1.30 and 1.13 m.daN )
T.
         f Tap around the outer surface of the coupling (64) again with a U1-0004Hammer, Fiber.
         g TORQUE the coupling (64) to between 115 and 100 lbf.in (1.30 and 1.13 m.daN )
T.
     (j) Make sure that the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) are in the correct position to get the maximum clearance.
     (k) Make sure that the V-band couplings (7) and (29) latch is adjacent to the latch arrows on the ECS starter duct (9), mid-Y duct (25) and ECS LP duct (27).
     (l) TORQUE the nuts (13), (14), (21), (35) and (42) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN )
T.
     (m) Tighten the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) as follows:
       1 TORQUE the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
T.
       2 Tap around the outer surface of the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) with a HAMMER - FIBER.
       3 TORQUE the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) again to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
T.
       4 Tap around the outer surface of the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) again with a HAMMER - FIBER.
       5 TORQUE the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) a third time to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
T.
       6 Tap around the outer surface of the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) again with a HAMMER - FIBER.
       7 TORQUE the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34) to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
T.
       8 Make sure that two full threads are shown on the screws of the V-band couplings (7), (29) and (34).
     (n) Attach the component cooling tube to the ECS starter duct (9) as follows:
       1 Apply Never-Seez Pure Nickel Special (Material No.
PU5-0003) to the threads of the bolts (1), (3) and (5).
       2 Attach the component cooling tube and the clamp to the ECS starter duct (9) with the bolt (3) and the washer (4).
       3 TORQUE the bolt (3) to between 27 and 24.3 lbf.in (0.31 and 0.27 m.daN ) T.
       4 Attach the component cooling tube and the clamp to the ECS starter duct (9) with the bolt (5) and the washer (6).
       5 TORQUE the bolt (5) to between 27 and 24.3 lbf.in (0.31 and 0.27 m.daN )
T.
       6 Attach the component cooling tube and the clamp to the ECS starter duct (9) with the bolt (1) and the washer (2).
       7 TORQUE the bolt (1) to between 70 and 63 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.71 m.daN )
T.
     (o) Attach the ECS sense lines to the ECS ducts, the PRV and the HPV (
Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-49-400-823).
     (p) Attach the IDG EDP harness to the spring clip of the ECS LP duct (27).
     (q) Connect the ECS harness to the ECS ducts, the PRV and the HPV (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-61-400-801).
