4. Procedure
Subtask 36-11-51-420-060-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the HPV
   (1) If you use the APU to energize the electrical circuits, stop the APU:
   (2) In the cockpit, on the SD bleed page:
     (a) Make sure that the pressure and the temperature of the bleed-air duct system are in ambient conditions.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM IS DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE YOU START WORK. PRESSURIZED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE UNIT UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (3) Install the HPV (1) as follows:
     (a) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION from the HPV (1), harness assembly connector (4000HA-A), HPV muscle sense-tube and HP duct.
     (b) Visually examine the HPV (1) as follows:
1 Look for the unwanted objects, cracks, corrosion, other damage and correct assembly.
     (c) Put the new AIPC 36-11-86-20-270 SEAL (3) with the HPV (1) in the correct position on the HP duct.
     (d) Make sure that the flow direction arrow on the valve is pointed in the correct direction.
     (e) Attach the HPV (1) to the HP duct with the V-band coupling (2) as follows:
1 Put the V-band coupling (2) latch adjacent to the latch arrow on the HP duct.
2 Make sure that you do not torque the V-band coupling (2) at this time.
     (f) Install the mid-Y duct and the intermediate pressure check-valve (
Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-41-400-802):
1 Do not install the HPV muscle sense-tube at this time.
2 Do not tighten the V-band couplings, bolts, nuts, pylon HPV sense-tube or link assemblies at this time.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: DO NOT GET THE ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND IN THE SENSE LINES. MAKE SURE THAT YOU APPLY THE ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND ONLY TO THE THREADS OF THE FITTINGS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE VALVES CAN OCCUR.
     (g) Apply a layer of anti-seize compound (Material No.PU5-0005) or Royco 81 MS Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005A) or PT 605 Anti-Seize Compound (Material No.PU5-0005B) to the threads of the fittings on the HPV muscle sense-tube, the HPV (1) and the mid-Y duct.
     (h) Carefully install the HPV muscle sense-tube on the HPV (1) and the mid-Y duct:
1 Make sure that you do not torque the muscle sense-tube fittings at this time.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THERE IS NO TENSION ON THE LINK ASSEMBLIES FOR THE ECS DUCTS
  • THE MATING SURFACES BETWEEN THE DUCTS CORRECTLY ALIGN.
TENSION AND INCORRECT ALIGNMENT CAN CAUSE AIR LEAKAGE, WHICH CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
     (i) As necessary, adjust the HPV (1), Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV), Environmental Control System (ECS) ducts and sense lines to remove the load on the ECS system (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-49-400-822) and (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-49-400-823).
CAUTION: USE A SECOND WRENCH TO HOLD THE MATING PARTS WHEN YOU LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE TUBE OR HOSE NUTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN TWIST THE TUBES OR HOSES OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
     (j) Torque the HPV muscle sense-tube-fittings (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-49-400-823).
     (k) Torque the V-band couplings, bolts, nuts, link assemblies and pylon HPV sense-tube-fitting (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-41-400-802).
     (l) Put the V-band coupling (2) in the approximate position. Refer to sheet 2 in the Figure.
     (m) Tighten the V-band coupling (2) that attaches the HPV (1) as follows:
       1 TORQUE the V-band coupling (2) to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN ) T.
2 Tap around the outer surface of the V-band coupling (2) with a HAMMER - FIBER.
       3 TORQUE the V-band coupling (2) again to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
T.
4 Tap around the outer surface of the V-band coupling (2) again with a HAMMER - FIBER.
       5 TORQUE the V-band coupling (2) a third time to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
T.
6 Tap around the outer surface of the V-band coupling (2) again with a HAMMER - FIBER.
       7 TORQUE the V-band coupling (2) to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
T.
8 Make sure that the two full threads are shown on the V-band coupling (2).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR IS CLEAN BEFORE YOU CONNECT IT. DIRTY ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE THRUST REVERSER PROBLEMS.
CAUTION: USE TEFLON-JAWED PLIERS TO LOOSEN/TIGHTEN ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. DO NOT USE METAL-JAWED PLIERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN OCCUR.
     (n) Connect the ECS electrical harness as follows:
1 Make sure that the electrical connector is clean and in the correct condition.
2 Connect the ECS harness connector (4000HA-A) to the HPV (1).
3 Tighten the connector finger as follows:
a Turn the connector 1/4 turn more with the PLIERS - CONNECTOR, JAW, SOFT.
     (o) Make sure that the HPV (1), pylon HPV sense-tube, PRV muscle sense-tube and HPV muscle sense-tube are correctly installed as follows:
1 Make sure that the HPV (1), pylon HPV sense-tube, PRV muscle sense-tube and HPV muscle sense-tube are not damaged.
2 Make sure that the V-band coupling (2) is in the correct position and correctly engages and aligns with the HPV (1) and the adjacent ducts.
3 Make sure that the HPV (1), the mid-Y duct and the HP duct are correctly aligned.
4 Make sure that the V-band couplings are engaged in the correct position.
