3. Job Set-up
NOTE: A cavitation condition of the engine pump is possible when the engine pump operates with the engine pump fire-valve closed (if you set the ENG 1 (2) FIRE P/BSW on the Eng/APU fire panel), or with no fluid in the reservoir (ECAM HYD system page). This procedure can also apply if there is a indication of particles (from a defective EDP) released in the system (e.g. indication found during troubleshooting or while examine pump low pressure or overheat).

4. Procedure
Subtask 29-00-00-281-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do a check of the engine pumps for a possible cavitation condition
NOTE: Two procedures are included here to do a check after an engine pump operation for more than 10 minutes in a possible cavitation condition. Each procedure is applicable for a different set of conditions. Only do the procedure that is applicable for the conditions you find.
   (1) Do the subsequent procedure if the engine pump has operated for more than 10 minutes:
  • With a closed engine pump fire valve, or
  • With no fluid in the reservoir (ECAM HYD system page) or RSVR LO LVL warning on the upper ECAM DU and unknown fluid level.
NOTE: There are no time limits if:
  • The engine pump is set to OFF (ENG 1 (2) PUMP FAULT/OFF P/BSW on panel 40VU), with
  • The engine-pump fire valve open and there is fluid in the reservoir.
     (a) Replace the case drain filter (Ref. AMM TASK 29-11-43-610-041) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-13-43-610-041).
     (b) Do a check for metallic particles in the filter bowl and the filter of the hydraulic control unit of the thrust reverser on related unit.
     (c) If you find the DPI extended or abnormal particles in filter or bowl:
1 Flush the hydraulic control unit line (Ref. AMM TASK 12-36-29-170-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-36-29-170-002).
2 Replace the filter of the hydraulic control unit of the thrust reverser (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-51-920-001).
     (d) Check HP filter DPI for extension and do a check for particles in the HP filter bowl and the filter of the related line.
     (e) If you find the DPI extended or abnormal particles in filter or bowl:
1 Replace the HP filter (Ref. AMM TASK 29-11-45-610-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 29-13-45-610-001).
2 Flush the related HP hydraulic lines (Ref. AMM TASK 12-36-29-170-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-36-29-170-002).
     (f) Check LP filter DPI for extension and do a check for particles in the LP filter bowl and the filter of the related line.
     (g) If you find the DPI extended or abnormal particles in filter or bowl:
1 Replace the LP filter (Ref. AMM TASK 29-11-44-610-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 29-13-44-610-001).
     (h) Replace the related engine pump (Ref. AMM TASK 29-11-51-000-041) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-11-51-400-041) or (Ref. AMM TASK 29-13-51-000-004) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-13-51-400-004).
1 Do the operational test of the related hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-11-00-710-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 29-13-00-710-002).
2 Do a check for DPIs extension, filters and filter bowls for abnormal particles.
3 If you find a DPI extended or abnormal particles:
  • Replace the related filter.
   (2) Do the subsequent procedure, after an engine pump operation for more than 10 minutes:
  • With an open engine pump fire-valve, and
  • With fluid in the reservoir (index above the minimum gageable level on the ECAM HYD system page) although the RSVR LO LVL warning on the upper ECAM DU
     (a) Do a check for particles:
  • In the filter bowl and the filter of the hydraulic control unit of the thrust reverser
  • In the case-drain filter bowl and the filter of the related engine pump
  • In the HP filter bowl and the filter of the related system.
     (b) If you find particles:
1 Do the steps (1) (a) thru (e) of this procedure.
     (c) If you do not find particles:

2 During the test, slowly move one flight control surface at a time.
3 Make sure that the system pressure is more than 2800 psi (193.1 bar) during the test:
     (d) If the system pressure is less than 2800 psi (193.1 bar) during the test:
1 Do the steps (1) (a) thru (e) of this procedure.
