WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-32-00-100-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation before inspection
   (1) Do not discard a part until you are sure there are no repairs available. If you reject a part and no repair is available, contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) for disposition.
   (2) Clean the inspection parts and surrounding areas with a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) to remove unwanted debris, dirt and grease.

B. Detailed Visual Inspection of the Thrust Reverser Latch Assemblies and Surrounding Structure
   (1) Do a detailed visual inspection of the thrust reverser latch assemblies and surrounding structure. Use the inspection FLASHLIGHT and MAGNIFYING GLASS POWER 10X.
   (2) Remove the left aft latch beam thermal blanket to get access to the latch 2 (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-000-803).
   (3) Remove the left lower aft barrel thermal blanket to get access to the latch 5 (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-000-803).
   (4) Examine the latch 1A, latch 1B, latch 2, latch 3, latch 4 and latch 5 assemblies.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-35-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-35-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
   (5) Examine the inner and outer failsafe pins, bolts, washers and nuts.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-35-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-35-400-801).
   (6) Examine 5.9 in. (150 mm) of the surrounding structure of the latch 1A, latch 1B, latch 2, latch 3, latch 4 and latch 5.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual for allowable damage limits and repair procedures or contact UTAS for disposition.

C. Detailed Visual Inspection of the Thrust Reverser Keepers and Surrounding Structure
   (1) Do a detailed visual inspection of the thrust reverser keepers and surrounding structure. Use the inspection FLASHLIGHT and MAGNIFYING GLASS POWER 10X.
   (2) Remove the right aft latch beam thermal blanket to get access to the latch 2 keeper (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-71-000-802).
   (3) Remove the right lower aft barrel thermal blanket to get access to the latch 5 keeper (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-71-000-802).
   (4) Examine the inner and outer failsafe pins, bolts, washers, and nuts.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-75-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-75-400-802).
   (5) Examine 5.9 in. (150 mm) of the surrounding structure of the keepers on the latch beam.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual for allowable damage limits and repair procedures or contact UTAS for disposition.

D. Detailed Visual Inspection of the Bifurcation Latch System (BLS) and Surrounding Structure
   (1) Do a detailed visual inspection of the bifurcation latch system (BLS) and surrounding structure. Use the inspection FLASHLIGHT and MAGNIFYING GLASS POWER 10X.
   (2) Remove the lower forward barrel thermal blanket from the left thrust reverser (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-000-803).
   (3) Examine the BLS receiver and BLS latch.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-000-805) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-400-805) or contact UTAS for disposition.
   (4) Examine 5.9 in. (150 mm) of the surrounding structure of the BLS receiver and BLS latch.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, Refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 541600 for disposition.
   (5) Remove the right lower forward barrel thermal blanket from the right thrust reverser (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-71-000-802).
   (6) Examine the BLS pin.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-73-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-73-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
   (7) Examine 5.9 in. (150 mm) of the surrounding structure of the BLS pin.
     (a) Look for gouges, scratches and deterioration of protection.
     (b) If you find damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual for allowable damage limits and repair procedures or contact UTAS for disposition.

E. Install the left lower aft barrel thermal blanket, lower forward barrel thermal blanket and left aft latch beam thermal blanket on the left thrust reverser (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-400-803).

F. Install the right lower aft barrel thermal blanket, right lower aft barrel thermal blanket and right aft latch beam thermal blanket on the right thrust reverser (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-400-803).
