C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Ground Maintenance
Subtask 78-32-35-010-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). D. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the thrust-reverser cowl-door are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the thrust-reverser cowl-door are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-32-35-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Installation of the Thrust Reverser Latches
(1) Install the No. 1A and No. 1B latches on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 1A latch (3) and No. 1B latch (4) on the latch beam with the outer fail-safe pin (2).
(b) Make sure that you put the outer fail-safe pin (2) into the latch beam from the forward side.
(c) Attach the outer fail-safe pin (2) with the pin retention cap (5) and the nut (6).
(d) TORQUE the nut (6) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )

(e) Put the inner fail-safe pin (1) in the outer fail-safe pin (2).
(f) Attach the inner fail-safe pin (1) with the washer (7) and the nut (8).
(g) TORQUE the nut (8) to between 70 and 60 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.68 m.daN )
.
(2) Install the No. 2 latch on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 2 latch (9) on the latch beam with the bolt (10), the washers (11) and (12) and the nut (13).
(b) Make sure that you put the bolt (10) into the forward hole of the latch beam.
(c) Make sure that the washer (11) is adjacent to the head of the bolt (10) and the washer (12) is adjacent to the nut (13).
(d) TORQUE the nut (13) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )
.
(e) Install the thermal insulation blanket adjacent to the No. 2 latch (9) if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-400-803).
(3) Install the No. 3 latch on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 3 latch (17) to the latch beam with the bolt (16), the washers (20) and (21), and the nut (22).
(b) Make sure that you put the bolt (16) into the aft hole of the latch beam.
(c) Make sure that the washer (20) is adjacent to the head of the bolt (16) and the washer (21) is adjacent to the nut (22).
(d) TORQUE the nut (22) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )
.
(4) Install the track lock cover (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-38-400-801).
(5) Install the No. 4 latch on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 4 latch (26) to the latch beam with the bolt (25), the washers (27) and (28) and the nut (29).
(b) Make sure that you put the bolt (25) into the forward hole of the latch beam.
(c) Make sure that the washer (27) is adjacent to the head of the bolt (25) and the washer (28) is adjacent to the nut (29).
(d) TORQUE the nut (29) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )
.
(e) Install the panel (24) to the latch beam.
1 Clean the mating surfaces with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and thePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl .
2 Remove thePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries.
4 Let the release agent (Material No.PU5-0004) or alternate fully dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
5 Examine sealant on the latch beam. If sealant is damaged or missing, do the following:
a Remove sealant from the latch beam with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
b Clean the mating surfaces of the latch beam with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and thePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl .
c Remove thePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries.
6 Install the panel (24) to the latch beam with the four bolts (23).
7 TORQUE the bolts (23) to between 50 and 45 lbf.in (0.57 and 0.51 m.daN )
.
8 If sealant was damaged or missing, apply the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternate sealant (Material No.PU3-0005A) or alternate sealant (Material No.PU3-0005B) in the spaces between the panel (24) and latch beam.
9 Remove the unwanted PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternate with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) .
10 Let the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternate fully dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(6) Install the No. 5 latch on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 5 latch (30) on the core cowl with the bolt (31), the washers (32) and (33), and the nut (34).
(b) Make sure that you put the bolt (31) into the aft hole of the core cowl.
(c) Make sure that the washer (32) is adjacent to the head of the bolt (31).
(d) Make sure that the washer (33) is adjacent to the nut (34).
(e) TORQUE the nut (34) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )

(f) Install the thermal insulation blanket adjacent to the No. 5 latch as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-400-803).
(7) Adjust the latches (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-35-820-801).
5. Close-up(1) Install the No. 1A and No. 1B latches on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 1A latch (3) and No. 1B latch (4) on the latch beam with the outer fail-safe pin (2).
(b) Make sure that you put the outer fail-safe pin (2) into the latch beam from the forward side.
(c) Attach the outer fail-safe pin (2) with the pin retention cap (5) and the nut (6).
(d) TORQUE the nut (6) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )
. (e) Put the inner fail-safe pin (1) in the outer fail-safe pin (2).
(f) Attach the inner fail-safe pin (1) with the washer (7) and the nut (8).

. (e) Install the thermal insulation blanket adjacent to the No. 2 latch (9) if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-400-803).
(3) Install the No. 3 latch on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 3 latch (17) to the latch beam with the bolt (16), the washers (20) and (21), and the nut (22).
(b) Make sure that you put the bolt (16) into the aft hole of the latch beam.
(c) Make sure that the washer (20) is adjacent to the head of the bolt (16) and the washer (21) is adjacent to the nut (22).
(d) TORQUE the nut (22) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )
. (4) Install the track lock cover (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-38-400-801).
(5) Install the No. 4 latch on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 4 latch (26) to the latch beam with the bolt (25), the washers (27) and (28) and the nut (29).
(b) Make sure that you put the bolt (25) into the forward hole of the latch beam.
(c) Make sure that the washer (27) is adjacent to the head of the bolt (25) and the washer (28) is adjacent to the nut (29).
(d) TORQUE the nut (29) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )
. (e) Install the panel (24) to the latch beam.

CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE RELEASE AGENT DOES NOT GET ON OTHER AREAS OF THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR.
APPLY THE RELEASE AGENT AWAY FROM THE DOOR OR PUT MASKING TAPE ON THE ADJACENT AREAS.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE OTHER SURFACES CAN OCCUR.
3 Apply two layers of the release agent (Material No.PU5-0004) or alternate release agent (Material No.PU5-0004A) or alternate release agent (Material No.PU5-0004B) to the mating surfaces of the panel (24). 4 Let the release agent (Material No.PU5-0004) or alternate fully dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
5 Examine sealant on the latch beam. If sealant is damaged or missing, do the following:
a Remove sealant from the latch beam with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
b Clean the mating surfaces of the latch beam with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and the

6 Install the panel (24) to the latch beam with the four bolts (23).
7 TORQUE the bolts (23) to between 50 and 45 lbf.in (0.57 and 0.51 m.daN )
. 8 If sealant was damaged or missing, apply the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternate sealant (Material No.PU3-0005A) or alternate sealant (Material No.PU3-0005B) in the spaces between the panel (24) and latch beam.
9 Remove the unwanted PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternate with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) .
10 Let the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternate fully dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(6) Install the No. 5 latch on the left thrust reverser.
(a) Attach the No. 5 latch (30) on the core cowl with the bolt (31), the washers (32) and (33), and the nut (34).
(b) Make sure that you put the bolt (31) into the aft hole of the core cowl.
(c) Make sure that the washer (32) is adjacent to the head of the bolt (31).
(d) Make sure that the washer (33) is adjacent to the nut (34).
(e) TORQUE the nut (34) to between 200 and 175 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.98 m.daN )
. (f) Install the thermal insulation blanket adjacent to the No. 5 latch as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-400-803).
(7) Adjust the latches (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-35-820-801).

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the thrust-reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802):
