MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THE DEACTIVATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER.
IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS PROCEDURE, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED OPERATION AND THUS OF INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

A. Removal of the Right Thrust Reverser Thermal Insulation Blankets
(a) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent deflector (6) on the zone vent tube on the right upper forward barrel blanket (1).
(b) Remove the zone vent deflector (6).
(c) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent deflector (5) on the zone vent tube on the right upper forward barrel blanket (1).
(d) Remove the zone vent deflector (5).
(e) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (4) on the zone vent tube on the right upper forward barrel blanket (1).
(f) Remove the zone vent cover (4).
(2) Remove the upper forward barrel blanket (1) and the right upper bifurcation bumper blanket (7).
(a) Remove the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9) and the 12 washers (10) from the right upper bifurcation bumper blanket (7).
(c) Remove the upper bifurcation bumper blanket (7).
(d) Remove the 23 retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the upper forward barrel blanket (1) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(e) Move the edges of the upper forward barrel blanket (1) from under the retainers for the forward and top seals.
(f) Remove the upper forward barrel blanket (1).
(3) Remove the ACC seal from the right upper aft barrel blanket (11) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-000-802).
(4) Remove the covers on the vents on the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(a) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (13) on the zone vent tube on the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(b) Remove the zone vent cover (13).
(c) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (12) on the zone vent tube on the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(d) Remove the zone vent cover (12).
(5) Remove the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(a) Remove the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9) and the 12 washers (10) from the right upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(c) Move the top edges of the upper aft barrel blanket (11) from under the retainers for pylon seal support and the stiffener.
(d) Remove the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(6) Remove the aft latch beam blanket (14).
(a) Remove the six retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the aft latch beam blanket (14) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(b) Move the edge of the aft latch beam blanket (14) from under the support.
(c) Remove the aft latch beam blanket (14).
(7) Remove the covers on the vents on the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
(a) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (15) on the zone vent tube on the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
(b) Remove the zone vent cover (15).
(c) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (20) on the zone vent tube on the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
(d) Remove the zone vent cover (20).

(e) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent deflector assembly (17) on the zone vent tube on the lower forward barrel blanket (16).
(f) Remove the zone vent deflector assembly (17) and the two washers (25) under the deflector assembly (17).

(8) Remove the bumper pad (9) and the fireshield bracket (26) from the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
(a) Remove the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9) and the 12 washers (10) from the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).

(9) Remove the lower forward barrel blanket (16).
(a) Remove the 20 retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the lower forward barrel blanket (16) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(b) Move the edge of the lower forward barrel blanket (16) from under the retainers for the forward seals.
(c) Remove the lower forward barrel blanket (16).

(b) Move the edge of the lower forward barrel blanket (27) from under the retainers for the forward seals.
(c) Remove the lower forward barrel blanket (27).

(11) Remove the two retainers (18) that attach the bifurcation latch system latch blanket (19) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(12) Remove the bifurcation latch system latch blanket (19).
(13) Remove the forward latch beam blanket (21).
(a) Remove the nut (22) and washer (23) that attach the forward latch beam blanket (21) to the panel.
(b) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the right forward latch beam blanket (21) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(c) Move the edge of the aft forward latch beam blanket (21) from under the retainer.
(d) Remove the forward latch beam blanket (21).
(14) Remove the lower aft barrel blanket (24).
(a) Remove the 15 retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the lower aft barrel blanket (24) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(b) Move the edge of the lower aft barrel blanket (24) out of the blanket retainer.
(c) Remove the lower aft barrel blanket (24).
(15) Installation of the protection covers
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET THE THERMAL INSULATION BLANKETS BECOME WET. FLUIDS CAN GO INTO THE VENT HOLES OF THE BLANKETS AND MAKE THE INSULATION UNSATISFACTORY.
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE THERMAL INSULATION BLANKETS. IF YOU DO NOT HOLD THE BLANKETS CORRECTLY, THEY CAN FOLD BECAUSE OF THEIR OWN WEIGHT.
DO NOT STEP ON OR PUT OBJECTS ON THE BLANKETS.
DO NOT PUT THE BLANKETS ON SURFACES THAT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
HOLD THE BLANKETS ON THEIR THICKEST PARTS.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE BLANKETS CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(1) Remove the covers on the vents on the upper forward barrel blanket (1). (a) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent deflector (6) on the zone vent tube on the right upper forward barrel blanket (1).
(b) Remove the zone vent deflector (6).
(c) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent deflector (5) on the zone vent tube on the right upper forward barrel blanket (1).
(d) Remove the zone vent deflector (5).
(e) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (4) on the zone vent tube on the right upper forward barrel blanket (1).
(f) Remove the zone vent cover (4).
(2) Remove the upper forward barrel blanket (1) and the right upper bifurcation bumper blanket (7).
(a) Remove the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9) and the 12 washers (10) from the right upper bifurcation bumper blanket (7).
NOTE: Keep the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9) and 12 washers (10) for installation. Record the number and location of washers (10).
(b) Remove the four retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the upper bifurcation bumper blanket (7) to the upper forward barrel blanket (1). (c) Remove the upper bifurcation bumper blanket (7).
(d) Remove the 23 retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the upper forward barrel blanket (1) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(e) Move the edges of the upper forward barrel blanket (1) from under the retainers for the forward and top seals.
(f) Remove the upper forward barrel blanket (1).
(3) Remove the ACC seal from the right upper aft barrel blanket (11) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-000-802).
(4) Remove the covers on the vents on the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(a) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (13) on the zone vent tube on the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(b) Remove the zone vent cover (13).
(c) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (12) on the zone vent tube on the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(d) Remove the zone vent cover (12).
(5) Remove the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(a) Remove the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9) and the 12 washers (10) from the right upper aft barrel blanket (11).
NOTE: Keep the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9), and the 12 washers (10) for installation. Record the number and location of the washer (10).
(b) Remove the 35 retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the upper aft barrel blanket (11) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser. (c) Move the top edges of the upper aft barrel blanket (11) from under the retainers for pylon seal support and the stiffener.
(d) Remove the upper aft barrel blanket (11).
(6) Remove the aft latch beam blanket (14).
(a) Remove the six retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the aft latch beam blanket (14) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(b) Move the edge of the aft latch beam blanket (14) from under the support.
(c) Remove the aft latch beam blanket (14).
(7) Remove the covers on the vents on the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
(a) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (15) on the zone vent tube on the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
(b) Remove the zone vent cover (15).
(c) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent cover (20) on the zone vent tube on the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
(d) Remove the zone vent cover (20).

(e) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the zone vent deflector assembly (17) on the zone vent tube on the lower forward barrel blanket (16).
(f) Remove the zone vent deflector assembly (17) and the two washers (25) under the deflector assembly (17).

(8) Remove the bumper pad (9) and the fireshield bracket (26) from the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
(a) Remove the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9) and the 12 washers (10) from the lower forward barrel blanket (16) or (27).
NOTE: Keep the bolt (8), the bumper pad (9) and the 12 washers (10) for installation. Record the number and location of the washers (10).

(9) Remove the lower forward barrel blanket (16).
(a) Remove the 20 retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the lower forward barrel blanket (16) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(b) Move the edge of the lower forward barrel blanket (16) from under the retainers for the forward seals.
(c) Remove the lower forward barrel blanket (16).

(11) Remove the two retainers (18) that attach the bifurcation latch system latch blanket (19) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(12) Remove the bifurcation latch system latch blanket (19).
(13) Remove the forward latch beam blanket (21).

(b) Remove the two retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the right forward latch beam blanket (21) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(c) Move the edge of the aft forward latch beam blanket (21) from under the retainer.
(d) Remove the forward latch beam blanket (21).
(14) Remove the lower aft barrel blanket (24).
(a) Remove the 15 retainers (2) and, if installed, the washers that attach the lower aft barrel blanket (24) to the inner fixed structure of the thrust reverser.
(b) Move the edge of the lower aft barrel blanket (24) out of the blanket retainer.
(c) Remove the lower aft barrel blanket (24).
(15) Installation of the protection covers
CAUTION:
INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
