3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-31-73-941-062-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (2) Make sure that the ground safety locks are installed on the landing-gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (3) On panel 400VU:
  • Make sure that the landing-gear control-lever 6GA is in the DOWN position
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing-gear and the NLG doors.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Green hydraulic system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001).
   (2) Disconnect the isolation coupling of the PTU (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-001).
   (3) If the electrical power is not necessary for other maintenance tasks, de-energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002). Then, it is not necessary to open the LGCIU circuit breakers.
   (4) If the electrical power is necessary, do the precautions for flight configuration (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001) before you open the LGCIU circuit breakers.

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-31-73-220-085-A
A. Dimensional Check
   (1) Measure and record the dimensions X and Z (System 1) for the proximity sensor 18GA:
  • Dimension X must be 6.5 mm (0.2559 in.) +/- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.)
  • Dimension Z must be 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.) +/- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.).
   (2) Measure and record the dimensions Z and X (System 1) for the proximity sensor 19GA:
  • Dimension Z must be 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.) +/- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.)
  • Dimension X must be 6.5 mm (0.2559 in.) +/- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.).
   (3) If the dimensions are incorrect, do the procedure that follows to adjust the NLG proximity sensors.

   (1) Lift the aircraft on jacks (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-003).

   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position below the applicable zone 123(124).
   (2) Make sure that a 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR is installed in each NLG door (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-002).

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
E. Preparation for Adjustment of the NLG Downlock Proximity Sensors 18GA (19GA)
NOTE: It is permitted to install a sensor target without a spacer/shim if the correct clearance can be set without the spacer/shim.
   (1) Make sure that the lock-link is on its mechanical stop.
   (2) If the dimension X for System 1 (18GA) is incorrect, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Make sure that the target mounting bracket (12) is in the correct condition.
     (b) Use a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove all sealant from the screws (8) and the washers (9).
     (c) Remove the lockwire from the screws (8) and discard it.
     (d) Remove the screws (8), the washers (9) and the target (10).
     (e) If installed, carefully remove the shim (11) with a WEDGE - NON METALLIC. Discard the shim.
   (3) If the dimension Z for System 1 (18GA) is incorrect, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Make sure that the sensor mounting bracket (2) is in the correct condition.
     (b) Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the proximity sensor (6).
     (c) Make sure the electrical connector (1) is in the correct condition.
     (d) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the applicable electrical connectors.
     (e) Use a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove all sealant from the nuts (3), the washers (4) and the screws (7).
     (f) Remove the nuts (3), the washers (4), the screws (7) and the proximity sensor (6).
     (g) If installed, carefully remove the shim (5) with a WEDGE - NON METALLIC. Discard the shim.
   (4) If the dimension Z for System 2 (19GA) is incorrect, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Make sure that the target mounting bracket (12) is in the correct condition.
     (b) Use a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove all sealant from the screws (16) and the washers (15).
     (c) Remove the lockwire from the screws (16) and discard it.
     (d) Remove the screws (16), the washers (15) and the target (14).
     (e) If installed, carefully remove the shim (13) with a WEDGE - NON METALLIC. Discard the shim.
   (5) If the dimension X for System 2 (19GA) is incorrect, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Make sure that the sensor mounting bracket (21) is in the correct condition.
     (b) Disconnect the electrical connector (17) from the proximity sensor (23).
     (c) Make sure the electrical connector (17) is in the correct condition.
     (d) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the applicable electrical connectors.
     (e) Use a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove all sealant from the nuts (19), the washers (20) and the screws (18).
     (f) Remove the nuts (19), the washers (20), the screws (18) and the proximity sensor (23).
     (g) If installed, carefully remove the shim (22) with a WEDGE - NON METALLIC. Discard the shim.

F. Adjustment of the NLG Downlock Proximity Sensors 18GA (19GA)
NOTE: It is permitted to install a sensor target without a spacer/shim if the correct clearance can be set without the spacer/shim. If a spacer/shim is necessary to set the correct clearance, do the procedure that follows.
   (1) To get the correct dimension X for System 1 (18GA), adjust the new AIPC 32-21-17-03-110 SHIM (11) as follows:
     (a) Temporarily install the shim (11) with the washers (9) and the screws (8).
     (b) Calculate the shim thickness (Dimension J):
  • Measure the dimension H
  • Measure the dimension K.
     (c) Use the formula that follows to check that the dimension H is 5.75 mm (0.2264 in.) +/- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.).

     (d) Put a mark on the shim to show its position.
     (e) Remove the screws (8), the washers (9) and the shim (11).
     (f) If the shim (11) was adjusted, do the work steps in Para 4.H.
   (2) To get the correct dimension Z for System 1 (18GA), adjust the new
AIPC 32-21-17-03-040 SHIM (5) as follows:
     (a) Temporarily install the shim (5) with the screws (7), the washers (4) and the nuts (3).
     (b) Calculate the shim thickness (Dimension G):
  • Measure the dimension E
  • Measure the dimension F.
     (c) Use the formula that follows to check that the dimension F is 35.5 mm (1.3976 in.) +/- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.).

     (d) Put a mark on the shim to show its position.
     (e) Remove the nuts (3), the washers (4), the screws (7) and the shim (5).
     (f) If the shim (5) was adjusted, do the work steps in Para 4.H.
   (3) To get the correct dimension Z for System 2 (19GA), adjust the new
AIPC 32-21-17-03-040 SHIM (22) as follows:
     (a) Temporarily install the shim (22) with the screws (18), the washers (20) and the nuts (19).
     (b) Calculate the shim thickness (Dimension P):
  • Measure the dimension Q
  • Measure the dimension R.
     (c) Use the formula that follows to check that the dimension R is 35.5 mm (1.3976 in.) +/- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.).

     (d) Put a mark on the shim to show its position.
     (e) Remove the nuts (19), the washers (20), the screws (18) and the shim (22).
     (f) If the shim (22) was adjusted, do the work steps in Para 4.H.
   (4) To get the correct dimension X for System 2 (19GA), adjust the new
AIPC 32-21-17-03-110 SHIM (13) as follows:
     (a) Temporarily install the shim (13) with the washers (15) and the screws (16).
     (b) Calculate the shim thickness (Dimension M):
  • Measure the dimension L
  • Measure the dimension N.
     (c) Use the formula that follows to check that the dimension N is 5.75 mm (0.2264 in.) +/- 0.1 mm (0.0039 in.).

     (d) Put a mark on the shim to show its position.
     (e) Remove the screws (16), the washers (15) and the shim (13).
     (f) If the shim (13) was adjusted, do the work steps in Para 4.H.

G. Preparation of the Shims After Material Removal
   (1) Before installation of the applicable shim(s), do the steps that follow:
     (a) Clean the applicable shim(s) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.
08BBB1) .
     (b) Flush the applicable shim(s) with cold water.
WARNING: DO NOT LET COMPRESSED GAS TOUCH YOUR SKIN. THE GAS CAN GO THROUGH THE SKIN AND MAKE BUBBLES IN THE BLOOD. THIS CONDITION CAN KILL YOU.
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS.
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
     (c) Flush the applicable shim(s) with hot water and then dry them with compressed air.

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
H. Installation of the NLG Downlock Proximity-Sensors
NOTE: It is permitted to install a sensor target without a spacer and (or) shim if you can set the correct clearance without the spacer and (or) shim.
   (1) For system 1 (18GA), if you adjusted dimension X, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating faces of:
  • The target (10)
  • The shim (11)
  • The target mounting bracket (12).
     (b) Make sure that the shim (11), if necessary, is installed in the correct position.
     (c) Apply Epoxy Adhesive-- - Legacy 3 (Material No.05EML7) to the two sides of the shim (11).
     (d) If necessary, put the shim (11) in position on the target mounting bracket (12).
     (e) Align the target (10) with the shim (11), if installed, and install the washers (9) and the screws (8).
     (f) Tighten the screws (8).
     (g) Safety the screws (8) with the 14QDC1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) CRES -.
     (h) Apply a layer of the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.06AAC5) to the screws (8) and the washers (9).
   (2) For system 1 (18GA), if you adjusted dimension Z, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating faces of:
  • The sensor (6)
  • The shim (5), if installed
  • The sensor mounting bracket (2).
     (b) Make sure that the shim (5), if necessary, is installed in the correct position.
     (c) Apply Epoxy Adhesive-- - Legacy 3 (Material No.05EML7) to the two sides of the shim (5).
     (d) If necessary, put the shim (5) in position on the sensor mounting bracket (2).
     (e) Align the sensor (6) with the shim (5), if installed, and install the screws (7), the washers (4) and the nuts (3).
     (f) Tighten the nuts (3).
     (g) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from the applicable electrical connectors.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (1) to the proximity sensor (6).
     (i) Apply a layer of the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.06AAC5) to the screws (7), the washers (4) and the nuts (3).
   (3) For system 2 (19GA), if you adjusted dimension Z, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating faces of:
  • The sensor (23)
  • The shim (22), if installed
  • The sensor mounting bracket (21).
     (b) Make sure that the shim (22), if necessary, is installed in the correct position.
     (c) Apply Epoxy Adhesive-- - Legacy 3 (Material No.05EML7) to the two sides of the shim (22).
     (d) If necessary, put the shim (22) in position on the sensor mounting bracket (21).
     (e) Align the sensor (23) with the shim (22) and install the screws (18), the washers (20) and the nuts (19).
     (f) Tighten the nuts (19).
     (g) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from the applicable electrical connectors.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (17) to the proximity sensor (23).
     (i) Apply a layer of the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.06AAC5) to the screws (18), the washers (20) and the nuts (19).
   (4) For system 2 (19GA), if you adjusted dimension X, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the mating faces of:
  • The target (14)
  • The shim (13), if installed
  • The target mounting bracket (12).
     (b) Make sure that the shim (13), if necessary, is installed in the correct position.
     (c) Apply Epoxy Adhesive-- - Legacy 3 (Material No.05EML7) to the two sides of the shim (13).
     (d) If necessary, put the shim (13) in position on the target mounting bracket (12).
     (e) Align the target (14) with the shim (13) and install the washers (15) and the screws (16).
     (f) Tighten the screws (16).
     (g) Safety the screws (16) with the 14QDC1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) CRES -.
     (h) Apply a layer of the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.06AAC5) to the screws (16) and the washers (15).

M. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) If you did the flight configuration precautions, put the aircraft back to the ground configuration (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-002).
   (2) Connect the isolation coupling of the PTU (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-002).
   (3) Pressurize the applicable hydraulic reservoirs (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-002).

   (1) Remove the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR from each of the NLG doors.
   (2) Close the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-410-001).

B. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the SAFETY BARRIER(S).
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
