WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (1) Remove the top charging valve assembly as follows:
     (a) Remove the charging valve (42) from the inflation valve (41).
     (b) Remove the bolts (44), the spacers (45) and the inflation valve (41).
     (c) Remove and discard the packings (40) and the packing retainer (39) from the inflation valve (41).
   (2) Remove the spare-seal activating-valve assembly as follows:
     (a) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the housing (54) to collect the hydraulic fluid.
     (b) Remove and discard the cotter pins (55). Remove the washers (56) and the pin (57).
     (c) Remove and discard the lockwire from the valve stem (53).
     (d) Carefully remove the valve stem (53) from the housing (54).
     (e) Make sure that you drain the hydraulic fluid from the housing (54) into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
     (f) Remove and discard the packing retainer (51) and the O-ring (52) from the valve stem (53).
   (3) Disconnect the electrical connector (83) of the 1M system harness at the axle interface. Put a CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected end.
   (4) Disconnect the electrical connector (87) of the 2M system harness at the axle interface (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-43-000-003). Put a CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected end.
   (5) Disconnect the slave link assembly as follows:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (19).
     (b) Remove the nuts (18), the washers (17), the sleeves (16) and the bolts (15).
     (c) Move the bottom slave link (21) away from the shock absorber (1) together with:
  • The fitting (20)
  • The electrical harness (23)
  • The flexible hydraulic lines (22).
     (d) Make sure that you do not make kinks in the electrical harness (23) or the flexible hydraulic lines (22). Safety them in this position and give them protection.
   (6) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position below the shock absorber (1).

I. Removal of the MLG Shock Absorber Assembly
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE MLG SHOCK-ABSORBER. ITS WEIGHT CAN BE AS MUCH AS 118kg (260lb).
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
  • GET MEDICAL AID.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE FLUID DOES NOT STAY ON THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE. IF THE FLUID GETS ON THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE, WASH IT OFF IMMEDIATELY WITH SOAP AND WATER.
   (1) Use a FORKLIFT 1000KG (2200 LB), LIFT ANGLE +10 TO -10 DEG to compress the shock absorber (1) fully into the MLG leg. Make sure that you lift the shock absorber (1) along the centerline of the MLG main fitting.
NOTE: Hydraulic oil will come from the charging valve hole.
   (2) Hold the shock absorber (1) in this position.
   (3) Disconnect the top and bottom torque links from the shock absorber (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-27-000-001).
   (4) Remove and discard the cotter pin (36).
   (5) Remove the nut (35), the washer (34), the bolt (31), the washer (32) and the collar (33).
   (6) Remove the pin (30) and the washer (38).
   (7) Release the gland housing (50) as follows:
     (a) Remove the sealant from the tab washers (47) and the retaining pins (46) with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
     (b) Release the tab washers (47).
     (c) Remove the retaining pins (46).
     (d) Remove and discard the tab washers (47).
   (8) Make sure that the gland housing (50) does not fall out of the shock absorber (1).
   (9) Carefully lower the shock absorber (1) along the centerline of the MLG main fitting and remove it from the MLG leg. Make sure that the shock absorber (1) does not fall when it comes out of the MLG leg.
NOTE: Hydraulic fluid will come from the shock absorber (1).
   (10) Remove and discard the packing (60), the seal (61), the packings (49) and the packing retainers (48).
   (11) If necessary, remove the MLG gland-seals (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-13-000-003).
   (12) Use the 460006211 LIFTING-TACKLE to install the MLG shock absorber in the 460007240 TROLLEY-BUILD.
