CAUTION:
DO NOT OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS WHEN THE TRANSLATING COWL IS DEPLOYED.
DO NOT DEPLOY THE TRANSLATING COWL WHEN THRUST REVERSER COWLS ARE OPEN.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS CAN TOUCH THE WING AND DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
DO NOT OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER IF YOU CANNOT STOW THE TRANSLATING COWL, AND THE TRANSLATING COWL IS DEPLOYED MORE THAN 10 INCHES (254 MM). IF YOU DO, THE TRANSLATING COWL CAN HIT THE WING AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 78-32-00-010-166-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
Subtask 78-32-00-010-167-A WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807). D. Get Access
(1) Manually deploy the translating cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801).
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
4. Procedure(1) Manually deploy the translating cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801).
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
Subtask 78-32-00-220-052-A
A. Detailed Inspection of the Cascades
(a) Do the inspection for:
(c) If you find loose or missing screws:
1 Install the loose or missing screws (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-400-806).
(2) Inspection of the inner side of the cascade (1):
(a) Do an inspection with the MIRROR - INSPECTION or the BORESCOPE SET through the holes of the cascade (1) for:
(c) If you find damage (cracks or impacts), contact SAFRAN Nacelles.
1 Replace the cascade (1), if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-000-806) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-400-806).
Subtask 78-32-00-220-053-A NOTE: You can use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION for the inspection.
NOTE: This procedure is given for one cascade. It is also applicable for the other cascades on the left and right thrust reversers.
(1) Get access to the outer side of the cascade (1): (a) Do the inspection for:
- Cracks
- Impacts
- Nicks
- Scratches
- Gouges
- Delaminations
- Loose or missing screws.
(c) If you find loose or missing screws:
1 Install the loose or missing screws (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-400-806).
(2) Inspection of the inner side of the cascade (1):
(a) Do an inspection with the MIRROR - INSPECTION or the BORESCOPE SET through the holes of the cascade (1) for:
- Cracks
- Impacts
- Nicks
- Scratches
- Gouges
- Delaminations.
(c) If you find damage (cracks or impacts), contact SAFRAN Nacelles.
1 Replace the cascade (1), if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-000-806) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-400-806).
B. Detailed Inspection of the Blocker Doors (Aft Skin)
(2) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl door is closed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806).
(3) Get access to the work area from the aft side of the engine.
(4) Install the MAT - PROTECTIVE on the lower internal location of the C-duct.
(5) Make sure that the hinge fittings (3) of the blocker doors (2) are attached correctly.
(6) Make sure that the spring fitting (4) of the blocker doors (2) is attached correctly.
(7) Do a detailed inspection of the blocker door assembly for:
(b) If you find other damage, contact SAFRAN Nacelles.
Subtask 78-32-00-220-054-A NOTE: This procedure is given for one blocker door. It is also applicable for the other blocker doors on the left and right thrust reversers.
(1) Make sure that the translating cowl is deployed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801). (2) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl door is closed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806).
(3) Get access to the work area from the aft side of the engine.
(4) Install the MAT - PROTECTIVE on the lower internal location of the C-duct.
(5) Make sure that the hinge fittings (3) of the blocker doors (2) are attached correctly.
(6) Make sure that the spring fitting (4) of the blocker doors (2) is attached correctly.
(7) Do a detailed inspection of the blocker door assembly for:
- Damage on the hinge fittings (3) and the spring fitting (4)
- Missing fasteners on the hinge fittings (3) and the spring fitting (4)
- Nicks, scratches, gouges or cracks on the aft skin of the blocker door (2).
(b) If you find other damage, contact SAFRAN Nacelles.
C. Detail Inspection of the Link Arms and the Blocker Doors (Front Skin)
(2) Open the thrust reverser cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

(3) Examine the clearance of the blocker door (2):
(a) (b) Compare with the other blocker doors (2) to make sure that the clearance of the applicable blocker door (2) is satisfactory.
(c) If the clearance of the blocker door (2) is more than the normal clearance:
1 Loosen the nuts (5) and tighten them to make sure that the installation is correct (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-804).
(4) Disconnect the link arm (6) from the link arm fitting (9) of the inner fixed structure (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-804).
(5) Do a detail inspection of the blocker door (2) for:
(b) If you find crack damage, contact SAFRAN Nacelles.
(6) Do a detail inspection of the link arm ball bearings (7) on the two ends of the link arm (6) for:
(b) If you cannot remove the corrosion or if link arm ball bearings (7) are damaged or if you find abnormal free play, replace the link arm (6) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-804) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-804).
(7) Do a detail inspection of the link arm for:
Subtask 78-32-00-220-055-A NOTE: This procedure is given for one link arm. It is also applicable for the other link arms on left and right thrust reversers.
(1) Manually stow the translating cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-410-801). (2) Open the thrust reverser cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

(c) If the clearance of the blocker door (2) is more than the normal clearance:

(5) Do a detail inspection of the blocker door (2) for:
- Cracks
- Nicks
- Scratches
- Gouges.
(b) If you find crack damage, contact SAFRAN Nacelles.
(6) Do a detail inspection of the link arm ball bearings (7) on the two ends of the link arm (6) for:
- Damage
- Corrosion
- Abnormal free play.
(b) If you cannot remove the corrosion or if link arm ball bearings (7) are damaged or if you find abnormal free play, replace the link arm (6) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-804) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-804).
(7) Do a detail inspection of the link arm for:
- Damaged painting.
D. Detail Inspection of the Link Arm Fittings
See Sheets 2 and 3 of the figure:
(2) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806).
(3) Disconnect the link arm fitting fairing (8) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-47-000-802).
(4) Do a detail inspection of the link arm fitting (9) for:
(5) Install the link arm fitting fairing (8) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-47-400-802).
(6) Connect the link arm (6) to the link arm fitting (9) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-804).
5. Close-upSee Sheets 2 and 3 of the figure:

(1) Make sure that the translating cowl is stowed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-410-801). (2) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806).
(3) Disconnect the link arm fitting fairing (8) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-47-000-802).
(4) Do a detail inspection of the link arm fitting (9) for:
- Corrosion
- Nicks
- Cracks
- Scratches
- Gouges
- Wear.
(5) Install the link arm fitting fairing (8) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-47-400-802).
(6) Connect the link arm (6) to the link arm fitting (9) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-804).

(1) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION.
(2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
