C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Nacelle Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser system is deactivated for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).
Subtask 78-32-43-010-081-A
D. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the translating cowl is deployed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position below the fan cowl if you removed an upper cascade (cascades No.1 thru No.5).
For the cascade number, refer to
   (3) Make sure that the hinge access panel and the slat clearance panel are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-45-000-801) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-15-000-801)
NOTE: Hinge access panel and slat clearance panel only have to be removed for access on cascade No. 1 or No.2 located on the applicable side of the engine.
   (4) Make sure that the slat clearance panel is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-15-000-801).
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-32-43-420-074-A
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE CASCADES IN THE CORRECT POSITION. TO DO THAT, REFER TO THE LOCATION AND PART NUMBER SHOWN ON THE ”CASCADE TYPE SPECIFIER” PLATE ON THE FORWARD FRAME AT 6 O’CLOCK. INCORRECT POSITION OF THE CASCADES CAN CAUSE UNSATISFACTORY OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER.
A. Installation of the Thrust Reverser Cascades
NOTE: The cascade configuration is different on Engine 1 and Engine 2. Refer to AIPC section 78-32-80 for each engine configuration.
   (1) If the 98N7830H004-000 AFT FRAME RETAINER KIT is installed, remove it. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (2) Lubricate the threads of the bolts (2) and the bolts (4) with the LUBRICATING OIL TURBINE ENGINE SYNT BASE (Material No.CPNCL00062) .
   (3) Install the cascade (3) as follows:
     (a) Put the cascade (3) in position on the thrust reverser as follows:
1 Put the aft edge of the cascade (3) inboard of the aft frame (7).
2 Move the forward edge of the cascade (3) inboard until it touches the forward frame (6).
3 Align the bolt holes in the cascade (3) with the nut plates in the thrust reverser.
     (b) Install the four bolts (4) and the washers (5) to attach the cascade (3) to the forward frame (6). Start with bolt hole No. 8 and continue in sequence to bolt hole Number (No.) 5.
NOTE: It is important to install the forward bolts before the aft bolts.
     (c) Install the four bolts (2) and the washers (1) to attach the cascade (3) to the aft frame (7). Start with bolt hole No. 4 and continue in sequence to bolt hole No. 1.
     (d) TORQUE the four forward bolts (4) to between 112.40 and 92.05 lbf.in (1.27 and 1.04 m.daN ) T.
     (e) TORQUE the four aft bolts (2) to between 43.8 and 35.8 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.40 m.daN )
T.
   (4) Examine the cascade configuration ID plate (8).
NOTE: If the cascades are not installed on the same engine position, you should change the cascades configuration.
     (a) Examine the last ”Current Configuration Engine” active on the cascade configuration ID plate (8).
NOTE: The last configuration is indicated by the non-crossed number engraved: 1 for Engine position 1 or 2 for Engine position 2.
     (b) If the number engraved is in accordance with the engine cascade installation, leave as is.
     (c) If the cascades are not installed on the same engine position, put a cross mark on the current active number and engrave the nacelle position (position 1 or position 2) with a VIBRO ENGRAVER in the first available box of the cascade configuration ID plate (8).
NOTE: The two cascade configuration ID plates (8) (one for the left thrust reverser cowl door and one for the right thrust reverser cowl door) must have the last same engraved nacelle position for a same engine.
NOTE: Engrave the nacelle position in the box starting from top to bottom then from left to right.
