3. Job Set-up
Subtask 78-32-47-941-051-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

D. Get Access
   (1) Manually deploy the translating cowl to 127 mm (5.00 in.) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801).
   (2) Lock the translating cowl.
   (3) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 78-32-47-020-053-A
A. Removal of the Link Arm Fitting-Fairing on the Left Thrust Reverser
NOTE: This procedure is given for one link arm fitting-fairing and is also applicable for the other link arm fitting-fairings on the left thrust reverser.
   (1) Disconnection of the link arm (6):
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (1).
     (b) Remove the nut (2) and the washer (3).
     (c) Remove the link arm bolt (4) and the link arm washer (5).
     (d) Disconnect the link arm (6).
   (2) Removal of the link arm fitting-fairing (8):
     (a) Remove the screw (7).
     (b) Push the link arm fitting-fairing (8) forward to disengage the aft bridge (9) of the fairing from the inner fixed-structure bracket (10).
     (c) Remove the link arm fitting-fairing (8).

B. Removal of the Link Arm Fitting-Fairing on the Right Thrust Reverser
NOTE: This procedure is given for one link arm fitting-fairing and is also applicable for the other link arm fitting-fairings on the right thrust reverser.
   (1) Disconnection of the link arm (16):
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (11).
     (b) Remove the nut (12) and the washer (13).
     (c) Remove the link arm bolt (14) and the link arm washer (15).
     (d) Disconnect the link arm (16).
   (2) Removal of the link arm fitting-fairing (18):
     (a) Remove the screw (17).
     (b) Push the link arm fitting-fairing (18) forward to disengage the aft bridge (19) of the fairing from the inner fixed-structure bracket (20).
     (c) Remove the link arm fitting-fairing (18).
