   (1) Do the EIS start procedure (upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).
   (2) On the ECAM CP, push (in) the WHEEL pushbutton switch and make sure that the WHEEL page shows on the ECAM lower DU.
   (3) Make sure that the ECAM lower DU shows the landing gear extended and locked.
   (4) On landing gear annunciator-panel 402VU, make sure that the three green triangles are on.
WARNING: DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGERS IN THE UPLOCK MECHANISM. THIS IS DANGEROUS.
   (5) Use the ROD - NON METALLIC to close the MLG uplocks.
NOTE: It is necessary to do this procedure for each retraction sequence that you will do.
CAUTION: REMOVE THE SAFETY STAY BEFORE YOU DO THE LANDING GEAR EXTENSION AND RETRACTION TESTS. DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE CAN OCCUR IF THE AIRCRAFT MOVES DURING THE TESTS.
   (6) Remove the safety stay at FR73/74.
   (7) Use the TIE WRAP(S) to install the 98F32304000000 TARGET-FALSE on:
  • Left MLG extension proximity-sensors 21GA and 23GA
  • Right MLG extension proximity-sensors 20GA and 22GA.
   (8) To retract the NLG only, do the steps that follow:
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE LANDING GEAR ARE CLEAR.
     (a) On panel 400VU, move the landing gear control-lever (6GA) to the UP position.
     (b) During the NLG retraction make sure that:
  • The NLG doors open
  • The NLG leg retracts
  • The NLG doors close and lock
  • The ECAM lower DU shows the NLG leg is up and locked and the NLG doors are closed and locked
  • On landing gear annunciator-panel 402VU, green triangle 9GB goes off.
NOTE: During the retraction of the NLG:
  • The red UNLK legend comes on when the NLG is not in the same position as the selector lever
  • The ECAM lower DU shows the change in the NLG position and the amber L/G CTL indication.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-33-00-720-063-A
A. Functional Test of the NLG Free-Fall Extension
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE LANDING GEAR ARE CLEAR.
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE GRAVITY GEAR EXTENSION HANDLE MORE THAN 3 FULL TURNS. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FREE FALL EXTENSION SYSTEM.
   (1) NLG Free-Fall Extension Test:
     (a) Set the ADIRU 1 or 3 to ON.
     (b) On panel 20VU, set the applicable IR1 or IR3 selector switch to the ATT position.
     (c) On panel 110VU, move the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle from the folded position.
     (d) Connect a SPRING BALANCE 5 DAN (12 LBF) to the end of the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle.
NOTE: When you use the spring balance, it must:
  • Be pulled at 90 DEG to the radius of the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle at a rate of one full turn every 5 seconds
  • Show a force of between 0.5 daN (1.12 lbf) and 2 daN (4 lbf).
NOTE: During the test procedure, monitor the time taken for the NLG to extend and downlock. This is the time taken from release of the leg from the uplock to when the NLG lock link goes fully over center.
NOTE: During this test the ECAM will show unwanted indications, which you can ignore.
NOTE: During this test make sure that the ECAM upper display does not show the message L/G LGCIU 1 (2) FAULT.
   (2) Do the test that follows:
ACTION
RESULT
1.On panel 110VU:
On the aircraft:

  • Turn the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle clockwise two full turns

  • If the NLG doors do not fully open, help them to fully open with your hand

NOTE: There are no aerodynamic effects on the doors during this test. This is why the doors do not always fully open.
  • At the end of the second turn the NLG doors have released and started to open
  • Make sure that the NLG doors are fully open, then turn the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle clockwise one full turn (to release the MLG and NLG legs from their uplocks)

  • At the end of the third turn the NLG leg has unlocked and started to extend

  • The amber colored UP LOCK messages related to the left and right MLG go out of view from the ECAM lower DU.
  • Make sure that the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle will not turn more than 3 turns. Do not use a force of more than 2 daN (4.5 lbf) when you turn the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle.

2.On the aircraft:
  • Monitor the time taken for the NLG leg to extend.

NOTE: You should be on the ground when you monitor this time. This time is measured from when the NLG leg starts to move, to the end of the downlock link movement.

On the aircraft:
  • The time taken must be 11.5 +/- 5 seconds.

On panel 402VU:
  • The green triangle 9GB on the L/G annunciator panel comes into view.

On the ECAM lower DU, after 30 seconds:
  • Two green triangles come into view
  • The three door symbols will show doors open (amber) or doors in transit (amber).

On the ECAM upper DU, after 30 seconds, these captions will come into view:
L/G DOOR NOT CLOSED
MAX SPEED 250/.60.
