Installation of the No. 4 Slat

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
(2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the slats.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position below the applicable zone 510(610).
(2) Make sure that the applicable access panel has been removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-006):
(a) For the left wing, the access panel 522NB
(b) For the right wing, the access panel 622NB.
(3) Make sure that the slats are fully extended (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-004).
(4) Make sure that the ground service network is de-energized (Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-862-001).
(5) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the flap/slat control lever, on panel 114VU.
(6) Make sure that the safety collar is removed from the circuit breakers 9CV and 11CV.
(7) Make sure that the applicable torque shaft has been removed (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-45-000-004).
(8) Make sure that the slat closing plate has been removed (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-69-000-001).
Subtask 27-84-66-865-053-A (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position below the applicable zone 510(610).
(2) Make sure that the applicable access panel has been removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-006):

A. Preparation of a Replacement Component
(1) Install the 98D27804009001 SLATS - SLING (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-400-001) or the 98F27508498000 HOIST-R I,FLAP SLAT.
Subtask 27-84-66-420-051-A (1) Install the 98D27804009001 SLATS - SLING (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-400-001) or the 98F27508498000 HOIST-R I,FLAP SLAT.
B. Preparation for Installation
(2) Clean the recess area of bolts using solvent and air dry.
(3) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the recess area of the stop-bolt (63).
(4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(5) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(6) If applicable, remove the lockwire:
(7) Remove the stop-bolt (63) and the washers (64) and (65), from the hold-down bracket (66):
(a) Keep the washers (64) and (65).
(8) Install the stop-bolt (63) in the hold down bracket (66):
(a) Tighten the stop-bolt (63) with your hand.
(9) Remove the nuts (19) and (42) and the locking plates (18) and (41).
Subtask 27-84-66-420-052-A WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
(1) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) . (2) Clean the recess area of bolts using solvent and air dry.
(3) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the recess area of the stop-bolt (63).
(4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(5) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(6) If applicable, remove the lockwire:
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Remove and discard the lockwire from the stop-bolt (63). (7) Remove the stop-bolt (63) and the washers (64) and (65), from the hold-down bracket (66):
(a) Keep the washers (64) and (65).
(8) Install the stop-bolt (63) in the hold down bracket (66):
(a) Tighten the stop-bolt (63) with your hand.
(9) Remove the nuts (19) and (42) and the locking plates (18) and (41).
C. Installation of the No. 4 Slat
(1) Lift the slat into position.
(2) At the slat tracks No. 9 and 10:
(a) Clean the recess area of bolts using solvent and air dry.
(b) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the recess area of the bolts (20), (30), (39) and (40).
(c) Install the bush (29) in the slat.
(d) Attach the slat to the slat tracks and the slat tracks links with:
(e) TORQUE the nuts (24), (47), (49), (53) and (54) to between 2.2 and 1.95 m.daN (16.22 and 14.38 lbf.ft )
.
(f) TORQUE the nut (27) to between 1.8 and 1.5 m.daN (13.27 and 11.06 lbf.ft )
.
(g) Make sure that the subsequent components are in contact with the surface of the track rib, washer (26) and the sliding bush (29):
1 Make sure that dimension T is less than 0.08 mm (0.003 in.).
(i) Safety the nuts (24), (27), (47), (49), (53) and (54):
1 Use the new AIPC 27-84-62-05-010 COTTER PINS (25) at slat track No. 9.
2 Use the new AIPC 27-84-62-06-010 COTTER PINS (25) at slat track No. 10.
(j) Do not torque or safety the nuts (31) and (45).
(3) Remove the 98D27804009001 SLATS - SLING (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-000-001) or the 98F27508498000 HOIST-R I,FLAP SLAT.
(4) Adjust the upper trailing-edge of the slat to its maximum height, related to the fixed leading-edge.
(5) To adjust the height, turn the eccentric bushes (22) and (44) at the No. 9 and 10 slat tracks.
Subtask 27-84-66-820-055-A (1) Lift the slat into position.
(2) At the slat tracks No. 9 and 10:
(a) Clean the recess area of bolts using solvent and air dry.
(b) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the recess area of the bolts (20), (30), (39) and (40).
(c) Install the bush (29) in the slat.
(d) Attach the slat to the slat tracks and the slat tracks links with:
- The bolts (20), (30), (39) and (40)
- The washers (23), (26), (46) and (48)
- The nuts (24), (27), (47) and (49).
(e) TORQUE the nuts (24), (47), (49), (53) and (54) to between 2.2 and 1.95 m.daN (16.22 and 14.38 lbf.ft )
. (f) TORQUE the nut (27) to between 1.8 and 1.5 m.daN (13.27 and 11.06 lbf.ft )
. (g) Make sure that the subsequent components are in contact with the surface of the track rib, washer (26) and the sliding bush (29):
- The head of the bolt (30)
- The lower surface of the nut (27)
- The washer (26).
1 Make sure that dimension T is less than 0.08 mm (0.003 in.).
(i) Safety the nuts (24), (27), (47), (49), (53) and (54):
1 Use the new AIPC 27-84-62-05-010 COTTER PINS (25) at slat track No. 9.
2 Use the new AIPC 27-84-62-06-010 COTTER PINS (25) at slat track No. 10.
(j) Do not torque or safety the nuts (31) and (45).
(3) Remove the 98D27804009001 SLATS - SLING (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-000-001) or the 98F27508498000 HOIST-R I,FLAP SLAT.
(4) Adjust the upper trailing-edge of the slat to its maximum height, related to the fixed leading-edge.
(5) To adjust the height, turn the eccentric bushes (22) and (44) at the No. 9 and 10 slat tracks.
D. Adjustment of the Slat
(1) Install the 98D27804020001 BLOCK-SLAT GAPPING at slat track No. 9.
(2) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(3) Retract the slats:
(b) Use the 98D27804011000 BAR-TURNING to slowly retract the slats until the 98D27804020001 BLOCK-SLAT GAPPING touches the bottom roller at the No. 9 slat track.
(4) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(5) Adjust the eccentric bushes (22) and (44) at the No. 9 and 10 slat tracks, to get dimension L. Refer to the table that follows.
(6) Install the locking plates (18) and (41) and the nuts (19) and (42).
(7) TORQUE the nuts (31) and (45) to between 2.2 and 1.95 m.daN (16.22 and 14.38 lbf.ft )
.
(8) Safety the nuts (31) and (45):
(a) Use the new AIPC 27-84-62-05-010 COTTER PINS (25) at slat track No. 9.
(b) Use the new AIPC 27-84-62-06-010 COTTER PINS (25) at slat track No. 10.
(9) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (FIN 6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(10) Extend the slats:
(11) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(12) Apply sealants:
Subtask 27-84-66-820-056-A (1) Install the 98D27804020001 BLOCK-SLAT GAPPING at slat track No. 9.
(2) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(3) Retract the slats:
WARNING:

(a) Use the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to retract the slats until they are at approximately 50.80 mm (2.000 in.) +/- 6.35 mm (0.250 in.) from the 98D27804020001 BLOCK-SLAT GAPPING. (b) Use the 98D27804011000 BAR-TURNING to slowly retract the slats until the 98D27804020001 BLOCK-SLAT GAPPING touches the bottom roller at the No. 9 slat track.
(4) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(5) Adjust the eccentric bushes (22) and (44) at the No. 9 and 10 slat tracks, to get dimension L. Refer to the table that follows.
NOTE: Measure dimension L above the applicable slat track.

(7) TORQUE the nuts (31) and (45) to between 2.2 and 1.95 m.daN (16.22 and 14.38 lbf.ft )
. (8) Safety the nuts (31) and (45):
(a) Use the new AIPC 27-84-62-05-010 COTTER PINS (25) at slat track No. 9.
(b) Use the new AIPC 27-84-62-06-010 COTTER PINS (25) at slat track No. 10.
(9) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (FIN 6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(10) Extend the slats:
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a) Use the WRENCH - PNEUMATIC and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to fully extend the slats. (11) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(12) Apply sealants:
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
(a) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to: - The nuts (24), (27), (31), (47), (49), (53), (54) and (45)
- The heads of the bolts (20), (21), (30), (39), (40), (43), (51) and (52)
- The locking plates (18) and (41).
E. Adjustment of the Stop-Bolt
(1) Examine the hold-down pad-head for wear:
(a) The maximum wear limit is 1.0 mm (0.039 in.) or an overall head thickness of 2.5 mm (0.098 in.):
1 Replace the hold-down pad, if the head is worn more than these specified limits.
(2) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(3) Retract the slats:
(4) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(5) Turn the stop-bolt (63) until it touches the hold-down pad.
(6) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(7) Extend the slats:
(8) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(9) Measure dimension R, under the head of the stop-bolt (63).
(10) Remove the stop-bolt (63).
(11) Subtract dimension S from dimension R:
(12) Install the washers (64) and (65) to get the correct dimension S.
(13) Install and tighten the stop-bolt (63):
14QFB1 Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy - .
(14) Install the slat closing plate (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-69-400-001).
Subtask 27-84-66-820-058-A (1) Examine the hold-down pad-head for wear:

(a) Use the WRENCH - PNEUMATIC and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to fully retract the slats. (4) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(5) Turn the stop-bolt (63) until it touches the hold-down pad.
(6) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(7) Extend the slats:
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a) Use the WRENCH - PNEUMATIC and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to fully extend the slats. (8) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(9) Measure dimension R, under the head of the stop-bolt (63).
(10) Remove the stop-bolt (63).
(11) Subtract dimension S from dimension R:
NOTE: The value of dimension S is between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.).
(a) The difference is the total thickness of the washers (64) and washer (65) that you must install. (12) Install the washers (64) and (65) to get the correct dimension S.
(13) Install and tighten the stop-bolt (63):
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Safety the stop-bolt (63) to the hold-down bracket (66) with (14) Install the slat closing plate (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-69-400-001).
F. Slat-to-Slat Interface Adjustment
(1) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(2) Extend the slats:
(3) Install the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).
(4) At the interface of slats No. 3 and 4 and slats No. 4 and 5:
(a) Remove the blanking-covers from the anti-icing ducts.
(b) Install the flexible tubes (4) and clamps (5).
(c) Install the weather seal (2):
1 Make sure that the end of the weather seal (2) is aligned with the slat lower trailing-edge.
(d) Install the stops (3) and attach them with the screws (1).
(e) Attach the bonding strap (7) to the bonding tag with the bolt (9), washer (8) and nut (6) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
Subtask 27-84-66-860-052-A (1) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(2) Extend the slats:

(4) At the interface of slats No. 3 and 4 and slats No. 4 and 5:

(3) Do the readout and check of the PPU data (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-860-801).
(4) If the PPU data are not in the limits:

(a) Use the WRENCH - PNEUMATIC and 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to move the slat drive shaft until the PPU data shows the specified values. (b) After the correct adjustment: Make sure that the slat transmission system in the fully retracted position.
(5) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
H. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the WRENCH - PNEUMATIC and the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) from the slat drive shaft.
(3) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT, installed outboard of the removed torque shaft FIN 6010CM (6060CM) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
(4) Install the applicable torque shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-45-400-005):
(a) For the left wing, install: [6010CM]
(b) For the right wing, install: [6060CM]
(5) Install the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-400-006):
(a) For the left wing, install access panel 522NB.
(b) For the right wing, install access panel 622NB.
(6) Remove the access platform(s).
Subtask 27-84-66-865-054-A (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
