A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK, YOU MUST PUT ON A SAFETY HARNESS AND ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the slat controls.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Make sure the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is installed on the flap/slat control lever.
   (2) Make sure that the slats are fully extended (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-007).
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position below the applicable slat track.

4. Procedure
Subtask 27-84-69-420-052-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.

B. Installation of the Closing Plates
F Closing Plates - Tolerances ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F Closing Plates - Tolerances ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Install the closing plates (4) for slat tracks 1 thru 4 as follow:
     (a) Put the screws (5) through their related closing plates (4).
     (b) Put the spacers (3) on their related screws (5).
     (c) Put the closing plates (4) in position.
     (d) Tighten the screws (5) to the nut strips (1) with your hand.
     (e) Use the WRENCH - PNEUMATIC and slowly retract the slats to the datum zero position.
     (f) Make sure that dimension Z is between 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.) and 0.50 mm (0.0197 in.).
       1 If dimension Z is less than 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.), do the steps that follow:
         a Remove the nut strips (1) from the screws (5).
         b Install the AIPC 27-84-05-41-100 WASHERS (2), as necessary, on the screws (5).
         c Tighten the screws (5) to the nut strips (1).
NOTE: You can use more than one washer (2) to get the correct dimension Z.
       2 If dimension Z is more than 0.50 mm (0.0197 in.), do the step that follows:
         a Tighten the screws (5) until you get the correct dimension Z.
   (2) Install the closing plates (4) for slat tracks 5 thru 12 as follow:
     (a) Put the screws (5) through their related closing plates (4).
     (b) Put the spacers (3) on their related screws (5).
     (c) Put the closing plate (4) in position.
     (d) Tighten the screws (5) to the nut strips (1) with your hand.
     (e) Use the WRENCH - PNEUMATIC and slowly retract the slats to the datum zero position.
     (f) Make sure that dimension Z is between 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.) and 0.50 mm (0.0197 in.).
       1 If dimension Z is less than 0.25 mm (0.0098 in.), do the steps that follow:

         b Install the washers (2), as necessary, on the screws (5):
         c Tighten the screws (5) to the nut strips (1).
NOTE: You can use more than one washer (2) to get the correct dimension Z.
       2 If dimension Z is more than 0.50 mm (0.0197 in.), do the step that follows:
         a Tighten the screws (5) until you get the correct dimension Z.
   (3) Use the WRENCH - PNEUMATIC and extend the slats to the fully extended position.
   (4) Apply the paint as follows:
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
     (a) Apply a layer of Polyurethane Coating-- Abrasion Resistant Structure (Material No.
04PAD2) that agrees with the external color scheme to the slat track closing plate (4).
Where the closing plate (4) makes an overlap with the leading edge surface, the structure paint must make an overlap of 18 mm (0.71 in.).
     (b) Let the paint dry (approximately 24hrs at room temperature).
NOTE: Let the structure paint dry before you retract the slats.

   (1) Retract the slats manually (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-008).

   (2) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.

D. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the safety barriers.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
