4. Procedure
Subtask 27-34-00-210-050-A
A. Check of the Elevator Servocontrols and Hinge Bearings for General Condition
   (1) Make sure that the liner is in the correct position in the housing of the ball bearings (no migration of the liner).
NOTE: The liner is a coat of teflon between the bearing case and the ball. It lets the ball turn with a minimum of friction (self-lubricating).
  • If the rod-end of the elevator servocontrol has a grease nipple (regreasable roller bearing): there is no liner.
     (a) If you can see the liner, replace the related servocontrol (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-51-000-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-51-400-001) or hinge arm end-fitting (Ref. AMM TASK 55-16-42-000-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 55-16-42-400-001).

B. Check of the Elevators for Excessive Play
NOTE: For monitoring and follow up of the play at the elevator trailing edge, we recommend that the operators record the measured values in their documentation.
NOTE: The check is only given for one surface. Do the same operations for the other surface.
   (1) On the maintenance panel 50VU, release the HYD LEAK MEASUREMENT/B pushbutton switch (the OFF legend comes on).
NOTE: At this time, the inboard servocontrols are pressurized:
  • By the Green hydraulic system for the left elevator.
  • By the Yellow hydraulic system for the right elevator.
NOTE: If you see oscillations when the servocontrol is in active mode, do a check of these oscillations (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-00-200-002).
   (2) On the 98D27303000001 LOAD,APPLICATION TOOL-ELEVATOR, AILERON, RUDDER, connect the 97A27003000007 GAGE,ASSY-PUSH-PULL97A27003000005 GAGE,ASSY - PUSH-PULL (or equivalent).
   (3) Apply a stable load of 30 daN (67.4427 lbf) in the up direction on the trailing edge.
   (4) Keep this load applied and set the dial gage to zero.
   (5) Release the load.
   (6) At the same position, apply a stable load of 30 daN (67.4427 lbf) in the down direction on the trailing edge.
   (7) Keep this load applied and record the value shown on the dial gage, then release the load.
NOTE: The value measured between A and B must be:
  • More than 4 mm (0.1575 in.) (surface bending with 30 daN (67.4427 lbf) load applied), and
  • Less than 7 mm (0.2756 in.) ( 7 mm (0.2756 in.) is the maximum permitted value, it includes the 4 mm (0.1575 in.) of the surface bending).
     (a) If the value measured between A and B is less than 4 mm (0.1575 in.) (without play), do the measurement one more time.
   (8) If the distance is more than 7 mm (0.2756 in.) between the two positions:
     (a) For the left elevator:
1 Replace the Green elevator servocontrol (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-51-000-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-51-400-001).
2 If the distance stays more than 7 mm (0.2756 in.) do a check of the Green elevator servocontrol fittings (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-51-200-001).
3 If the distance stays more than 7 mm (0.2756 in.) do an inspection/check of the elevator attach hinge fittings (Ref. AMM TASK 55-26-00-200-002).

3 If the distance stays more than 7 mm (0.2756 in.) do an inspection/check of the elevator attach hinge fittings (Ref. AMM TASK 55-26-00-200-002).
   (9) On the maintenance panel 50VU :
     (a) Push the HYD LEAK MEASUREMENT/B pushbutton switch (the OFF legend goes off).
     (b) Release the HYD LEAK MEASUREMENT/G pushbutton switch (the OFF legend comes on).
     (c) Release the HYD LEAK MEASUREMENT/Y pushbutton switch (the OFF legend comes on).
