Installation of the Elevator Hinge-Arm End-Fittings

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 55-16-42-860-051-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING is in the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.
   (3) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
   (4) Make sure that the warning notices are in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
   (5) Make sure that the access platforms are in position at zone 334 and/or zone 344.
   (6) Make sure that the THS trailing edge access panels are opened as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-000-001).
   (7) Make sure that the elevator leading edge access panels are removed as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 55-22-11-000-001).

C. Cleaning
   (1) Remove the old sealant from the hinge arm fittings and the hinge arms. Use a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.

D. Cleaning
   (1) Clean the mating surfaces of the hinge arm fittings and the hinge arms and the adjacent areas with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Naphta based and Alcohol - (Material No.08BBC1) .
4. Procedure
Subtask 55-16-42-420-050-B
A. Installation of Hinge-Arm End Fittings 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6
   (1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) on the mating surfaces of the hinge-arm end fitting (9) and the hinge arm (6).
   (2) Put the hinge-arm end fitting (9) in position on the hinge arm (6).
   (3) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) on the bolts (5) and install them.
   (4) Install the washers (8) and the nuts (7).
   (5) TORQUE the nuts (7) to between 0.70 and 0.60 m.daN (61.95 and 53.10 lbf.in ) T.
   (6) Safety the nuts (7) with:
   (7) Connect the hinge-arm end fitting (9) to the applicable attachment fitting (1):
     (a) Apply Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.
03HBD9) on the bushes (3) and install them.
     (b) Apply Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) on the bolt (4) and install it.
     (c) Safety the bolt (4) with:
     (d) Install the nut (11).
       1 TORQUE the nut (11) to between 0.96 and 0.79 m.daN (84.96 and 69.91 lbf.in )

B. Installation of the Hinge Arm End Fitting No. 4
   (1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.
06AAC1) to the mating surfaces of the hinge arm end fitting (23) and the hinge arm (20).
   (2) Put the hinge arm end fitting (23) in position on the hinge arm (20).
   (3) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) on the bolts (19) and install them.
   (4) Install the washers (22) and the nuts (21).
   (5) TORQUE the nuts (21) to between 0.70 and 0.60 m.daN (61.95 and 53.10 lbf.in ) T.
   (6) Safety the nuts (21) with:
   (7) Connect the hinge arm end fitting (23) to the attach fitting (16).
     (a) Apply Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.
03HBD9) to the sleeve (17) and bush (14) and install them.
     (b) Install the bolt (13).
     (c) Safety the bolt (13) with a new AIPC 27-34-07-26-010 COTTER PIN (15).
   (8) Put in position and install the elevator support strut (18) (
Ref. AMM TASK 55-16-48-400-001).
5. Close-up

A. Visual Inspection
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.

B. Close Access
   (1) Close the THS trailing edge access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-400-001).
   (2) Install the elevator leading edge access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-400-001).

C. Remove Ground Equipment
   (1) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).

   (1) Remove the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING from the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.
