Removal of the Elevator Hinge-Arm End-Fittings

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACES. THE COMPONENTS ARE MADE OF CARBONFIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC.

   (1) Put the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING in the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.

   (1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
   (2) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at zone 334 for the left hand elevator hinge arm fittings and/or zone 344 for the right hand elevator hinge arm fittings.

E. Get Access
   (1) Open the THS Trailing Edge Access Panels 334BB ( 344BB), 334DB ( 344DB), 334FB ( 344FB), 334HB ( 344HB), as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-000-001).
   (2) Remove the Elevator Leading Edge Access Panels 335AB ( 345AB), 335BB ( 345BB), 335CB ( 345CB), 335DB ( 345DB), as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 55-22-11-000-001).

A. Removal of Hinge-Arm End Fittings 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6
   (1) Disconnect the hinge-arm end fitting (9) from the applicable attachment fitting (1).
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (12).
     (b) Remove the nut (11).
     (c) Remove and discard the cotter pin (2).
     (d) Remove the bolt (4) and the bushes (3) from the hinge support.
   (2) Remove and discard the cotter pin (10).
   (3) Remove the nuts (7), the washers (8) and the bolts (5).
   (4) Record the position of the bolts (5).
NOTE: The bolts (5) have different lengths and some of them attach a bonding strap.
   (5) Remove the hinge-arm end fitting (9) from the hinge arm (6).

B. Removal of Hinge-Arm End Fitting No. 4
   (1) Disconnect the elevator support strut (18) (Ref. AMM TASK 55-16-48-000-001).
   (2) Disconnect the hinge-arm end fitting (23) from the attachment fitting (16).
     (a) Remove the sleeve (17).
     (b) Remove and discard the cotter pin (15).
     (c) Remove the bolt (13) and the bush (14) from the hinge support.
   (3) Remove and discard the cotter pin (24).
   (4) Remove the nuts (21), the washers (22) and the bolts (19).
   (5) Record the position of the bolts (19).
NOTE: The bolts (19) have different lengths and some of them attach a bonding strap.
   (6) Remove the hinge-arm end fitting (23) from the hinge arm (20).
