WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACES. THE COMPONENTS ARE MADE OF CARBONFIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC.

To remove/install the elevator.
To inspect/remove/install the elevator hinge-arm fitting.

   (1) Install the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING in the CAPT and F/O side sticks.
   (2) Install the 98D27309009003 COLLAR-DEPTH ACTUATOR or 98D27309009004 COLLAR-DEPTH ACTUATOR on the servocontrol elevator.

D. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
   (2) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) in position at zone 334 for the left hand support struts and/or zone 344 for the right hand support struts.

E. Access
   (1) Open/remove the trailing edge panels 334FB, 334EB left hand and/or 344FB, 344EB right hand (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-400-001).
4. Procedure
NOTE: The procedures to remove the elevator support strut (2) from the left and the right side are the same. The procedure that follows gives the removal procedure of the elevator support strut (2) from the left side.

A. Removal of the Elevator Support Struts from the Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer (THS)
   (1) Remove and discard the cotter pin (7).
   (2) Remove and discard the cotter pin (11).
   (3) Remove the nut (10).
   (4) Remove the bolt (8) and the bushes (9).
   (5) Remove the elevator support strut (2) from the THS.

A. Removal of the Elevator Support Struts from the Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer (THS)
   (1) Remove and discard the cotter pin (7).
   (2) If the bolt (8) is safetied with the STA-LOK nut:
     (a) Remove the locking ring (11) and the nut (10) with the SL90-627-3125 TOOL - REMOVAL, WASHERS SL40871 (Ref. AMM TASK 20-22-00-000-001).
   (3) If the bolt (8) is safetied with the castellated nut:
     (a) Remove the nut (13).
   (4) Remove the bolt (8) and the bushes (9).
   (5) Remove the elevator support strut (2) from the THS.

B. Removal of the Elevator Support Struts from the Elevator
   (1) Remove and discard the cotter pin (12).
   (2) If the hinge bolt (14) is safetied with the STA-LOK:
     (a) Remove the locking ring (17) and the nut (16) with the SL90-627-3125 TOOL - REMOVAL, WASHERS SL40871 (Ref. AMM TASK 20-22-00-000-001).
   (3) If the hinge bolt (14) is safetied with the Autobrake System (ABS):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (18).
     (b) Remove the locking cup (24) and the nut (23).
   (4) Remove the washer (19) and the hinge bolt (14).
   (5) Remove the elevator support-strut end (1) from the elevator.
   (6) Remove the bush (15) from the elevator support-strut end (1).

C. Removal of the Elevator Support Strut Bearing
   (1) Remove and discard the cotter pin (20).
   (2) Remove the nut (22) with the 98D55109010000 WRENCH-GROOVE NUT,ELEVATOR SUPPORT STRUT.
   (3) Remove the bearing (21).
